On c4 tonight at 9 - thriller/drama about 'a teenager who is on the verge of acting out psychopathic desires' I've seen it advertised and am due something new to watch.
Anyone going to be watching with me?

OP posts:

His mum is starting to suss him out!

thenightsky · 04/05/2017 22:07

Is the father due to get out? I thought his application was refused last week.

Lillycat100 · 04/05/2017 22:15

Tonight episode was really good

youngestisapsycho · 04/05/2017 22:36

Is it the last one next week? It's been a bit slow...

zen1 · 04/05/2017 22:43

Last one is next week and I think it's supposed to speed up considerably!

Wadingthroughsoup · 04/05/2017 23:22

I'm watching it and enjoying it. Agree that the actor playing Sam is brilliant. Loving the soundtrack too.

He mobile number he have to his dad- was that his own number or his mum's? Missed a bit of dialogue as dog is on our bed noisily chewing a bone. Grin

Wadingthroughsoup · 04/05/2017 23:23

Tsk. Fat fingers.

The not he. Gave not have.

youngestisapsycho · 04/05/2017 23:41

I am really enjoying it... but it feels like there will be lots squeezed into the last hour?!

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 04/05/2017 23:41

oooo i love it too

shame its ending next week

glamourousgranny42 · 05/05/2017 22:36

It was his mums mobile number.
I wonder if he will share what he's done with his dad in the hope he will be impressed or proud of him.

The lad who plays Sam is very good, he gives me the creeps.

Wadingthroughsoup · 05/05/2017 22:53

Thanks glamorous. I thought it was the mum's number he gave. That's so creepy. I also think he'll disclose to his dad. I thought it was telling the hate he said something along the lines of dad not having to pretend to him, the way he has to with everyone else. If the dad is due to get out soon, maybe they'll go on a murder spree together. Shock

I'm sure the evil granny's card is marked. What a horrendous character she is (not that I'm suggesting anyone deserves to be murdered, obvs!)

Imstickingwiththisone · 05/05/2017 23:34

I think eps 2 & 3 have been great. I think Cathy let him in because she was a bit pissed and he is her very good friends son and it would be a bit insulting to refuse him when he directly asked.

The only issues i have are with the first episode. Going in and reading to the patients of a geriatric ward jars with his character unless he was always grooming them to kill which isn't the case as the Mr Williams murder was spontaneous. The murder itself was daft, it just seemed quite far fetched that he wasn't caught immediately.

The murder of Cathy in EP 2 is more plausible as he is essentially framing her plus getting revenge on the way she has spoken to and about him over the years.

Interested to see what happens in the final episode. I don't understand why he gave his mum's mobile number though, i thought it was his own.

DowntheTown · 05/05/2017 23:47

I put the subtitles on to check - it was his own mobile. I thought awesome acting from him especially tonight. Gripping!

salsmum · 07/05/2017 01:19

Does anyone else think that the soon as Sams mum sees the cross necklace she'll know he murdered her best friend?.. I've got a funny feeling that gold cross belonged to her and Sam has taken it as a trophy.

StripyBlanket · 07/05/2017 10:54

salsmum I also think that the necklace will be his downfall. I don't think he meant to give it to Chrissy but was caught up in the moment when she gave him a present.

I binge watched the first 3 episodes last night and am so looking forward to the final episode. It's so so creepy, agree the actor playing Sam is fantastic. Best thing I've seen in a long time.

JamesDelaneysHat · 11/05/2017 22:04

Wow that was intense. It all went a bit Cape Fear at the end!

purpleme12 · 11/05/2017 22:05

I couldn't watch the end in the end. It all got too dark and too much for me.

Lillycat100 · 11/05/2017 22:08

I know his mum was trying to protect Sam , but if she has told him the truth about his dad, Sam wouldn't of had these issues? Is that was the message was maybe ?

newtlover · 11/05/2017 22:16

I suppose once you start lying to a child it's hard to stop. But I think if there was a message it's that he was always doomed to end up like that.

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 11/05/2017 22:28

wow

scary episode but fab

Dulra · 12/05/2017 08:34

JamesDelaneysHat Cape Fear is exactly what I thought of at the end I kept waiting for Dad to get up and have one more attempt at slaughtering them all Grin.

Tbh I don't know what the point of it was. A lot of it was uncomfortable and disturbing viewing. Sam's acting was the only thing that kept me watching. I would like to think that his actions were as a result of the trauma he suffered as a child and not being told the truth of what happened meant he could never make sense of it and deal with it so it festered. Don't like the idea that was portrayed that his Dad was evil and violent so it was inevitable he would be.

Optimist1 · 12/05/2017 09:46

Agree with every word you say, Dulra.

RuncibleSp00n · 12/05/2017 10:00

I made the decision not to watch this as I didn't feel comfortable watching a drama that peddled the myth that children of offenders will inevitably be 'tainted' and go on to perpetrate similar offences. Ugh. Sad

I'm very close to someone who had this in their past. He had to grow up without his father, with no stable male role model to fill the gap, living all his childhood semi-aware of the awful truth about what crime his father had committed, being told by everyone that he looked 'just like his father' etc. As a result he has faced demons which are nothing like many on this thread will have faced. He has experienced low self-esteem, anger towards his father, depression, alcohol dependence, and ongoing anxiety which is so bad it manifests in long-term physical symptoms. But, with tremendous courage he has somehow survived his experiences of stigma-by-association and with the help of a living and close-knit family in his mothers side, has grown into a lovely, kind, socially responsible citizen, with his own young family and a good career.

Because I love this person dearly, I don't want to collude in the stigma-by-association scaremongering sensationalist bullshit peddled by the sort of narrative discourse at the core of this TV drama. Angry

StripyBlanket · 12/05/2017 18:19

Its very rare I comment on acting, but oh my goodness, the actor who played Sam was amazing. So believable. Hope he goes on to big things

JamesDelaneysHat · 12/05/2017 18:56

Yes he was amazing. Dulra makes a good point though. It was a bit sensationalist in the way it portrayed psychopathy.
