How mad was the bloke? How tolerant was his wife?
But that HOUSE! (swoon)

Yes, Marina, they had to rebuild the wall in stock bricks in the end (that was what the fuss what about)

ueue · 01/03/2007 14:54

Who were the tits with the stupid tap in the kitchen they all stood round looking as though it was some sort of second coming? I hated them.

I loved the castle. I do think the wife was swigging the wine rather - made me larf.

And I liked the woodcutter house best - he was lovely and I was so glad he had found a lovely wife and had a baby [fairytale ending]

They annoyed The London Festival Orchestra .

He was called Milko or something bizarre

Marina · 01/03/2007 14:56

Ah, that's what happened, thanks NDP
I somehow suspect she got few commissions after that programme aired
Agree Exbury, I had a day dream on the train in this morning about winning the lottery and commissioning Mr and Mrs Shaw to do their Lutyens max on a ruin of my choosing
I think it was the staircase going in

JonesTheSteam · 01/03/2007 14:56

Marina - £300k mortgage is way out of my league though.

Aloha · 01/03/2007 14:56

I loved it, and thought he rather sweetly looked about seven years old every time he looked at it or spoke about it. I also thought he deserved a medal, an MBE or a big wodge of cash from the nation for saving that beautiful building.
BTW the guy from English Heritage was such an arse, wasn't he? He and the real world were strangers indeed.

Marina · 01/03/2007 14:57

Oh mine too Jones

NomDePlume · 01/03/2007 14:57

Milko the banker

Marina · 01/03/2007 14:58

Typo there I think NdP

Songbird · 01/03/2007 14:58

Ah yes, the woodcutter house.... my fave too. He?d been living in a caravan for 20-odd years hadn?t he? Wasn?t there some condition of planning consent that only he was allowed to live in it? So when he dies the house has to be pulled down? I really hope that that will be a long way off and by then the planners are not complete jobsworth gits!! Apologies if there are any present!

JonesTheSteam · 01/03/2007 14:58

story here

Aloha · 01/03/2007 14:59

The violin factory the worst couple EVER. The eco house in the forest was brilliant. Really moving actually.

Whizzz · 01/03/2007 14:59

I could not believe what it started out as & how it ended up - WOW - I also loved the roof bit - stunning.
It was nice that they seemed so'normal' some of the bods on previous progs seem to live on another planet

Marina · 01/03/2007 14:59

Well, the dumb waiter is certainly in the right place

Aloha · 01/03/2007 15:00

I kept thinking they needed another couple of children, then it would have that real 'I capture the castle' vibe.

chocolateshoes · 01/03/2007 15:00

to be honest I was swooning at our Kevin. He is soooooo lovely. And 90 mins of him too!Am made up there's a new series. Oh,...and the house was ok!

CheesyFeet · 01/03/2007 15:01

The staircase was fab but the hall floor was such a mistake

I turned over to More4 when it had finished and watched Kevin with Naomi Cleaver and an architect (sorry forgotten her name) pick the decor to shreds... "but dahhhling there was so much more they could have done with it"

Marina · 01/03/2007 15:07

The hall floor was the only thing I didn't like, granted...erm and maybe that granite bath. But overall the effect was absolutely wonderful (am huge fan of Castle Drogo)

Aloha · 01/03/2007 15:07

Yes bath awful. Looked terribly uncomfy.

Tinker · 01/03/2007 15:07

The granite bath looked too upright

bronniemuldoon · 01/03/2007 15:08

Ah, you can't beat lovely Kevin. He always finds "integrity" in the building somewhere. Thought the couple last night were OK - if a bit mad. Enjoyed watching the wife swigging the wine at the end!! I loved the wood cutter story the best too - I'll never forget him running a bath for the first time in 10 years! Don't you think a lot of GD's end up a bit spartan and souless - very cutting edge I know but just can't imagine living in a sterile cube myself. Maybe I'm just a heathen.

Booboobedoo · 01/03/2007 15:09

I liked the floor, but the bath looked like a sarcophagus.

What's the betting that when those daughters inherit it they flog it straight to a hotel chain?

bronniemuldoon · 01/03/2007 15:11

Yes, my DH said "lovely bath" - I thought it looked the most uncomfortable thing ever.

sassy · 01/03/2007 15:15

What's the betting the bath's sreamlind effect is ruined when someone sits in it, reclining against a poly-cotton-covered blowup bath pillow with suckers?

PInk or lilac no doubt.
