expatinscotland · 03/05/2007 21:12

Ian will die and the land will go to his nieces and nephews.

Molly Dineen is a fantastic documentary maker.
Gentle unobtrusive style.

expatinscotland · 03/05/2007 21:17

He is a quick and a gentle hand.

Wonder who will replace him when he dies . . .

You make it impossible for small farmers to produce and live, in 50 years when it's all gone tits up you'll have people starving for lack of not knowing how to feed themselves you mark my words.

That poor cow - only worth £2 to kill and a packet of fudge. What a sad state of affairs.

expatinscotland · 03/05/2007 21:19

But at least the man was gentle and quick.

£2.

HOpe he's charging that hunter fella a fcking packet for the lease of his land.

I've been saying it for years - this will come home to roost in a very, very bad way for our children and grandchildren.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 03/05/2007 21:21

Dairy farms are the worst hit, as supermarkets drive down the price of their milk more and more.

OP posts:
MissTFied · 03/05/2007 21:26

Life is so cheap

Whoooosh · 03/05/2007 21:26

A better end from those who have to endure the slaughterhouse.

As for the cat that woman had eating robins etc-if dhe fed the damn thing it may be less inclined to kill local wildlife!

expatinscotland · 03/05/2007 21:28

Well, you probably won't agree, but I think pet cats should be indoors only.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 03/05/2007 21:30

His brother pretty much summed it up.

The land as a playground for the rich.

OP posts:
Whoooosh · 03/05/2007 21:30

I keep mine good and fat so they can't even catch a cold!

Only thing they bring in now (and I usually rexcue them) are fledglings which have fallen from the nest.

Would break my heart if they brought in a robin.

Whizzz · 03/05/2007 21:31

I think its very sad that calves are worthless....something not right there

Whoooosh · 03/05/2007 21:32

sorry, but that bloke from the next door hunt is a twat-showed no compassion for the calf and didn't do the deed as well as the previous guy.

MissTFied · 03/05/2007 21:34

Oh it's awful. I really hate to see these animals being killed.

Whoooosh · 03/05/2007 21:34

And am ABSOLUTELY convinced one of those calves was not dispatched correctly and was not dead when thrown in the truck.

Reflex my arse

expatinscotland · 03/05/2007 21:34

If you've ever hung round them, cows are actually really peaceful animals for the most part.

OP posts:
Whoooosh · 03/05/2007 21:35

They are indeed Expat-lovely on the whole.

expatinscotland · 03/05/2007 21:36

He'll sell up soon. He'll have no choice.

Just like nearly everyone else.

But supermarkets are cheap and convenient.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 03/05/2007 21:37

And the land will be more housing that only the rich can buy to sit empty most of the year.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 03/05/2007 21:40

Looks like the hunt guy just as fucked as all the rest of them.

House is tied accommodation.

He doesn't own FA.

OP posts:
Heathcliffscathy · 03/05/2007 21:46

we are so fucked.

every every every time we buy cheap food we are guilty of so much.

great documentary this.

expatinscotland · 03/05/2007 21:50

'every every every time we buy cheap food we are guilty of so much.'

Yep.

And when you rely on imported food to feed your country, you have enslaved your own people.

One, because you get rid of those who know how to produce the food in your own country

Two, because you are then reliant on someone else for your sustenance.

Three, because you have to burn fossil fuel, a finite resource, to get your food.

And again, house prices - and I'm NOT just talking mortgages here, because high house prices also mean high rents - when they're sky high and you have to spend more of your income on shelter, then it becomes harder for you to buy quality food.

And society's expectations, too. Consumerist.

But hey, you reap what you sow.

Is there anything we can do about this?
