If so, who do you think won? I know the answer because I was in the audience. My favourite song is coming on now. I had shivers going up and down my back! Moon River. Excellent.

I have put it on but I have NO iea what they are talking about

harpsichordcarrier · 07/04/2007 20:58

oh bless all those old blokes singing Verdi V fast

harpsichordcarrier · 07/04/2007 20:58

don't leave me simplysparkling I might need your help in a minute

SimplySparkling · 07/04/2007 20:59

Put 888 on! I understand so much more of what is being said and sung than I did when I was there. Thanks for posting btw. Which choirs have you listened to and what did you think of them? Oh, if they scan the audience at the end of this choir, that is me and dd they pointed the camera at. I know, I know, I'll be on the cutting room floor!

I have just put it on just now so I have only seen the old codgers singing Italian very fast but beautifully, and now something moving in Welsh, I expect
what do you look like, so I can spot you. were you singing?

harpsichordcarrier · 07/04/2007 21:02

oh that was lovely

SimplySparkling · 07/04/2007 21:02

Oh, am tearing up at this one. I've got shortish dark blonde hair, dark jacket. One of only about 6 people (bar dd and ds) in the audience under the age of 40!

SimplySparkling · 07/04/2007 21:06

I went to go to the loo in the interval. They were singing in the bar. It was wonderful. Such hwyl. (hwyl = feeling/belonging/whatever best describes it)

I am so at all those men who can sing and who so obviously enjoy it! It is so difficult to get English men to sing in choirs

harpsichordcarrier · 07/04/2007 21:08

(I have tried to put the text on, but it isn't available on Sky, so O am still guessing half of the time)

SimplySparkling · 07/04/2007 21:12

What a shame you can't get 888. I sympathise with you not being able to get men to sing. They won't take your word for it that they can sing, will they? It is so much easier if you're brought up singing in a choir in school or church or used to performing in Eisteddfods. I'm sure I'm on the cutting room floor. I thought they might put dd and ds on to show that it appealed to youngsters. Actually, not ds as he looked downright miserable because his leg was twitching all the time apparently! I've applied for tickets for the final for dd and I. Cross fingers we'll get them.

One of my late Dad's favourite songs being played, now.

harpsichordcarrier · 07/04/2007 21:13

(Am enjoying the adverts in Welsh too)
hmyl is a wonderful thing isn't it? I am such a mongrel, I don't feel it anywhere really, but I did get a bit of it in West Ireland once, bizarrely. In a pub where they were playing some Irish tunes and I looked around at the people and thought - oh, look, people like me.

SimplySparkling · 07/04/2007 21:16

Yes, it is funny, that feeling of belonging. You can't force it. It is entirely natural.

What do you think of the conductor's bow tie?!!!

OP posts:
harpsichordcarrier · 07/04/2007 21:17

gosh, thanks for making me switch over to this. is this the Dvorak they are singing now?

SimplySparkling · 07/04/2007 21:19

Just a mo. You're speaking to someone who knows nowt about music. I'll fetch the programme.

OP posts:
harpsichordcarrier · 07/04/2007 21:19

what a great bow tie.
what shop would you go to to buy something like that then??
this is really interesting repertoire isn't it?

SimplySparkling · 07/04/2007 21:22

Llanelli Male Voice Choir.

Not in the right order I think.

Non morrir Seneca. Monteverdi

Dydd da fy mherl. Orlando di Lasso

Lisa Lan (with ^ over the a in Lan) Trad.

Sanctus. Cherubini

Kyrie & Agnus Dei (Missa Criolla). Ariel Ramirez.

OP posts:
harpsichordcarrier · 07/04/2007 21:24

oh, interesting repertoire.
Ariel Ramirez - really interesting composer, South American.
it was the Cherubini and it was fab

SimplySparkling · 07/04/2007 21:24

You can get a Welsh dragon bow tie from a shop in most major towns I expect.

What choirs did you see? Which one did you like best? You can hear the bar singing now.

OP posts:
harpsichordcarrier · 07/04/2007 21:25

oh the boys rfom Flint!

harpsichordcarrier · 07/04/2007 21:26

oh they were the well deserved winners. their singing was a cut above, beautifully entertaining and very slick.
I loved the music of the Llanelli MVC though

harpsichordcarrier · 07/04/2007 21:29

I really enjoyed that actually. I never normally watch tv, but that was so interesting.
the bar singing was lovely.
are there other heats? are they all MVC or mixed voice?
couldn't see you in the audience shot btw

SimplySparkling · 07/04/2007 21:30

I liked the second choir best. Dh is from that neck of the woods so I think I'm tuned into their voices though two of the other choirs are from my neck of the woods (about 45 mins or so by car away, anyway!) Dh said that Flint would win. Grrrr.

If you enjoyed that, the finals are on at the end of this month. That will be on the tv too, I'm sure. The finalists of the kids, mixed, male and female (I think) choirs will be competing to see who is the overall winner. The actual date and time is 7pm on Sun 29th April but I don't know if it is going to be shown live. It might say on the S4C website.
