My wee boy is desparate to see this, do all you fans think it would be ok or is it a little scary.
He likes teenage turtles and cartoons which have a gentle scary thing going on. Mild peril I think they call it
In fact a typical boy.

The main attraction to dd2 is the monsters, she lives in hope of meeting one in RL
Majority od deaths in Dr who that I can think of atm are either slightly off screen , or shootings or baddies dying but if anyone can think of any bad ones please remind me as my brain keeps flicking over to Torchwood (they are bad !)

expatinscotland · 01/04/2007 21:24

yes, baby, she was about 3.5 when it started to bother her.

she just runs away and tells us to turn it off.

she does this with other things, too - like a trailer for Primeval.

Greenleeves · 01/04/2007 21:25

I think there's often an element of the parents wanting to enjoy watching it 'as a family' and deciding "Oh, it's not that bad, he'll be OK".

Wait until they're old enough, it's the responsible thing to do and they'll enjoy it much more. IMO.

Babyramone · 01/04/2007 21:26

Thats A good point, def depends on child.
My ds loves Dinosaurs and we've let him see some taped walking with dinosaurs. He got little confused why there's none in zoo so DH said they were pretend like Mighty Joe Young (a fav here)
Woludn't let him see Jurassic park though

I watched one last night nikkie (first one of the new series?) where the intergalactic thug police-type creatures were searching the hospital on the moon - at least twice there were full-screen shots of them shooting a person with a gun and the person exploding into flames (bone structures briefly visible, cries of agony) before being vaporised.

Not to mention the woman alien drinking people's blood with a straw, and a couple of choice close-ups of an exsanguinated corpse.

Nice viewing for a toddler.

PeachesMcLean · 01/04/2007 21:28

Sorry Justustwo, DS watched the straw bit and said "but there's no hole, that's not working" Cynical? My son? No....

PeachesMcLean · 01/04/2007 21:29

I do agree with that greensleeves, the disintegration thing was a bit much.

DeviousDaffodil · 01/04/2007 21:29

DS1 said the same.
'How does she make the hole it is only a straw'

tassis · 01/04/2007 21:30

you let him watch the news WW?

that's a whole new thread!

News24 is always on in out dr waiting room and ds is glued to TV whenever it's on. several times we've been there and he's viewed something i thought was totally inappropriate and i almost asked to turn it off (but then my scottish reserve kicked in...)

Greenleeves · 01/04/2007 21:30

Should he be cynical about that sort of graphic violence/death at that age though, Peaches? Would he be, if his viewing had been regulated a bit more firmly?

I think Bugs bunny and Tom and jerry are more violent and graphic personally.

essbeebarmy - actually only 3 of them are , rest are Pg, just went to check
I hadn't even looked tbh as I'd watched them before that.

How do they determine the difference ? one of them is ROse/end of the world/unquiet dead another is aliens of London/WW3/Dalek (not sure how those are any scarier than the others) and the other is, tooth and claw/school reunion/girl in the fireplace (can understand that one )

TBH when I first started watching them with the kids we sat down and watched together as I was so excited at the Dr being back and could remember watching from when I was little.Didn't think about scariness or anything especially since neither of mine are scared of films/books etc anyway.

clayre · 01/04/2007 21:34

my dd 4 and ds 23 months were glued to it last nite, dont think he understood thou! dd wasn't freaked out or scared just asked loads of questions

nikkie · 01/04/2007 21:36

Bollocks can't keep up here, can everyone stop posting til I have read , digested and posted at a time it makes sense?

No?

I'll carry on talking cr*p then!

PeachesMcLean · 01/04/2007 21:37

Greensleves, I'd like to ignore the patronising tone and just tell you DS is amusingly world weary about most things - that's just his way and his humour. He's 6 btw, not 3.

nikkie · 01/04/2007 21:38

Peaches, dd2 said that too!
dd1 wanted to know how the scanner worked

Mossie · 01/04/2007 21:39

Also iirc there is some additional material on some of the DVDs that makes them a 12 cert than PG.

nikkie · 01/04/2007 21:42

Ta Mossie!
Dare I say still here then? Overdue pregnant woman much scarier than Dr Who!

Mossie · 01/04/2007 21:43

Still here Nikkie!

Atm I do bear more than a passing resemblance to the Slitheen !

hitchcock · 01/04/2007 21:44

i am more scary than doctor who when i am due my period!!!!!! not pretty
