Celeb Big Bro Thread 2 - Courtney's audition for the Bucks Fizz tribute act wasn't quite what they were looking for...

Yes, I know it is a shock to discover CBB celebrities famous for something other than being on other reality shows, but there are some in the house this year! It is a miracle!

Still no shopping lists, decent long-lasting tasks and lack of BB interference but we can't have everything can we?

PWBs - pull up a chair (from your favourite Oak furniture dealer), grab your snacks and get stuck in!

I don't think pp should view AW as some harmless eccentric old lady, her views did real harm when she was an MP!

LaconicIcon · 07/01/2018 22:06

Tonight I'm liking Andrew, but he's a local lad and we're a likeable bunch and Shane/Courtney, he's beautiful as a man and woman.

BeyondWW · 07/01/2018 22:07

Yep, from stonewall
I promise you, many people over an age to have had it used derogatorily against them aren’t happy with it. Stonewall also include the world and its mum (literally, my mum is included) in their trans definition

nicenewdusters · 07/01/2018 22:08

Yep, haven't seen one redeeming feature for Dapper yet. He's a complete stereotype himself - a "geezer," banging on about birds, walking around with his beer. Yuck, just yuck.

HellToupee · 07/01/2018 22:08

AW has never held back from giving her views and was still elected as an MP. She is entitled to those views.

I do agree she is not a harmless old lady and don’t agree with her views at all!!! She’s still entitled to them though.

QueenLaBeefah · 07/01/2018 22:09

I personally wouldn't use the term "queer" reclaimed or not. I was brought up not to use it (and my mum is bloody terrifying 😂)

AnneEyhtMeyer · 07/01/2018 22:11

Her opinions are considered though, not spur of the moment or jumping on a bandwagon. I don't agree with a lot of things in life but I don't insist people change their minds to agree with me. This is why we can't have discussions any more, it always turns into bunfights, and that's what made the Shane & Ann conversation refreshing - agreeing to disagree.

Exactly that Anne!!

TheweewitchRoz · 07/01/2018 22:14

Agree Anne.

Missrabbitneedsabreak · 07/01/2018 22:16

I think it's a bit of an OTT reaction to the pain thing. The men didn't object and were taking it in a very lighthearted way too. If they were objecting in any way then that would be different. If I was in there I'd have selected the men who have children for that task. I wish more men could experience it and understand what it's like! I'm not keen on Jess but don't think it was fair to make her feel small for laughing. I'd be laughing too! The men were making a joke out of it, so it was quite humorous. If they were really not dealing with it and found it traumatic then that would be different

Backtoblack1 · 07/01/2018 22:18

Really enjoying the discussions in CBB! AW is interesting - she won’t bend at all but I agree that her opinions are well-argued and considered. Not sure why IW is being so mean about Maggie? Did I miss something there?

HellToupee · 07/01/2018 22:20

Nah, just IW being paranoid

DameDoom · 07/01/2018 22:22

A great discussion between Shane and Ann. A lot can be learnt by engaging in debate rather than shutting it down. No one has to agree but we can all engage.

Backtoblack1 · 07/01/2018 22:25

Shane/Courtney is fabulous. So sharp - fantastic discussion with Anne and he didn’t throw a hissy fit. He’s just so endearing.

Chipstick10 · 07/01/2018 22:25

IW knows Fears maggie

GoblinDinosaur · 07/01/2018 22:26

I’ve been a huge fan of Courtney for a long time and I’m so proud of how she’s representing herself and the lgbt community. She’s certainly the best ru girl for this job

BelligerentGardenPixies · 07/01/2018 22:26

I find it a little infantilizing to frame the labour task as some sort of torture fest.

BB is renowned for deliberately making people physically, mentally and emotionally uncomfortable. The contestants knowingly opt in (and in the case of the celebrities, get paid for) the experience. In the case of the labour simulator, they could opt out at any moment, it was a relatively short time and they were enduring it for self gain (immunity). They are adult men who can choose if there discomfort is or isn't used for entertainment purposes(which Dapper took full advantage of) and I thought they all handled it with good grace. I was less keen on the emotional game but the same principles still apply and actually Shane spun it well in his favour.

All that said, although I disagree with Ann, I found her reaction endearing. She's extremely conservative in her views, many of which I disagree with but she is not a nasty person and she believes her opinions are for the good even if she's wrong. Her and Andrew were well sweet.

Weebo · 07/01/2018 22:27

I don't think I have ever liked a CBB housemate quite as much as I like Shane.

Not this early anyway.

Interesting how India couldn't quite keep up with Shane and Ann in the end so just turned away pathetically feigning shock.

I don't think she's used to a discussion like that where she doesn't get to shout people down.

DumbledoresArmy · 07/01/2018 22:29

India just didn't have the intellect to keep up.

PositivelyPERF · 07/01/2018 22:29

Nope. I don't care if young people say they identify as queer, as is their right. As a 48yr old woman who grew up believing it to be a horrible insult, I just can't use it. TBH I think I would be viewed as homophobic by young people if I used it.

BelligerentGardenPixies · 07/01/2018 22:29

Very good point Weebo.

TathitiPete · 07/01/2018 22:32

@beyondww

May I ask why? What would be the difference between a civil partnership and marriage?

GoblinDinosaur · 07/01/2018 22:33

PositivelyPERF

That’s fine though, you don’t have to use it, I personally do because I consider myself a queer woman. If you were to refer to me as such, I wouldn’t be offended, but if you feel uncomfortable and have negative associations with it that’s ok :) you’re being respectful and that’s all anyone can ask!

LaconicIcon · 07/01/2018 22:35

I think queer is OK within the gay community but is remembered as an insult by those outside it, and still used as an insult by some: much like the N word within the black community and outside.

BeyondWW · 07/01/2018 22:37

Marriage (as it is now) comes from the same religious institution that Ann is defending. Obviously an equivalent exists historically pre Christianity, but not in the same way. Even with god taken out now, the history makes me uncomfortable. But needs must :)
