Don't get me started about Ezzo parenting or Pearl. They make any offering from a certain UK author who we are not allowed to mention on mumsnet look tame. A lot of christians are totally opposed to Ezzo and his routines.

I think that children in the programme were happy and would not benefit being put in care. I can't make up my mind how much the state should interfere with the raising of children. I don't agree with those families on discipline, but childcare is not an exact science.

Should over weight children be taken into care. What about those extended breastfeeders who co sleep.. tut... tut.. (ie. I like I did...)

Smacking is out of fashion, but many adults were disciplined in a very similar fashion. I don't think that children are better behaved in schools than thirty years ago. Very few adults are violent.

I was shocked that they were making paddles to punish horrific! Oh look what come through the post darling, who shall we try it out on first!!!
maybe if the adults were hit with it again they might remember how painful it is and not use so readily!
I can't believe anyone would want to hit a child with that!
Thats love is it?
yes tell them what they did was wrong and why!
Yes make them apologize!
not beat them with a stick
If they think it works why do they need to use it again!

WTFFF

switching a baby for going on a carpet

If I was a Christian I would complain about this programme giving an unbalanced view.

the bible says that women should al be SAHM's!!!

When I heard this I vowed to go out and get a f job!

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG

THEY WERE ALL FREAKS!!!

Strange, weird, odd, not right people IMO.

But I would like to know why they agreed to make a television programme when they didnt really watch tv themselves and didnt like the children watching it.

Tis evil in the eyes after all.

Nbg · 24/04/2007 08:07

Maxsuncle, I thought that too.

cathcart · 24/04/2007 08:16

If they touched an adult with one of those paddles thety could be done for assualt!
I just don't get it, and I don't understand how they are allowed to get away with it. I can't believe they can do that to their children.
If it works soooo well then why are they still doing it to that boy who was about 12?
[anger]

cathcart · 24/04/2007 08:18

i felt sick listening to what was going on in that room! hitting and crying!!!

Nbg · 24/04/2007 08:19

Doesnt work that well does it!

I think that generally people who do this kind of programme are very naive, tbh. It's never going to come across well. Agree with you Frances5, the Ezzo's and the Pearl's ways are something else! I'm all for routine and obedience, but they are just controlling for the sake of control.
There's no balance.

Some friends of mine with 8 children and a keeper-at-home philosophy very nearly did wife-swap, but they decided against it because it doesn't matter how well-rounded they actually are, it's really difficult to escape from the editing process.

I do have an American friend who is doing a UK documentary about SAHM as a vocation, but I don't know when it's on, she only did the filming last month.

I thought though that the 2 grown up British children cam across very well. They seemed independent thinkers, both from the youth culture and their own parents. It didn't feel like they were just bringing out their parents ideas but had thought things out for themselves. I would have been proud of them if they were my children.

SueBaroo · 24/04/2007 10:36

Just checked, it's on again at 11 on friday, which is when I'll be watching.

SueBaroo · 24/04/2007 11:00

Just discovered that the documentary my friend is in is on Channel 5 on May 7th, also part of the Hidden Lives series. It's mostly about the 'Surrendered wife' philosophy, which is a bit misleading, as that isn't what she subscribes to, but there we are.
