Anyone watching?

It's not that bad and you can't expect to know who everyone is from the get go. I'm reserving judgement until I've seen the full episode.

Discotits · 12/11/2017 21:37

The guy who plays Tibby is a good actor I think. He’s in The End of the Fucking World on C4.

IrenetheQuaint · 12/11/2017 21:39

Seems pretty faithful to the book so far so I am giving it a chance. It will definitely be easier to imagine Mr Wilcox as a love interest with him played by Matthew MacFadyen.

Braceface · 12/11/2017 21:39

I don't think they would have said "pop round" in those days.

Am watching just for the houses and interiors 😍

LouiseBrooks · 12/11/2017 21:40

Who are the Wilcox family in relation to the other family?

They met on holiday, it was mentioned near the beginning.

For those who want to know the plot.

Was Edwardian England really that multicultural? The kimono women, the doctor, Annie that maid and Mrs Bast?

Apart from that still can't get the excellent film out of my mind. Quite like Julia Ormond though.

Parmesanity · 12/11/2017 21:43

The main characters don't look 'period enough' for my liking. It was far too much of a contemporary feel.

IrenetheQuaint · 12/11/2017 21:43

The clothes are pretty great too. Very intrusive background music though.

IroningMountain · 12/11/2017 21:43

I'm enjoying it.

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/11/2017 21:46

"Tibby was in bed with hay fever"?? Kudos to Hayley Atwell for delivering that line with a straight face Grin

eddiemairswife · 12/11/2017 21:46

Not finding it very gripping. I've seen the film, but didn't enjoy it as I have an aversion to Vanessa Redgrave.

catladyinthemaking · 12/11/2017 21:46

I’m enjoying it but mostly because I adore Hayley Atwell 😍
I’ve never read the book or watched the film though.

HolyShmoly · 12/11/2017 21:49

I've never read the book or seen the film but I love both Hayley Atwell and Matthew McFaddyen.

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 12/11/2017 21:49

lol at pop over

how about 'can i have a cigarette' haha

madeyemoodysmum · 12/11/2017 21:50

I know the storey very well but not started it yet. Sad a lot of you not liking it. I'd say it's not that easy to follow as a story tho even the film version

CoolCarrie · 12/11/2017 21:50

Howard's bleeding end as Rita in Educating Rita says, is boring, expect for the bit with the bookcase!

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 12/11/2017 21:52

its very am dram

corythatwas · 12/11/2017 21:52

The table manners!!! I couldn't have got away with that in the 60s.

CoolCarrie · 12/11/2017 21:53

Except that should be!

LouiseBrooks · 12/11/2017 21:54

I loved the film and we studied the book at university. This is shaping up well enough. There's quite a lot of characters to get used to but surely most dramas are like that?

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 12/11/2017 21:57

arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

sigh

lol

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 12/11/2017 21:59

I loved the film. Just haven’t got into this yet.

Mrs Wilcox is a dreadful actress.Hmm.

corythatwas · 12/11/2017 22:05

Leonard & Jackie's working class accents pretty unconvincing. A large part of the story hinges on the fact that in this period you can tell people apart by their accents, their clothing, their whole manner of moving and being. When Charles attacks Leonard in the bookcase scene part of his violence arises out of disgust that his father's SIL has got herself pregnant by this lower class character.

WipsGlitter · 12/11/2017 22:05

Very hard to hear at the start.

I liked it though.

Trailer for next week pretty much meant I don’t have to watch next week’s episode mind you! Spoiler central.
