I have to be careful listening to it whilst driving as sometimes I do just get overwhelmed and burst into tears. More during this bit with all those brave young men than with the whole Valjean hoohah.

My current username is a nod to one of my favourite scenes in Les Mis.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 23/08/2015 23:33

It's Bring Him Home that gets me, I often listen to it on repeat (JOJ version) and get all overwhelmed and weepy Blush

firefly78 · 23/08/2015 23:33

desperate to see the show again!

NoonAim · 23/08/2015 23:34

The lovely Enjolras should have lived.

"strangled budgie" is a perfect description Mrsjayy Grin

CharleyDavidson · 23/08/2015 23:39

MASSIVE Spoilers earlier! I've not watched this before.

Mrsjayy · 23/08/2015 23:39

I go a bit funny when enjorlas sacrafices himself sigh

Mrsjayy · 23/08/2015 23:41

Oh sorry didnt mean to spoil it

Jungfraujoch · 23/08/2015 23:43

Oh god empty chairs and empty tables - tissues!

PetitPiaf · 23/08/2015 23:45

Ugh. Cosette is such a bore. Siegfried's voice could break glass Confused

tigerscameatnight · 23/08/2015 23:47

I'm a theatre nut. I worked backstage on west end shows for years and fully agree Cosette in the film is bloody screechingly awful.

I love JOJ he's a total sweetheart but he sometimes pulls weird faces when he sings and it puts me off Blush Grin

Colms (the bishop) voice is not as strong as it was but I still love him.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 23/08/2015 23:50

LOL tiger JOJ does sometimes pull weird faces but that voice! I ignore anything for that, especially in Phantom when he sings Music of the Night - I literally turn to a strangely breathing pile of mush in my seat Blush

As for Colm Wilkinson, his voice isn't as strong now, but he still has something there, not as much as he did but he still has something Smile

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 23/08/2015 23:51

Earl Carpenter is pretty good too

PermetsTu · 23/08/2015 23:56

I don't like that Marius sings in the style of Kermit. It's very distracting.

Enjolras is my favourite. His death (in the book more than the musical) and the way Grantaire stands beside him at the last report is just devastating.

tigerscameatnight · 23/08/2015 23:59

Earl Carpenter is fab and my Mums favourite Phantom. At one point a few months ago he was doing the matinee in one show and the evening show in another show in another country Shock

I have a huge soft spot for Colm , he is the loveliest of people.

The fil. is reminding me just how much I blooming miss my old job though Sad Sad

firefly78 · 23/08/2015 23:59

Eponine didn't sing with fantine at the end. i like that bit!

MariusPontmercy · 24/08/2015 00:11

When Fantine comes back at the end, why doesn't she even look at Cossette? You'd have thought she would have cast a glance at her daughter.

They ditched the best lyric in the death scene, where JVJ sings 'It's the story of those who always loved you / Your Mother gave her life for you, then gave you to my keeping'

Mrsjayy · 24/08/2015 00:12

Im watching plus 1 poor Eponine bless her she had a shit life

MariusPontmercy · 24/08/2015 00:13

But the teeniest, weeniest waist.

Mrsjayy · 24/08/2015 00:15

Poor girl was half starved sam barks must have been well corsetted in

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 24/08/2015 00:24

Marius messes up at one point so it doesn't rhyme at all if I knew I had to sing live without a script I'd make sure I knew the flipping words properly.

But then I have a bit of a thing for Michael Ball as Marius, and Eddie Redmayne doesn't measure up for me. He's a bit wet - although I suppose that matches Cosette nicely!

Mrsjayy · 24/08/2015 00:29

Dd just said ooo the bit where they get dysentry Grin

AmIthatbloodywet · 24/08/2015 08:06

Well. I've never seen this before, stage or screen and I LOVED it.

Amanda Seyfried's voice was awful, and the young lad was a bit "core blimey mate," and wouldn't have looked out of place in Oliver, but the rest was great.

I cried just about the whole way through

SansaryaAgain · 24/08/2015 08:18

I'm not an Eddie Redmayne fan but I thought he did a good job as Marius and has a surprisingly powerful voice. Samantha Barks was excellent as Eponine too, especially given she'd never acted in a film before. It's hard to me to judge Anne Hathaway's performance - I'm sure she was very good considering all the awards she won but I find her extraordinarily annoying these days! Hugh was excellent, especially during Valjean's Soliloquy but didn't have a high enough voice for Bring Him Home.

Ramin Karimloo is currently playing Valjean on Broadway, which I'd love to see. At the end of the soliloquy he rips open his shirt to reveal his six pack. That wouldn't be bad to see either... Grin

bikeandrun · 24/08/2015 08:24

Saw it in London last week, it was amazing. the actor who played javert was such a powerful singer but for some reason I find RCs Stars more moving. Cosette is annoying in all versions.

Mrsjayy · 24/08/2015 08:24
