I'm starting a thread for those of us watching Season 2 and who want to discuss ahead of its screening in the UK.

So far I've watched the first 3 episodes.

God the 1st episode was grim.

I'm so intrigued as to where the story will go next!

How on earth can she escape now with a noticeable bump. Can't wait for tomorrow's episode.

Some of my work colleagues started watching on Sunday night so I have to be careful what I say!

Aridane · 22/05/2018 08:34

Oh, sorry - I read somewhere that it was a suicide attempt Blush

Glad she didn’t miscarry - that would be a death sentence

MynameisJune · 22/05/2018 08:44

@ariadne I thought it was a suicide attempt as well, one minute she was sat slumped on the windowsill and the next she is on the floor in the same clothes outside. I think they’ve left it open and ambiguous as to what happened.

andadietcoke · 23/05/2018 17:10

Oh oh oh. End bit of episode 6!!!!!

QuackPorridgeBacon · 23/05/2018 17:14

andadietcoke Now I’m going to struggle to wait until tomorrow night to watch it.

Dancingmonkey87 · 23/05/2018 17:32

I’m so glad I found this thread! I couldn’t wait so I have caught up on the episodes as my dh downloaded them. I wouldn’t be surprised if she was carrying twins but miscarried one hence the amount of blood. I’ve know this happen and the person on went on to have a healthy baby. Does the next episode air tonight or tomorrow inthe USA? For some reason I thought it was yesterday?

QuackPorridgeBacon · 23/05/2018 17:47

Dancingmonkey87 I think it’s already aired. It’s on tomorrow on Rte. I thought twins two. I’m a suspected twin. My mum had a lot of bleeding while pregnant with me, and later on had a confirmed miscarriage and said the bleeding was the same. She went and got checked and I was still in there so it was deemed all was ok. Not to be all woo or anything but I used to say to my mum a lot that I was lonely and wished I had a twin and always felt like I should of had, I was young when I said it and have carried the same feeling on. It wasn’t til I was much older that she told me I was possibly a twin but she lost it.

QuackPorridgeBacon · 23/05/2018 17:48

Too* not two. Although not a bad mistype lol

Aridane · 23/05/2018 18:00

BG2015 · 23/05/2018 19:21

Just watched episode 6!

Wow! Just wow! And a bloody brilliant song to finish. My DP nearly started jumping up and down as it's one of his favourite punk bands!

Will wait for you all to catch up!

Dancingmonkey87 · 23/05/2018 19:55

Omg omg the ending of episode 6. I was beginning to think things were a loss cause and then that!

BG2015 · 23/05/2018 20:33

It was a quite sedate episode in terms of torture and fear but lots of very subtle bits throughout, mind games, power, fear, loss, disappointment, anger, hope and then.....the end!!!

Aridane · 23/05/2018 20:36

Bloody hell - the ending.

Did the other handmaids know what was going down in advance or they twigged only when they saw her entering the hall with the detonator.

Interesting Serena flashbacks. And her trying to extend some humanity to June. But a but like giving treats to a pet.

I thought, last episode, Nick’s bride would accuse him of being a gender traitor.

OP posts:
Dancingmonkey87 · 23/05/2018 20:56

There was glimpses of humanity in Serena, it’s almost as she wants June to like her like inviting her friends (using the term friends instead of handmaidens) for lunch, she even tried to engage inconversation however she was very much the outsider but interesting how there worlds have joined together in such a way when previously there were strangers in a cafe. I think she is extremely isolated and struggling with the reality of the world she created. She doesn’t seem to have friendship with the wives either.

Serena immediately pulled back the moment she felt the pang of despair of June’s dd being taken away yet she is on the other side so desperately wanting this baby.

Poor Nick he had to do his duty so to speak otherwise his wife would have easily accused him of being a gender traitor and it’s not like they have fair trials either.

The commander was a creepy as ever especially trying to take advantage of June.

Was is OFFRED2 who had the bomb? I got the impression it was an isolated incident especially as the other handmaidens were shocked not to meantion she showed them her intentions in order for them to run. Plus if everyone knew they could have put a stop to their plans. Utilmately she had nothing to lose they already took her tongue. I thought everything was lost until that scene. I hope to see more uprising from the handmaidens.

Dancingmonkey87 · 23/05/2018 21:02

OFGlEN2 even

susurration · 23/05/2018 21:09

Gosh the way in which Nick and Eden have to have sex is a bit weird. Presumably because Lust is a sin, even though Serena said it wasn't between husband and wife. The strange bed sheet just goes to show that the powers that be would rather it was an in and out job so to speak. Horrible.

And the ending. Uh OHHHHH. Does that mean Fred is Dead?! and will Nick lose his promotion now?

BG2015 · 23/05/2018 21:29

I cannot wait for next weeks episode now!

SayNoToCarrots · 23/05/2018 21:32

Wow the bedsheet. I'm sure I read about sheets like that in History or RE, I can't remember the group that use(d) them. Interesting though how Nick got it up so fast despite his disgust and how his virginity bride didn't seem too put out by him going in dry . . .

SayNoToCarrots · 23/05/2018 21:33

Virgin bride, obviously, not virginity bride.

OohMavis · 23/05/2018 22:10

Oh shit!

OohMavis · 23/05/2018 22:11

What an end credits track as well! Perfect.

Snoopyokay · 23/05/2018 23:08

Just seen this weeks ep! What an ending! I hope that Nick will still get re-assigned. Just watched the preview for next weeks but it doesn't give much away really!

AcrossthePond55 · 24/05/2018 04:37

Holy crap! The ending! So bizarre to see an act of terrorism (suicide bomber) from the ‘other side of the coin’. Where one is on the ‘side’ of the bomber, as it were. A brilliant bit of writing.

Serena Joy is a complicated and conflicted woman. Flashes of humanity then coldness.

Can’t wait until next episode to see who survived.

Praisebe · 24/05/2018 07:30

I knew Alma would fight back! Guess she and mayday planned that attack together and they have someone else on the inside helping them although im surprised no one shot her before she had a chance to detonate considering how many armed officers there were in that room

TheBadgersMadeMeDoIt · 24/05/2018 11:28

I wondered how she managed to get so far without being shot, but Waterford said something like "not yet, someone tell her to wait" so clearly the handmaids were supposed to come into the chamber at some point in the presentation. The guards would have been told this so they probably didn't realise at first that she wasn't supposed to be there. Until she started to run. It would take a second or two to process that that doesn't seem right...and a second or two to decide whether shooting a handmaid because "something doesn't seem right" is worth the punishment if they get it wrong...by which time she's pressed the button.
