Here we are to rant and rave

DH doesn't really watch it, wanders in and out in an annoying fashion, but even he noticed the standard seemed poorer this year.
I knew Candice would win, despite that chocolate cake having a sneaky vanilla layer and the burnt pastry. I really didn't like the twee over the top presentation of her bakes. Paul however, did.
I liked Jane and Andrew both as people and bakers.

I honestly thought candice's ganache had split as she poured it on. The numbers of times that happens at our house (every bloody time we make ganache), DH and I were shouting at all the screen. No mention of it at all.

I was supporting Jane, think candice probably did deserve it... I still wasn't that fussed about any of the finalists.

Bye bake off, we will miss you so! Do you think any of them knew?

I assume the burnt bits didn't count against Candice because she had the sense to cut them off.

I liked Candice from the point in, I think, the second episode when she had a giggle with Sue when Sue asked where she got the orange juice from and she said "Er, the orange".

Mary did comment that the tart pastry was overbaked.

I would pay good money to see Val on I'm A Celebrity GMOOH Grin.

I'm gutted that Candice won. I could have sworn that every time Paul or Mary critiqued either Jane or Andrew's bake that the camera showed her with a real glint in her eye, like she was delighted but trying to mask it.

Her speech seemed so rehearsed, yet she tried to make it seem so "on the spot". I don't believe for one minute that she didn't think she was going to win.

Did anyone else notice her dog running off (with lead attached) when she was announced? Thought that was the highlight of the programme.

Bear in mind that these shows are heavily edited. For all you know, when the camera showed Candice with a "real glint in her eye" it wasn't even the same day or she was reacting to something totally different. I think on the basis of what she made, she had to win - there is really no way the others could be allowed to win with undercooked pastry.

Mner, her ganache had split. It looked all grainy and not lovely and shines like its suppose to look. I was waiting for Paul to mention it as he didn't comment for ages, then completely missed it (Hmm) or so wanted her to win so didn't mention it. Her tarts were burnt, not just bloody over baked and her sausage rolls were undercooked too, just not to the extent of the others.

She can't bring out a line of lipstick. Which idiot would buy a lipstick from a woman who applies her lipstick like the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland and has no idea what colour actually suits her and makes her teeth look either green or orange depending on which completely unsuitable colour she has gone for this week?

Jane should have won. Now I'll never be able to go in a supermarket or bookshop for fear of spotting her dreadful face leering out form the front of a cookbook. Aaaaaarrrrrggggghhhhhhh!

I'll never understand the people who watch a lovely program like Bake Off just to hate on the contestants. Stick to X Factor or whatever.

They were all lovely people, Candice deserved to win.

I do think that Candice got an easy ride though. What was labored by PH with others, was glossed over with her.

Don't like or dislike her, am ambivalent. However, really liked Jane, thought she was a solid baker with flashes of inspiration, like her fleur de lys decoration she did and I loved her floral collar cake. Whereas Candice's creations always looked wonky with everything thrown at it, every colour imaginable, every sort of cake, just a bit OTT and not so tasteful as Jane's bakes. I honestly think Jane deserved to win and although Candie is a good baker obviously, she was quite lucky.

I agree LadyConstance, I think it needs repeating as some people don't seem to realise this.
It's the reason why the contestants and presenters wear the same clothes for the two day shoot. So the editors can choose shots from anytime over the weekend.
And the whole pitting ting with Candice, imo it was just nerves, she dos it much less as the series went on. Surly people understand she must have been bricking it, realising millions of people were watching her? I would be abyway.
I don't understand why people are so nasty about someone doing a nice thing. It's not as if she's deliberately set out to antagonise.Hmm

Poor Candice! I can't see what she's done to deserve all this bitching about her.

She was one of the best bakers pretty much every week and was the best in the final, so she won. Didn't seem like favoritism to me.

She seems perfectly nice to me. And it's really shitty to pick on her appearance.

Marbleheadjohnson · 27/10/2016 08:33

I didn't even think the editing made it look like she was smirking at the comments for the other two (cf Kimberley from the Kimberley/ Ruby/Frances year!), to me it looked more like she was wincing in solidarity with her fellow contestants. I hated her lipstick but she seems nice enough, I think the hate is a bit unfair.

Thanks cauli. I was starting to think we'd imagined it. Hot milk is a great fix Grin. Definitely too late for that as she poured it on..

Going on the showstopper Candice had to win really just because Jane's cake looked dreadful. And I think it was PH who said that Jane's hamper looked fit for royalty so there was 'glossing over' there too. No way could that cake be the centre piece at any royal event or even a family wedding!

I didn't dislike any of the contestants and it is completely beyond their control how the judges treat them and how the producers choose to edit to create a portrayal of them (which is done for the publicity you get when people are bitching about one of the contestants like some people are here).

It must be awful going on a baking show knowing that the public are going to delight in pulling you apart if you do or say the wrong thing.

I really didn't want Candice to win, I found her really smug !!! I guess now her and her lipstick will be popping up everywhere. ... first she will be cooking on Lorraine, then she will be on This Morning, then she will probably end up being a "loose women" .. blimey she will probably even appear on eastenders holding a strudel !!! Oh and I'm a gooey crumpet.

Such a lot of grumpiness about such a lovely programme!

I thought Candice clearly had it in the bag after the showstopper and if anything the editing appeared to try to make the comments look a bit more even to save a bit of tension for the announcement.

I loved Jane and Andrew but think Candice was a deserved winner.

I thought her comments at the end of the programme were so lovely and genuine, she was clearly overwhelmed - not sure how anyone could think she was playing for the cameras.

I love the fact in GBBO that despite them all being competitive they all seem genuinely pleased for the other contestants when they do well.

Yeah, it's not like she did anything to anyone, she helped others and clearly they liked her and kept in touch after. It's a bit extreme. DH told me she's had a lot of Twitter trolls but handled them well.
