Calling all feminists: is Stephanie from Lazytown an adequate girl hero?

Or is she just too reliant on the powers of big grownup Sportacus? (And a wee bit too pink and miniskirted?)

There just isn't anyone to rival Dora, is there really ...

I just want to know how she keeps the wig on when she's jigging about so much.

pesme · 24/05/2007 16:31

anything has to be better than the 12 vomit inducing princesses.

Kewcumber · 24/05/2007 16:33

no. Pink hair.

WelshBoris · 24/05/2007 16:33

No, Dora rules.

I think Stephanie fancies Sportacus? Or am I wrong?

Kewcumber · 24/05/2007 16:34

yes she does WB.

My vote goes to Lola (named my cat afetr her)

Tigana · 24/05/2007 16:35

she trots about being 'chirpy' while the man rescues everyone....pffft.

Plus the older lady is a fussy, demanding old biddy and the older gentleman is a pompous twit.

Stereotypes ahoy!!!

Tigana · 24/05/2007 16:35

how old is stephanie supposed to be???
12? 22?

WelshBoris · 24/05/2007 16:35

Lola bosses Charlie around too much.

And she doesn't like tomatoes.

WelshBoris · 24/05/2007 16:36

Is DS into anything yet?

It's easy for boys, they've got Thomas and Bob

Oblomov · 24/05/2007 16:38

I really don't like lazytown or lola. I don't know why. Irrational hatred

SueBaroo · 24/05/2007 16:39

Her relationship with Sportacus is a bit... ambiguous, isn't it?

franch · 24/05/2007 16:42

Yeah, not sure about Lola. The DVD we have has her fussing about having her hair cut - in case it makes her look like a boy, because she wants to be a princess and princesses all have long hair etc etc ... Hmm. Charlie & Marv always seem to get to play with their car track while she & whatsername play Cinderella and stuff ...

Tigana · 24/05/2007 16:43

she is either a scarily precocious 12 year old or an immature 22 year old...she gives me the creeps!

franch · 24/05/2007 16:43

Apparently Stephanie's meant to be 8 but the actress if 14 - ???

OP posts:
franch · 24/05/2007 16:43

is 14, that should be

OP posts:
lionheart · 24/05/2007 16:44

Aesthetically, no.

Tigana · 24/05/2007 16:45

8
8 my arse...!

So the 'ambiguity' is a 14 yr old girls hormones winning out over her 'acting' and the skill of the casting director, when faced with a muscular, tight-trousered bloke....I see

Kewcumber · 24/05/2007 22:09

WB - DS is into Bob the Builder (but only really the theme tune at the moment). He went to boogie Tots with my mum last week and they played it. She sadi he got so excited that she was worried that he was going to have a stroke!

divastrop · 24/05/2007 22:14

i am very uncomfortable with the realtionship between sportacus and stephanie.and she is far to pink and squeaky to be a good role model.

Kewcumber · 24/05/2007 22:16

I just itch to rip her wig off

LoveAngel · 24/05/2007 22:47

Stephanie hangs out with old moustachioued men who wear spandex - dunno about feminism, but I reckon she's bound for a life of faghag-dom.

Lola is waaaay too influenced by Charlie.

Dora is definitely the feminist icon of a generation (she reads maps, FFS! )

SueBaroo · 24/05/2007 23:29

Dora's got a touch of the dominatrix about her, I reckon. She hardly has to do anything and that fox thing runs away going 'oh, man...' That's authority.

WK007 · 24/05/2007 23:36

Dora's on some powerful drugs I've decided. She has violent mood swings (going from hyper singing to being angry at swiper), believes inanimate objects talk to her, gets strangely obsessed over the smallest task, has to repeat directions in an obsessive way - I think she needs psychological help - not a good role model.

You can tell what dd's favourite is at the moment and what I've been forced to sit through hours of!!!

And what's that new Balamory rip-off? The women in that are insane!!!!

francagoestohollywood · 24/05/2007 23:41

Sorry, but the most liberated one has to be Maisy. She lives alone, she's independent, she "can do almost everything"

SueBaroo · 25/05/2007 00:15

Isn't Maisy a mouse, though? or is this a different Maisy?

I think Nina from Nina and the Neurons is a reasonable role model if you're doing the feminist schtick, tbh. She's like, a scientist, people.
