Bet the little boy enjoyed this scene.

Ilovelblue · 29/07/2018 21:51

Maisie, you're alive. A tooth can be replaced!

Exit left Special Forces! Spanner enjoys a well earned holiday in Kilmarnock!

And off they got like heroes.....bit of twirly finger.

Ilovelblue · 29/07/2018 21:53

I am not convinced I can find the next bit entirely credible.

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 29/07/2018 21:53

Uh...oh. OK this bit is definitely a bad dream. IT DIDN'T HAPPEN FOLKS...

Rhubarb01 · 29/07/2018 21:55

I liked the craziness of the ending BUT it's not credible. Why didn't they just run along the river bank away from the place?

The water does look quite deep and fast flowing BUT I reckon it didn't happen.

Ilovelblue · 29/07/2018 21:55

All I can say is that it (sort of) wraps things up in the event this is the final series.

Seriously though, I do hope there is another series as I have pretty much enjoyed this one, despite all its faults.

Ha! they stole that bit with SF dangling from the Heli from "Forces Spéciales" (french film) -- they had a full troop (8 ppl) dangling though :-).

Rhubarb01 · 29/07/2018 21:56

And that's all now folks....for now!

eejittwo · 29/07/2018 21:56

Frankly, my dears, this bit is mince! It wouldn't convince in one of these old Commando comics from the Sixties!
I can't believe SF wouldn't have worked out that there was a cliff between them and the emergency canoes.
Oh, and as a taxpayer, I am deeply distressed about the cavalier way they abandon their weapons in this series.

Ilovelblue · 29/07/2018 21:57

Now, do I watch Ed Balls in Trumpland or go to bed? I have an early get up tomorrow.

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 29/07/2018 21:57

Did that even make sense? I mean...

That's all folks....for now!

MarvellouslyMental · 29/07/2018 21:57

They’re soldiers - Would they not have had ropes and equipment to allow them to climb down safely?

Rhubarb01 · 29/07/2018 21:58

I'm going to watch Poldark on catch up as soon as it's available. I know it doesn't end well thanks to having viewed the series in the 1970's.

Ilovelblue · 29/07/2018 21:59

There's a new series starting this Tuesday. At first when I saw the trailer, I thought one of the characters was our Bones but it seems it's not. He looks rather like him though.

"I can't believe SF wouldn't have worked out that there was a cliff between them and the emergency canoes."
They were sick the day map reading was taught!

"Oh, and as a taxpayer, I am deeply distressed about the cavalier way they abandon their weapons in this series."
:-D
I thought they left their bergens and took the weapons?

Rhubarb01 · 29/07/2018 22:39

Marvellous I'm assuming the main comment you are referring to on that thread on writers room is the one about CJ's coco pops moment being a military offence. The highly experienced gentleman on there, in fact, says all relationships that could affect good order are an offence. He even goes so far to say as it extends beyond normal chain of command and that officers and enlisted soldiers must not have relationships full stop. That makes the CJ and Molly marriage a bit of a sticky issue. As for CJ and Lane - well I knew that was completely unacceptable anyway. CJ better hope that Kingy doesn't call him out on it or he might end up being dishonourably discharged.

MarvellouslyMental · 29/07/2018 23:57

Yes Rhu that was the comment I was referring to - I didn’t realise the rules extended to relationships outwith a chain of command...

But I keep forgetting it’s not real life Grin

And yes, if any of them survived the jump, that would be an interesting story if they perhaps were not as discreet as they may have thought. Did nobody miss Georgie in their quarters???

Rhubarb01 · 30/07/2018 00:42

Sorry, I know it's late but I was just thinking on that other point made in that post on the writers room about the powers that be in the army needing to address sexual harassment. It brings us back to some of our earlier comments about CJ's behaviour, whether it's PTSD related or not, being tantamount to harassment or stalking. If he'd really wanted to prove he meant to be professional then he should have signed Georgie's transfer request as soon as she made it rather than telling her he wouldn't put a foot wrong and then...guess what....doing exactly that. It doesn't matter how many times you call her "Lane" it doesn't change the fact that you're not treating her professionally.

Yes, I know that would be boring to watch but seeing as I'd rather he'd just stuck with Molly (contrary to regs or not) I would have settled for boring.

Rhubarb01 · 30/07/2018 00:50

Oh and Marvellous I got very confused about all the general bedroom arrangements. Two section seem to constantly sleep in a largely empty barrack room and surely as they were on a proper base, Maisie and Georgie wouldn't need to share their quarters. Also, sometimes Georgie was there, sometimes she wasn't. Sometimes they had a divider curtain between them and the men, sometimes they didn't and, as you said, if they were all in the same room surely someone would wonder where Georgie was - I thought the same when she and Elvis enjoyed some coco pops in Afghanistan - sorry I forgot - they weren't sharing coco pops they were foxtrotting!

OK enough thoughts for now. Goodnight!

MarvellouslyMental · 30/07/2018 06:56

Morning. Yep, I’d have settled for boring too if it meant they could stay together. CJ and Molly didn’t need to split up and Elvis didn’t need to die just because the actors couldn’t continue and that storyline didn’t need to happen. I’ve said this before - it’s a drama with a limited shelf life, not a soap - both couples could still have had their HEA. And there were sooo many other ways they could have shown the PTSD including the strain it put on CJ and Molly’s relationship.

Magi84 · 30/07/2018 07:20

You have summed it up perfectly Marvellous. Actors not being able to continue because of other commitments don't need to be killed or abandoned! Soaps need that but not what is supposed to be a dramatic story of normal people in certain circumstances, in this case the army. All this did was make it seem nobody had proper ongoing relationships just because they weren't "on screen". Certainly got a lot of us grinding our teeth about it!!

eejittwo · 30/07/2018 07:26

Marvellously - agreed. The way the storylines were - developed is not the word, maybe corrupted? - was making it more of a soap with sensationalism than drama. I had been expecting more of a move on Georgie from the new SF guy who maybe didn't know all the Elvis history, and that could have been a more interesting angle. Would Maisie still be doling out ill-advised advice? Would the rest of 2 Section have rallied round Georgie to protect her from unwwanted advances? Would it have amounted to the harassment / stalking Rhu mentions above. Strikes me that there has been some very lazy writing in the Bangladesh episodes.

eejittwo · 30/07/2018 07:39

Magi - it is worse than that. Other characters have families and relationships off-screen. Kingy, Monk, Rab's familiy and Maisie's, even Ruby's girlfiriend and best friend get a mention, and there has been no lack of mention of Elvis, who has 'lived on' off-screen, the same way he would have had he not been blown up. We could still have had Bones, as they would not have sent Elvis to rescue Georgie ANOTHER time.
You can see the writing team sitting round, tossing out ideas and them pouncing on the most stupid, sensational ones, 'How about we blow up Bones? How about we have them jumping off a cliff? How about we get Georgie off with CJ?', and saying 'Yeah!' rather than, 'Um, I don't think that would make sense, even given the arbitrariness of active service ...'
