The presenter was super annoying with his plaintive she lied to me!'

Of course she lied to you you numpty. Why would she let you in on her Kate Middleton scoop?

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/09/2016 10:55

Also I know the Kate cover was a massive coup and made loads of commercial sense but what she hardly represents the Vogue ethos. She especially does not represent a century of style! Kate Middleton is the anti Vogue in my mind.

AgentCooper · 16/09/2016 10:56

Oh man, is this on I player? I once went for lunch at Vogue (writing competition thing). It was fucking mad - the starter was 2 bits of asparagus, main was chicken with a few tiny veggies, dessert was berries. Sophie Dahl and Alexandra Shulman were there and it was the first time I'd heard real people say 'yah' for yes.

I felt so out of place, as a 21 year old Glaswegian in tights in the height of summer. But it was a laugh!

GoodLuckTime · 16/09/2016 11:09

Yes it will be on iPlayer. Agree the 'but she lied to me' was ridiculous/ naive/ self centred.

She had a decoy cover to prevent leaks, and not just from you, you idiot. It had to be kept secret from most of the office otherwise it would have come out (and maybe resulted in the DoC pulling out). So they needed a convincing decoy cover whether or not there's a documentary crew watching.

Do feel a bit sorry for the art director, though. She was wron about the flag shot but the 100 illustration was beautiful. Hope they used it elsewhere.

Think the doc maker did get under Shulman's skin in the end. She was clearly very uncomfortable not just talking about herself but being introspective at all. One of those people who would benefit from some food therapy but will never ever go.

When Nicholas Coleridge made that nice speak about her at the end and it brought her to tears it was clear she does care a lot, even if she came over as bored and embarrassed most of the time.

The girl talking about her very red Prada coat was hilarious. DH thought she was joking but I think she meant every word.

She was amazing! So sincere! Her passion was quite infectious.

I also thought Lucinda Chambers came across brilliantly, so eloquent and warm and not what you expect to find in the fashion world.

Cocolepew · 16/09/2016 11:53

Kim K looked about 3ft tall.
Its the first time that DH had come across her, after he got over her arse I had to try to explain why she was famous Confused

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/09/2016 12:03

I loved red coat girl. She was sincere about her love for the Prada coat but was gently taking the piss out of herself too. At least that's how it felt to me.

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/09/2016 12:06

Yes, I thought that cover image was gorgeous!

Chipstick10 · 16/09/2016 12:37

The red prada coat girl was a character that could've been written by Victoria wood

southeastdweller · 16/09/2016 12:53

I think the 'you lied to me' thing was something he came up with to make the documentary more interesting, as well as the September Issue 'homage'.

Alexandra doesn't have the right personality to have made this the fun and exciting documentary it could have been, sadly. I'm assuming N.C pressured her into taking part.

Lottapianos · 16/09/2016 13:18

I enjoyed the second episode much more than the first. I thought it was a more nuanced portrait of Alexandra, despite the doc maker's ridiculous whining about having been 'lied to' Hmm Boo hoo, she was under no obligation to share any information with you at all! I laughed when he asked her if she had felt bad about lying to him and she said 'no, I didn't Grin

I quite liked Alexandra in the end. She seems like a very serious, solemn kind of person who is probably extremely hard on herself. She seems like someone who holds a lot inside. So she's not tons of fun, well so what? Not everyone can be. I thought she looked stunning in the silver dress at the end

Kate Middleton being used to represent 100 years of Vogue was Confused

Lucinda Chambers was fabulous. Gorgeous woman, very warm and interesting, seemed lovely. I loved how she put together 3 outfits from the rail of clothes in about 10 seconds flat Smile And her cheerful response to Patrick Demarchelier when he told her she was looking young - 'that's such shit Patrick, I've just got off a flight' Grin

I thought Anna Wintour was unexpectedly pleasant in her 2 minute interview segment

megletthesecond · 16/09/2016 13:29

Ah, I loved red shearling Prada coat girl. I hope her and her coat have many happy cosy winter days ahead of them.

MitzyLeFrouf · 16/09/2016 13:37

The photoshoot with Stella Tenant representing 1910 looked so amazing.

anotherschoolquestion · 16/09/2016 15:05

Thought red coat girl was awful! But loved loads of the others like Lucinda Chambers and Rosie something and, by the end, Alex S.

Second part much better than the first - he'd def got under the editor's skin and was getting more out of her. I loved her talking in Hyde Park.

EachandEveryone · 16/09/2016 15:51

Anna Wintour always come accross well i loved The September Issue.

I was dissappointed by the exhibition at the Portrait gallery. I think Brooklyn Beckham in my face as soon as i walked in put me off for the rest of it.

southeastdweller · 16/09/2016 17:41

Just thinking about the Tatler documentary from a couple of years ago, that was so much better because the people involved were more open and less inclined to take themselves seriously than the Vogue team.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 16/09/2016 17:44

I think I'll re-watch The September Issue. That gave a good insight into life at American Vogue.

DiegeticMuch · 17/09/2016 01:07

He'd done no research. He'd bought one edition of Vogue. He had no idea how many covers the #1 Brit model had done for them. The faux naïveté was grating. He thought he was above it all.

Alexandra looked like a middle manager at British Gas, not top dog at Vogue.

Loved lucinds Chambers and the grey haired girl.

Lottapianos · 17/09/2016 09:07

He was extremely annoying. I can well imagine how Alexandra got totally hacked off with the whole thing. I was quite pleased when she tricked him and was unapologetic about it!

ElspethFlashman · 17/09/2016 09:53

I honestly don't think I can watch any more.

When he was bleating about documentaries being about "trust" I rolled my eyes so hard.

He kept saying he was there 7 months at that point and all I could think of was "And this is all the material you've gotten?? A random woman talking about jeans???"

Alex clearly despises him, and I don't blame her, when he was cluelessly talking about the 100th edition as being basically next week's bin lining after all their work and expense.

ElspethFlashman · 17/09/2016 09:54

Lucinda is fab though. I want to go for a drink and a natter with her.

Lottapianos · 17/09/2016 11:02

Yes Elspeth, it was extremely rude of him to suggest that the 100th anniversary edition of Vogue was just 'ephemera', especially having seen how hard they all worked on it. Alexandra did well not to storm off at that point. She stood up to him by saying it's a historical document and she's right

Totally agree about Lucinda too!

TeaAddict235 · 21/09/2016 17:17

watching that programme and AS's seriousness (just be pleasant woman) made me glad that I don't particularly like vogue magazines; they come across so boring and uppity about crap like stripes direction or size of jingle jangle earrings and a fur coat.

Also thought that the office seemed samey- 20-30's lookalike ladies, same hairstyles, little visible creativity or expression.....yawn.

I agree with the earlier poster who said that the magazine covers are not the only thing to sell the magazine, but the articles too.
