I'm watching

MrsJoshDun · 26/03/2018 21:44

I’m watching. Loved the last series of this and this one also seems a good, balanced view of the issues faced.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/03/2018 22:03

Very quick shot of my back

God how fucking depressing. We're like a third world country now.

So pleased Kielan was ok though.

Cowsopinion · 26/03/2018 22:19

I can't believe how packed it is.

It's a sad state of affairs. Feel so sorry for the staff. Fuck being under that much pressure.

OP I'm wondering which you are. Grin

Godotsarrived · 26/03/2018 22:21

So pleased the little lads operation went well. We should be ashamed as a nation. What we have watched happen to the NHS.

OliviaBonas · 26/03/2018 22:23

Interesting programme

TheFairyCaravan · 26/03/2018 22:29

I watched it. I’ve been operated on by Mr Grevitt, he’s an amazing surgeon.

I don’t see how anyone can watch it and say “ah yes the NHS has enough money it’s just going to the wrong places.”

Toddlerteaplease · 26/03/2018 23:15

Yes he's a lovely man. I got filmed with him delivering a box of chocolates to another scoliosis patient, as it was the first thing he'd asked for on waking up. Fortunately I don't think they'll use it now!!

I was literally on it for a split second!!

It's horrifying. Everyone in the UK should be MADE to watch this series to see what's happening to the NHS.

MissEliza · 27/03/2018 14:07

I was in tears for Keilan. It must be amazing to be able to change someone's life like that. People like Mr Grevitt are heroes not bloody sportsmen.

bostonkremekrazy · 27/03/2018 14:42

227 people in beds with NO medical need.....that is what is shocking.

I used to work on an elderly care ward. Patients would lay in beds for months while their families would 'look at care homes'.

Families know the longer it takes to find a care home, the longer before the fees start. Without fail all staff felt that if there was no medical/nursing need for care, then a patient should be moved to the first care home bed available locally - from there families can 'look at care homes' and move their loved one wherever they want.

227 beds taken up with NO medical need....shocking!!!!

Finding a good care home is a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Care homes don't want residents who need much care.
My dad was shifted through 4 different homes. The first 3 neglected his basic needs. He was self funding, which was the only reason we had any choice or control at all.
We desperately wanted him out of hospital, but it was so hard to find anywhere for him to go.

MissEliza · 27/03/2018 18:43

My friend's dgm spent about three months in hospital over the winter period. It had been decided she needed to go into a home so they waited for a while to find the right one. It took about a month to get it sorted. Fair enough. Then a few days were wasted waiting for an ambulance to transport her. One afternoon I met my friend on the school run. The hospital had just called and asked if she could drive her dgm to the home rather than spend another unnecessary night in hospital. My friend said no, she was too busy. So the lady spent another night in the hospital.
I know how hard it is to handle relatives with dementia but if the hospital felt it was safe to transport the lady in a private car, why wouldn't you do something to help out? This was when there was loads of news about hospitals being full and unable to cope.

Just watching episode 2 now and it's focusing a lot on one of the consultants who is leaving to go back to his wife in America and they can't find anyone to replace him. What a loss to the NHS 😩 He seems outstanding.

TuftedLadyGrotto · 04/04/2018 21:03

We need better care for elderly people and more funding into social care. Because that seems to be the main blockage on beds.

Watching episode 2 right now.

GnotherGnu · 05/04/2018 08:24

In ep. 2, I wondered about the lady who had surgery on a tumour in her throat but subsequently turned out to have cancer spreading to her pancreas. Given her previous history of kidney cancer, she'd have to wonder why they didn't do the scans as soon as the throat problem presented itself rather than waiting till well after the operation, and whether that would have made a difference to the eventual prognosis.

MiniCooperLover · 05/04/2018 18:02

GnotherGnu, I have to admit I did wonder at that too, as it took 3-4 months before she could have her throat surgery it's a shame they didn't get her in previously for scans. Her consultant seemed on the ball so I am surprised, maybe the wait for a full scan was the same as the wait for the op. Hard to know I guess. Sad though.

I worry for the future of the NHS. ITs on its knees and then some. That amazing consultant leaving for the USA where he won't have as many pressures and he'll earn 2-3 times what he does here when the NHS desperately needs him to stay is such a sad state of affairs. How can it/will it ever get better? Sad
