'If you look at their website recipes the protein portions are tiny. Four chicken breasts for 20 people in a chicken bake, 1 large tin of tuna in pasta bake etc.'

I wouldn't believe them for a second. There's no way you can split 4 chicken breasts or one large tin of tuna between 20 people.

Pantone363 · 14/12/2015 11:03

They won't be pulling it that amount of benefits as the benefit cap will apply and includes CB and TC. The most they could claim would be £23k (ish).

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 14/12/2015 11:16

You physically cannot cut four chicken breasts up to be a meal for 20. You would get one tiny sliver of chicken! Or one flake of tuna... That's definitely a lie.

hownottofuckup · 14/12/2015 11:34

I grew up with small protein portions, stuff was padded out with mushrooms etc.
When I was at uni someone asked me to cut up the chicken breast, it was only for two so I cut up half of one breast. When she said she meant me to cut up two breasts I was Shock and wondered where the bleedin mushrooms were!
So, whilst it might not be your experience, doesn't mean other people don't do it and manage perfectly well.

findingmyfeet12 · 14/12/2015 13:13

Mushrooms are quite protein rich in comparison to other veg and more expensive than potatoes and cabbage.

sorry you are very wrong the benefit cap does not apply to those working,so they get the £52k a year benefit plus wages of £32k total alot

Ihave watched some of the programmes about this family, and agree that on face of it they seem a lovely family in many ways. Parents supporting them, not 'scroungers' kids all clean and presentable and not apparently going of the rails , so who am i to criticise. ? I can see also the life skills those kids must develop , getting along, looking after yourself, caring for others, etc etc....but how on earth do any of them develop into individuals ? were is the parental input and support to enable you to develop a sense of self ? who helps with homework ? how on earth do they all feel valued as individuals when they are one homogeneous mass ? Perhaps that is why none of the older ones seem able to or to want to leave home .
As a parent of 2 very different children and 2 different again step children, i can just about manage to make sure i keep up with, encourage and enable four childrens' interests, talents, weaknesses etc.
I do not believe with 18 it would be possible to know what was going on in each child's life, who their current friends were etc. And what happens when one child wants to take up a sport for instance ? How with 18 do you arrange all those extra things like sports clubs or music lessons or whatever ?????
It is more for the fulfilment of the parents rather than the benefit of the children to have so many, and for me is the ultimate selfish behaviour.

Four chicken breasts between 20 is just silly

Four chicken breasts between 20 is just silly

Would everyone even get a bit? Confused

We have 4 chk breats between 6, 2 dcs under 7

AndNowItsSeven · 14/12/2015 15:50

I am genuinely confused by all the references to helping with homework. I have high aspirations for my dc yet homework was limited to listening to then read and spellings in primary school. At senior level children are expected to do their own homework. Yes they might need to ask a couple of questions regarding which websites would be useful. It's really not that time consuming.

shutupandshop · 14/12/2015 15:55

And now, my 6 year old has lots of homework.

Groovee · 14/12/2015 16:04

Sue once said on the Facebook page that the recipes were made on the website to four portions so you could adapt it according to the numbers you are feeding.

I remember she took 2 of them to nursery and had one of her own and her grand daughter at home with her and that they paid for babies to go to nursery once they were older so she could work in the bakery beside Noel, but that Sophie was in the bakery while her mum stayed home!

Artandco · 14/12/2015 16:32

And now - my 4 year old gets a piece of maths, writing and reading every single school night. All to be completed and in the next morning. Sure it's basic but it's still hard for a 4 year old so he needs guidance and explanation. My 5 year old gets the same but harder, plus spellings and science homework on top once a week.
Like I said this is 30mins min each, each night. No way could we do 18 children!

Can you imagine going through passport control with that many?!

They don't seem to have that many games/ toys/ books for 18 children do they? Just one box in living room and couldn't see anything anywhere else.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 14/12/2015 16:34

I seem to remember a Christmas episode where they wrapped up absolutely loads... But their bedrooms look bare?

SpendSpendSpend · 14/12/2015 16:43

I dont think the programme gives a try reflection of their life.

It must be absolutely chaos all the time.

What a life she must have to always be knackared from being constantly pregnant and looking after all those kids and doing all the laundry, bills, cooking food shopping.

Nobody would be able to have the evergy for all that

Seeyounearertime · 14/12/2015 16:52

Nobody would be able to have the evergy for all that

They must get the energy from somewhere for a bit of "the other" though Wink nudge nudge wink wink.

Artandco · 14/12/2015 16:54

Also. 9 loads of washing a day is ridiculous. We are a family of 4 and do 4/5 a week. So that's roughly one load per person. So surely they should be doing more like 18-20 loads a week not 63 loads? (9 x7 days)

Is that a private school Art or a London primary where parents "expect homework"? My four year old is exhausted after school, she falls asleep in the way home. I would not be impressed if she then had homework other than her reading book.
There is evidence that homework at primary level has no positive impact on GCSE results.

yankeecandle4 · 14/12/2015 17:30

I do think that they are trying to put an image forward now rather than what they actually are. They seem to mention things in publicity that have been recent criticisms of them, so they seem quite concerned to keep up a good look.

They always maintained that daughter Sophie worked full time in the bakery, but her FB seems to tell a different story. Sue withheld two nursery aged children as she couldn't bear to have only two at home (they said this in last years programme) but a PP said that they put the babies in nursery? They seem to say one thing then deny it at a later date.

Regarding food; the Duggars (an American mega size family ) always put a lot of weight on after marriage. I remember an interview with Josh where he said he could never have a full portion of food as he was conscious that the younger children were growing and needed it more. I'm not saying that this is the case with the Radfords, but to me that food expenditure is very little for that size of family if they are having decent portions and a substantial amount of protein. In saying that, their "parties" consist of ham sandwiches and crisps, so perhaps they aren't foodies anyway.

Art we are family of nine and do at least four loads a day. So approx 30 a week.

Artandco · 14/12/2015 17:40

And - it's a London private.

30 a week? How? I know your family is double ours in size but you do x6 times the amount of laundry!
