Anyone watching? Might be worth a laugh!

Harry! WTF my phone!!

The80sweregreat · 21/04/2018 21:54

Craig David. He was there doing his last hit from 1995

OP posts:
littlepill · 21/04/2018 21:56

He might do that bo selecta song!

The80sweregreat · 21/04/2018 21:58

Craig David is a nice man - it’s when he starts ‘singing ’ the problems start! He has aged well though

The80sweregreat · 21/04/2018 21:59

Probably later than 1995! I would be rubbish on pop master

In boxing news Amir Khan won in 40 seconds. Ridiculous !

eddiemairswife · 22/04/2018 12:40

To cap it all the poor old soul had to get up this morning, put her hat and coat on and press a button to start the London Marathon.

MartagonLilies · 22/04/2018 13:25

Just put it on in the background now. I didn't get to catch up last night after all, DS1 and DH were engrossed in their series.

MartagonLilies · 22/04/2018 14:04

Who organised this? Confused

The80sweregreat · 22/04/2018 14:27

That button pressing was a bit of a non event!

Is it very sad that I've just put it on iPlayer and am reading the thread in its chronological order alongside the -cough- entertainment as it unfolds?!

That's such a slow version of It's Not Unusual. It's Not Unusual for Geriatrics Grin

Fourdaystogo · 22/04/2018 20:30

Looking forward to this being re-enacted on The Crown Series xxx.....

Grin
littlepill · 22/04/2018 20:35

I hope they speed it up to it’s normal level otherwise we will die of boredom Grin

VanillaSugar · 22/04/2018 23:49

OK, I’m watching this on catch up and have just got to the Ed Balls bit. Am I wrong in thinking that his appearance is in bad taste . Ed Balls was advisor to Gordon Brown )before becoming an MP) and Tony & Gordon infamously made The Queen give up the Royal Yacht Britannia - her decommissioning was the only time the Queen has cried in public.

I bet she was thinking “yes, bugger off and clean one’s windows you toe rag”

nancy75 · 22/04/2018 23:59

I wish I’d found this thread while the show was on! I dodged a dreadful night out - my Dd LOVES Shawn Mendes and I very nearly bought tickets for this - just as I was about to pay I noticed you had to be age 14+ to go - thank Christ DD is only 12! It was bad enough on the telly, imagine if you had to sit through it in real life ( although we did cry laughing at the sting/shaggy mashup. Who in gods name thought that was a good ideaGrin)

The80sweregreat · 23/04/2018 06:34

Shaggy/ sting appeared on the one show the other week to plug their new single. I thought then that it was strange. The song isn’t that bad but it’s just two people you would never put together in a month of Sunday’s normally.

I wasn't aware of Anne Marie before, but I love the way many of today's female popstars look strong and healthy rather than unnaturally thin like they have done for several decades previously. I'm sure it still takes a lot of work to look that way but much healthier for teenage girls to emulate.

littlepill · 23/04/2018 09:09

Agree with all your comments: VanillaSugar I thought the same about Ed Balls - that it seemed in poor taste. Also they all looked so awkward!

The Shaggy-Sting thing was horrible! ("I like to call them Staggy" - Zoe Ball. Cringe!). Mr Boombastic and his dodgy lyrics trying to entice a wooden audience to move around a bit and smugfaced Sting playing his old tracks on his geetah (although he has aged well). Can't say the same for Kylie - wow, her face! What a shame. Luckily her bacofoil dress detracted from the squeaky wailing. Then a couple of twinkly-eyed Sinatra wannabees, gliding slipping across the stage...

Might have to watch it again Grin

The bits about the 'normal kids' dissing Queenie were weird and emphasised the outdated nature of the monarchy. The kids were nonplussed and the 'stars' sycophantic. Nobody wanted to be there!

Agree about Anne Marie, although that song and her actions were dire Grin

Am I getting more picky about what I watch and listen to? The whole thing sounded like it needed speeding up by several hundred bpm.

The80sweregreat · 23/04/2018 09:27

Frank Skinner looked as if he was enjoying his bit - the others not so much. it was awkward in parts and it was funny when Prince Harry said ' your so hard to buy a present for' and the camera panned back to the queen looking less than amused!
Anyway, sounds as if the new baby is on its way , so this shambles of a night will be forgotten about - till next year. I dread to think what they will do if she makes it to her 100th birthday.

OP posts:
littlepill · 23/04/2018 09:45

Frank Skinner, yes! Ed Balls admitting he couldn't play was excruciating, and Harry Hill clowning around as usual got annoying.

Yes, agree, the panned cameras were so embarrassing! Hardly any emotion from Her Maj and Harry looked so anxious. Meg kept pinning back that annoying strand of hair and the Beagenie looked wide eyed, as usual.

Everyone sounded so flat!

Ha, yes, all over for one year six months Is it just me or do these weird jamborees occur with more frequency these days?

The80sweregreat · 23/04/2018 09:58

There were a few all at once a few years back - 2011 for William's wedding, then 2012 for the coronation anniversary with the boats in the pouring rain and a concert, then something else.. ( forget) the best bit of the concert at one of these was Madness singing ' our house' with Buckingham palace made look like ' normal ' houses ( a sort of film played on it somehow) and grace Jones with a hulu-hoop - those were the days eh? Rolf harris was there singing ' two little boys' and got cut off!! ha ha. ( not long after that he ended up in prison..) maybe they should just let it go really/

OP posts:
littlepill · 23/04/2018 10:04

OMG you have a great memory for these things! There were quite a few around the Jubilee, I think...when was the last one? It doesn't seem that long ago... ha ha Madness 'Our House'! Grin I guess this one had the constraint of the Commonwealth theme, too.

The Queen was pearl-clutching after that first clip, did anyone notice? Think she was wearing the same strand of pearls as she was in the clip. It was rather sweet! Can't imagine many 21 year olds being so eloquent....

The80sweregreat · 23/04/2018 10:11

There have been a lot in the last few years - i felt so sorry for those opera singers in the rain for the 60th anniversary thing (?) singing away whilst they resembled drowning rats and on the Thames too, so no escape from the weather.
I am not really a 'royalist' but i do enjoy watching these awkward mash ups - mostly because its so cringe worthy and raises a laugh on here.

OP posts:
The80sweregreat · 23/04/2018 10:33

There should be a ' people's party' i think to say thanks for paying our taxes to them and for their properties all these years.
i guess they would say ' have a street party ' or something, but you have to pay for it and i doubt Shaggy and sting would want to come over to Essex for a pie and a pint!

OP posts:
VanillaSugar · 23/04/2018 10:40

I’m going to have to rewind to the Shaggy bit. I FFwarded first time as it looked so dull. Meghan was brilliant though and the only one who looked remotely interested in the whole thing. She’ll learn, bless her Grin
