Slightly off at a tangent, but I discovered the first series was available on YouTube and I binge watched it while I was ill this week! It's really interesting to see what's changed (although I can definitely confirm it has always been task, boardroom and fire someone in the same episode, not split between two episodes as a pp suggested). I'm not going to pretend there weren't some howlers, but in general the candidates in series 1 seemed more competent and in control. They seemed to have more time for tasks so they didn't have to make as many rushed decisions. E.g. on the design task, they were able to see a focus group then design their product, whereas now they're trying to do both things at the same time.
The task filming was a lot less frantic. More time in the episode was devoted to it and they had more sections where a candidate calmly commented on what happened.
Most interesting though, was that they weren't expected to be experts on random stuff! They were able to take advice from experts like the toy designers or ad agencies. There was a task where they had to make food to sell at a farmers' market and it showed one team negotiating a wage for the chef. So they did the more general business tasks like selling, marketing, ordering stock, budgeting etc and outsourced the specialist work like cooking. Much more realistic. So if this doggy task had taken place in the early series, I suspect they would have kept on the regular spa and dog training employees and been responsible for things like promoting, pricing, negotiating, organising employees etc. It's ridiculous for them to take on the specialist work with no experience.
