This is a continuation of our Season 2 US-paced thread.

The section in Mumsnet is Legal Matters.

ShamelessEjeculate · 15/07/2018 11:55

I probably should post there. Wrote that post as I was getting on a plane back from seeing them for four weeks.
I have approached so many different services, googled until my thumbs were sore, walked to support services for women while staying with them in the US and I am yet to find anything that would help me get them back.
I can't apply for a visa to live in the USA as I don't fit any of the relevant criteria.

Off to do another google!!

Will Emily and Moira fall in love and raise Nichole as their own?

gilmoregal · 17/07/2018 09:31

Emily has a wife and son we believe managed to get to Canada safely.

I'd find it very irritating if Emily and Moira became a couple very simplistic for two gay characters to be attracted to each other rather than just become friends.

Aridane · 20/07/2018 11:30

Anyone popping into the UK paced thread and enjoying their reactions and (largely inaccurate) specie?

OP posts:
AcrossthePond55 · 20/07/2018 12:49

As a matter of fact, yes. Wink

Might be @Aridane...

😀

BG2015 · 22/07/2018 19:41

Yes I look on their board as the episode is on (sad I know)

I've really missed the program this week. Sad it's over.

BarbraDear · 29/07/2018 18:35

Sorry to bring this thread back but I've just binge watched both seasons and was so frustrated last night at how it ended. It all seemed just a bit too far removed from the Gilead we had seen in season 1.

I couldn't believe June stayed when I watched it but n ow, having thought about it, I think she's realised how much of a network there was within Gilead and that would be the best/easiest way to get to Hannah rather than going to Canada and trying from there. SO I think she's done the right thing now.

Aridane · 29/07/2018 18:51

I thought it was a cop out ending designed to roll over to a third series.

beanaseireann · 29/07/2018 19:45

I agree Ariadne.
They can hear the $$$$ mounting up.

OliviaStabler · 30/07/2018 08:23

Apparently there is a possible 10 season arch that has been planned but I don't think people will keep watching is she stays in that long.

Yutes · 30/07/2018 12:24

I’m frustrated with the ending. And I’m surprised that no bigger character (aside from poor Eden) has been killed yet.

SophieCatScribbles · 31/07/2018 08:03

10 seasons is ridiculous for a dystopian series of such relentless misery. If they don't start turning it into a rebellion, retaliation and renewal of normality, they'll undo all the good work of the first seasons. I give them one more series of June being in Gilead before it'll have to change.

Aridane · 31/07/2018 08:27

I think it is just three seasons

OP posts:
SophieCatScribbles · 31/07/2018 08:42

That'd be a relief Ariadne!

I agree.

Aridane · 12/08/2018 08:08

Oh dear - I think other posters may be right about 10 series, though hopefully it’s just swagger

How many seasons of The Handmaid's Tale will there be?
So, how many seasons of The Handmaid's Tale will there be? According to Hulu CEO Randy Freer, maybe up to 10 seasons.

In an interview with Variety last week, Freer said, that The Handmaid's Tale series' "creative process will determine" if there are more seasons to come.

"And I think that’s one of the benefits for creators in the streaming world — shows can take a natural progression, they can live for as long as they should live or they can end," Freer continued. "I think it’s unfair sometimes in the characterization of broadcast television that we talk about a show’s been canceled after four years or seven years, whatever it is… Look, I hope, as success goes, there’s 10 seasons of The Handmaid's Tale."

In fact, this isn’t the first time executives toyed with the idea of 10 seasons. Showrunner Bruce Miller even told The Hollywood Reporter back in January, "I roughed it out to about 10 seasons when I was first working on it," though he added that they’re "not going beyond" the Margaret Atwood’s novel on which it’s based.

Could The Handmaid's Tale series last for 10 whole seasons?
So, if Freer and Miller had it their way, the series would extend beyond a Handmaid's Tale season 3. But does the Hulu original have enough juice to last for 10 seasons?

Caroline Crampton, co-host of the pop culture podcast SRSLY, told BBC that she was "barely on board with" the second season.

"I think they've lost the reason why people loved the first series and indeed loved the book — it had this very well-constructed narrative arc," she said. "When it got to the natural ending point of that person's story, it stopped." From a "quality point of view," she doesn’t think it makes sense to extend the series.

I’m hoping next series will be about a co-ordinated Resistance effort with June and Serena on the inside communicating information back to Luke, Moira, Emily etc

OliviaStabler · 12/08/2018 09:21

What everyone wants is for June to be free again. If you have series upon series where she is still stuck in there, I think people will turn off. Better to have a short run of a few very successful seasons rather than years of the same until you have to cancel due to lack of viewers.

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 12/08/2018 09:47

Actually I want Gilead to be overthrown. Demanding I know Grin

Aridane · 12/08/2018 09:52

I think Ina the book Giles lasted a long time. Sort of feel it would be a bit trite for it to be a flash in the pan

Definitely! But I think the emotional investment the audience have in June as the central character means they want her out then it is over thrown or for her to be away from being a Handmaid and working for the revolution.

Babysharkdoodoodoo · 28/08/2018 13:23

I just binge watched the 2 seasons. I haven't enjoyed a series so much in a long time I thought it was fantastic. I haven't read ( or heard of) the book and knew nothing about it before I put it on. It really blew me away. The acting is fantastic, the characters of Serena and Aunt Lydia are intriguing. I love the complexity of Serenas character and the relationship between her and June.

One of the standout things for me though was how the treatment of the handmaids changed in the 2nd series in particular Aunt Lydias treatment of the handmaids seem to soften dramatically. Specifically with Janine. She even started calling her by her name "Janine" rather than of... She went from putting her out to be stoned to treating her like a niece. I didn't quite understand that. The treatment of and the behaviour of the handmaids just didn't seem consistent to me.

The scene where June is reunited with Hannah was heart breaking. I cried my eyes out watching that. The little girl who plays that part is excellent, I believed every word and emotion she portrayed.

The finale , I didn't really believe Serena would hand over Nicole so easily. Even if she wanted to get her out I think she would have done it herself. It just wasn't believable to me. And I was so angry when June didn't get in the van! But I also can see why she didn't.

I can't wait till next season! Overall it was excellent
