Fucking hell this is powerful stuff tonight. I am howling. All those young kids. Their poor families. My heart goes out to all of them.

gingercat02 · 06/07/2018 22:01

Wow.

Slartybartfast · 06/07/2018 22:01

😔 😢

Rarayouare · 06/07/2018 22:08

Incredibly moving episode

MrsJayy · 06/07/2018 22:15

I am just away to watch it is it really sad ?

catinboots9 · 06/07/2018 22:30

That was so moving

Bravo BBC and Eastenders

iknowimcoming · 06/07/2018 22:37

It was very well done and the reality versus fiction made it less sad (Shaki I mean) iyswim.

I was thinking earlier how it's quietly and slowly got better and better since the bad old days of Sean whatsisface hasn't it? Thank goodness! Well acted by everyone tonight, must have been harrowing for the cast to be involved in those real life stories with those families - well done bbc.

lazymum99 · 06/07/2018 22:39

wow. just watched. That was amazingly well done. incorporating real stories into it really got the message across. Very moving.

MrsJayy · 06/07/2018 22:57

Oh my god that was hard watching I was stunned watching it well acted and those devestated real families I don't think a tv programme has done anything like it.

RJnomore1 · 06/07/2018 23:18

I'm just watching now wtf - this is very affecting but honestly is it what we want from a soap?

Whatdoido2018 · 06/07/2018 23:35

@RJnomore1 Don't be so heartless! ShockHmm

RJnomore1 · 06/07/2018 23:43

I'm honestly not - I had a proper good blub here - I'm just pondering in my head where the line between entertainment and something else.

I feel that was slightly voyeuristic of those peoples grief.

Slartybartfast · 07/07/2018 00:01

I spose they chose to take part, to promote awareness of knife crime

Thymeout · 07/07/2018 00:07

I disagree. I think having real people telling their story of bereavement outweighed any criticism of EE exploiting the problem for entertainment. It was very powerful, especially the final scene when the actors filed past the genuine mourners. Their presence brought home the tragedy of knife crime, stopped it being melodramatic and mawkish. Bonnie Langford deserves a BAFTA.

youarenotkiddingme · 07/07/2018 00:14

Those faces and names of victims and their families.

Heartbreaking 😢

Choccywoccyhooha · 07/07/2018 02:33

I wasn't sure if the interspersing of the real-life stories and the characters getting ready for Shakil's funeral worked, but oh my goodness, the last five minutes were perfectly done. It was very powerful, both a beautiful tribute and a bracing reminder that something needs to urgently be done about knife crime. I don't know where the answers lie though. Having taught in Hackney and Lewisham I am all too familiar with the consequences of teenagers carrying knives and guns, and also very aware that a huge number of young people in London's most deprived areas think that carrying weapons is a normal part of life. A lot of work goes on in schools, community centres, with the police, with young people...but it doesn't seem to be working. The resurfaced tweet from a 16-year old Zack Morris saying he "always carries a blade," shows just how normalised it is in some areas, he was happy to put it on Twitter, whether for bravado or another reason, he wanted people to think he carried a knife.

He was, however, superb tonight and throughout the storyline, as was Bonnie Langford.

The80sweregreat · 07/07/2018 03:08

It was brilliantly done. Those poor families. How would you cope with such tragedy?
Agree that Bonnie Langford deserves a BAFTA.

youarenotkiddingme · 07/07/2018 08:19

I think Zack Morris who plays Keegan should win an award for that as well.

MrsJayy · 07/07/2018 08:30

Zack Morris is a cracking actor he just gets better and better I was reading Marvin Hulme ex JLS sponsored zack through drama school

creamcheeseandlox · 07/07/2018 08:37

Watched this on the train and could hardly contain myself. Such amazing acting and a great layout to the show. I saw Ben kinsellas pic held by his dad...I believe Brooke his sister who used to be in EE helped with this episode as she is now part of a charity to do with knife crime. Sad

MrsJayy · 07/07/2018 08:41

Yes Brooke Kinsella was involved in the storyline I think she runs the charity.

drwitch · 07/07/2018 10:08

This was just amazing, really well written and powerful

The80sweregreat · 07/07/2018 11:36

Keegan is a good little actor.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 07/07/2018 12:29

I've only just watched last nights episode.
Oh my word I was crying. Those poor parents.

When will kids stop stabbing each other ? Sad

spidey66 · 07/07/2018 13:27

Very well done, and extremely moving. I work in Hackney and live in Haringey, two boroughs badly affected by knife crime, gangs etc . Sometimes I appreciate that I don't have kids (not through choice ) as I don't know if I could go through that level of stress.
