Yep me - I just said to my dh this is such an uplifting programme! My favourite but was when one of the men said that a piece of his heart had been stolen by the little girl (can't remember their names ) . I welled up!

Andcake · 01/08/2017 21:48

It's so lovely and what a wonderful idea. I used to sometimes walk past on old folks home to meet nxt friends and used to wonder what it would be like to combine old and young. Not always had issues finding places for 8 buggies 😀

foxessocks · 01/08/2017 21:52

I used to take my elderly grandad to a coffee morning and my dd would come too, she was about 2 at the time and the conversation used to really pick up when she was there - it's such an obvious idea really, the thing was there was a baby group on in the room next door so they could have easily combined the two!

Bravas · 01/08/2017 21:52

It's a lovely idea. My ds's class recently spent an afternoon at a care home and played games and ate ice cream with the residents, it was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Wish it was a regular thing, especially after seeing this programme.

pineappleeyes · 01/08/2017 21:53

It's just lovely. I liked it when one of the ladies said there's nothing quite like holding a little hand in yours.

I'm going to watch it again on catchup.

It would be nice if nursery groups/reception classes could visit the elderly more.

I did think when DD was a baby that I should pop in to see residents at the local old people's home - how much would they enjoy that? But I didn't as I thought people might think it was weird of me to ask!

Andcake · 01/08/2017 21:55

Absolutely...it's a to show but I would love to work out how things like this can happen more often.

Hamish is a wonderful lion 😄😄😄 and having a wonderful time.

Swearwolf · 01/08/2017 21:59

It's making me feel a bit sad too, something they said about how people don't realise that they miss the human contact until they have it. Are they going to feel worse than before when it's all over?

EssaysOfElia · 01/08/2017 21:59

My childminder takes my 3yo DS and her other mindees to a care home near us every few weeks.
The residents love it as do the kids.
I work in Adult Social Care and all my colleagues say what a great idea it is.

pineappleeyes · 01/08/2017 22:13

It's a great idea and both the children and the elderly get loads out of the interaction.

I remember going to the old people home to sing Christmas carols when I was at primary school but I don't think that happens round here anymore.

Gosh, bawled throughout, so lovely.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 02/08/2017 12:35

I saw this and must have got something in my eye at times, {sniff}.

Such a good idea. Lovely to watch. Fancy Hamish relaxing enough to play Sleeping Lions!
Am keen to see the results on tonight's programme.

ggirl · 02/08/2017 13:08

It is a lovely idea, those elderly were all very capable , very mobile and good cognition and hearing .
I wonder how the children would react to more infirm elderly who maybe couldn't react quite so normally or quickly to them . I work with elderly people and think the ones who aren't able to move or speak would also love to just watch the children .

blueskyinmarch · 02/08/2017 13:13

It was a lovely programme. I am looking forward to tonights one as i think the results for the older people will be spectacular.

MommaGee · 02/08/2017 15:20

Aw I missed it. When was it on? Can I series link it?

In sending my son to an old peoples home instead of nursery. He likes old people way more than kids

MyOtherProfile · 02/08/2017 15:26

Loved it. Loved how accepting the children were, like the little girl and Hamish with his false leg. Loved the guy who joined in late because he really wanted to be part of it. And loved the transformation in some of the old people.

TheFaerieQueene · 02/08/2017 15:27

It was a lovely programme.
It reminded me of when my DF was still able to get out of bed and use a wheelchair before the dementia took even that away from him. If he was out and saw a small child he would light up.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 02/08/2017 15:35

We take a group of children from church to sing Christmas carols at the local care home each year. The residents love it and the children and their parents all enjoy it too.

Floellabumbags · 02/08/2017 16:27

I love Hamish. I think it's so sad that he pretty much gave up on himself when he lost his leg.

Sidge · 02/08/2017 17:02

I loved it too, just watched it whilst ironing and found it rather sad but then heartwarming.

You could just see the older people becoming more agile, more responsive, more engaged. The children were lovely too, very well mannered and well behaved on the whole and I thought it was interesting that a couple of the children gravitated to the less involved (initially) adults, really coaxing them out.

Looking forward to tonight's episode.

viques · 02/08/2017 18:52

It was a great programme, it will be interesting to see if the residents scores of mobility etc that were measured at the start have changed. I loved the facial change in the Dutch woman who looked so sad and seemed so despondent but was laughing and happy at the end, and Hamish was a sweetie. They were a very compus mentis group to start with, but I wonder how a group of elders with mild dementia would respond to the children, I bet it would be positive. Looking forward to tonight's episode when they do races!

NapQueen · 02/08/2017 20:39

That is a fancy pants care home. Anyone know how much it is to see out your days there?

Toddlerteaplease · 02/08/2017 21:21

Love it. So sweet!

Toddlerteaplease · 02/08/2017 21:27

Live Hamish!

southeastastra · 02/08/2017 21:29
