Yes i know it is in the Sun but it amused me mostly cos I can't stand the programme....
mrtumble

OP posts:
TheArmadillo · 21/03/2007 20:26

well the guy who complained has got completely the wrong end of the stick hasn't he.

And the signs are similar, but not the same apparently.

Stupid non-story - slow news day?

If it is a problem then its nothing to do with Justin but to do with makaton and BSL being different languages.

Like complaining if a word in one (oral) language sounded like a swear word in another.

Ridiculous.

moondog · 21/03/2007 20:26

Good analogy Armadillo

TheArmadillo · 21/03/2007 20:28

"RNID spokeswoman Kate Sidwell said: ?We advised the BBC that using Makaton would cause confusion.

?Makaton is used more for children with learning difficulties ? it is essentially a different language.?

Yes and this is a programme for children with learning difficulties which is why they use makaton

Hulababy · 21/03/2007 20:29

I think the people from BNID just have sour grapes that the prograamme chose to use Makaton than BSL. Certainly reads like it anyway.

Aloha · 21/03/2007 20:30

Yes, stupid stupid RNID woman.

Hulababy · 21/03/2007 20:31

And all the dad had to say to his daughter was that Something Special used a different language to BSL, and that is why she did not recognise the sign. Very simple. Same as explaining to a child why some people use English and some French, surely?

TheArmadillo · 21/03/2007 20:31

just read this comment

"I am also disgusted and appalled. Only the other day, I sat down with my daughter to watch a 'so-called' educational programme which claims to teach children about the French language and found myself bombarded by the word 'wee'."

Yes Armadillo, but can't you just see people getting carried away, and Justin being a scapegoat. They'll probably be paedo accusations and all sorts.
Such is the world we live in!!!

BandofMothers · 21/03/2007 20:33

LOL about wee!!

maisym · 21/03/2007 20:34

armadillo - wonder what the people who commented on the 'wee'!! will make of watching Noddy in french

TheArmadillo · 21/03/2007 20:36

that would be disgusting

I love Justin.

Hope this story is forgotten or if not BBC don't let stupid people stop them making a great programme. That would be terrible.

TheArmadillo · 21/03/2007 20:37

what's noddy in french?

(never learnt french - did german instead)

maisym · 21/03/2007 20:38

ouioui

TheArmadillo · 21/03/2007 20:39

how disgusting!

frumpygrumpy · 21/03/2007 20:41

If I was Justin I couldn't resist signing in a whole massive swearfest just to see who's paying attention

frumpygrumpy · 21/03/2007 20:41

No offence meant to anyone there, my kids all love it and I think its fab too.

maisym · 21/03/2007 20:42

doesn't anyone complain about winnie the pooh my dd thinks it so funny!!

Housemum · 21/03/2007 20:58

Perhaps it's Justin's rebellious side! Or a Makaton/BSL version of the old Blue Peter fave - a "lovely pair of knockers" (said by Simon Groom looking at some brass door furniture)

Aloha · 21/03/2007 21:00

Makaton is DIFFERENT to BSL! IT is not a mistake, a gaffe or anything. Gah.

GO Peachygirl well said!!

my dd is NT and neither of us sign (unless copying Justin) but we both love Justin and something special.. think it's fantastic!

IntergalacticWalrus · 22/03/2007 10:14

DS1 loves the programme, but only when Justin is Mr Tumble.

He is a bit scared of Justin all other times (esp in Higgledy House)

I persobnally find him a bit creepy, but I can see his appeal

It's great reading the comments from the Sun readers. I love the way they get all up in arms about it!

KristinaM · 22/03/2007 10:19

great post peachgirl!

beansprout · 22/03/2007 13:50

The article says more about Sun readers than it does about Justin.
