Secret life of children at christmas

Fascinating show.

However slightly annoying that the little boy that doesn't believe in God or Jesus was shouted down with no adult intervention but when he blew raspberries when they discussed the nativity play he was told off.

He's just as entitled to his beliefs, however they may change over the years, as the children who do believe.

Yes blowing raspberries was naughty and needed to be managed but I do think so should his being chanted at 'God is real' by several other children.

We can't tell why Cuba behaves differently. His mum said they withdrew him from school because he couldn't sit still etc. It seems just as likely that he has something like ADHD making mainstream school wrong for him, as his parents alternative parenting being the cause.

As for the teachers not intervening - I think you forget the premise of a show called 'The secret life of...'. They want to show what happens between children when they aren't being directed by adults. The children are not there to be educated. They are there to make good TV.

Ofsted would have a field day...

I think Cuba was supposed to doing in his musical interlude. They gave him something to do that he was confident to do.

Interesting programme. Interesting hearing everyone's views too. Yes I realise secret etc but surely there's a limit?

Also, surprised as I was raised catholic this is the first I've heard there's concrete evidence Jesus existed!

I actually think the discussion about God was very interesting. None of the children took kindly to their views being challenged, and although the chanting was the wrong thing for the children to do, earlier footage had shown Cuba threaten punch all the childrens faces so none of them behaved appropriately when challenged.

My favourite line was Jessica when asked how Mary would have felt travelling to bethlehem and she said "knackered" Grin

Just seen the bit where Cuba smacks the sheet of paper out of the teachers hand, say 'rubbish' and the teacher say 'ok' in a surprised voice. But then nothing. I'm assuming he must have been told off but why didn't we see that??

Just watching with my DC.

None of the children were particularly kind or diplomatic in the beginning about the Jesus stuff but then many adults of various beliefs are aggressive and rude in their expression of their personal views.

Putting that scene aside though most of the children were lovely.

I LOVE this series. It's fascinating. I do think that Cuba was supposed to be singing. I think it was just edited to look as if he suddenly took over and burst into song. Hence Mum and Dad were encouraging him, in the same way the other parents were.

I really enjoyed this show and the series before it. It's so interesting to watch. I'd imagine the children probably were reprimanded over certain aspects of the show off camera. Alfie and Emily were just adorable.

Just finished watching it - and on cue - I burst into tears everytime they sang.
Can't wear mascara to ANYTHING dd performs in as I inevitably end up in tears!!!!
All those parents should be so proud. I'm especially fond of Elvin though and the little girl who played Joseph.

The teachers did brilliantly in getting all the children up on stage and following a script. Was Cuba meant to be sitting in the manger at the end?

I loved how the muslim mum told her son that making friends with people who were nice was far more important than their religion or the colour of their skin.

Elvin was lovely. I think he's growing up to be a gentle giant. Such a lovely little soft hearted boy.

You all missed the phrase that made me snort. - Cuba is "autonomously home educated" so he follows his own curriculum.
My dd (10) & I were talking about whether he has any friends being home ed and the fact that if he does they will be ones his parents choose for him rather than the melting pot that is school.

Why did that make you snort, taptonaria27? I must be missing something

autonomously home educated.....another words we can't make him behave - so we let him do whatever he wants - and boy doesn't it show!
