Anyone watching this?

I've already spotted someone I bet is a MNetter! Step up and reveal yourself!

AndNowItsSeven · 19/08/2015 23:14

Yes he was an idiot , came across as lazy and a bit thick.

SuburbanRhonda · 19/08/2015 23:15

And shouty.

No wonder his wife spends 14 hours a day out of the house Grin

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 19/08/2015 23:20

The "stylist" was hilariously shit. I really enjoyed his fopping about Grin

SuburbanRhonda · 19/08/2015 23:22

Loved the idea that a coat with a removable collar is actually two coats [grin

SuburbanRhonda · 19/08/2015 23:23

One of my ] obviously came out in sympathy with the coat there Smile

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 19/08/2015 23:33

Yeah I proper roffled at "it's so wearable" and then "but of course it's actually two coats". "Yah it is. two. coats.".

No. No it is not. It is a hideous, unwearable coat where the colour comes off to make it a hideous, unwearable coat without a collar. Or one hideous coat to use the common terminology.

ImperialBlether · 19/08/2015 23:36

The woman who lived in the hotel was an entrepreneur. They didn't say what kind of business she was involved in.

BobandKate0 · 19/08/2015 23:49

Thanks for that Imperial,so can we assume the "non reveal " means she sells sex toys or owns a casino site or two ?
Nowt wrong with either, its just weird when they bang on about others jobs but miss out her.
Having worked in hotels,i can reveal that the staff at the hotel will be secretly sick of the sight of her after 3 months, there is only so much small talk one can deploy.

ImperialBlether · 20/08/2015 00:06

Oh I don't know, I didn't think of that. Given the type of documentary it was, I think they would've said if it was either of those two.

My cousin has a hotel in Devon and an old lady (no family) lived there all year round - it was cheaper than a nursing home. She had two rooms (one bedroom, one living room) and could make herself a cup of tea etc, but she'd go down to the bar at night and only had small portions. I think that sounds far preferable to a nursing home!

After watching it now I can easily say the only one that really annoyed me was the cocklodger.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 20/08/2015 00:16

They did say. It was something to do with Video loggers or something. Some sort of online pr or promotion thing.

Sallyhasleftthebuilding · 20/08/2015 00:54

No, she adverises with bloggers ... or sells it, gets a cut ...

JeffreysMummyisCross · 20/08/2015 07:55

Yes, she helped businesses market their products through bloggers, I think.

The thing that most smacked my gob about cocklodger was him going on a £6k holiday by himself. Paid for by his wife Shock

waitaminutenow · 20/08/2015 08:06

Im sorry but those of you commending the woman for living on 25k....she clearly stated they are in their overdraft constantly so I wouldn't say they are managing at all!!
Plus she works pt (so probably 16 hours etc) at a beauty place so why on earth do they need to pay out 2.5k on clubs!! It's a tad ridiculous if you ask me. She never stated it was for childcare reasons and I assume if it was she would have pointed that out (I know I would!)

BeatrixVBurgund · 20/08/2015 08:29

£500 overdrawn. And when you use your overdraft 'constantly', then it's just the same as having no more money in your account. You don't suddenly find an extra £500 from somewhere to even things out for the next month.

They spend £9 per child per week on after school activities. That is not a lot.

She is PR for blogger outreach? The hotel woman? Am surprised that pays so well!

waitaminutenow · 20/08/2015 09:02

Beatrix...it is a lot when you technically can't afford it.

But it still amazes me how people are justifying her spending but on the other hand begrudging a single successful woman spending her money how she feels.

SignoraStronza · 20/08/2015 09:19

I did laugh at cocklodging dad setting himself up in business as a career development consultant.

BeatrixVBurgund · 20/08/2015 09:44

Waitaminutenow
We all make assessments on what to spend our money on, and have different priorities. Enabling kids to take part in extra-curricular activities has a higher priority for me, as it really does make a difference in their day to day life.

I don't begrudge the woman who stays in the hotel - it's her money to spend. I do think that it's a terrible waste of money to stay in a hotel, but it's her decision.

What I think you did see was that some people spend for their own benefit, and some for the benefit of others, i.e. the status they felt they gained, the way it made them appear to others. The young mum was similar to some of the big spenders, in this way. They wanted to impress their friends.

The family with 4 kids didn't spend to show off. Their money went on things to actually help their kids. And if that means they have to cut back on other things, such as a holiday, that's their decision.

VivaLeBeaver · 20/08/2015 09:45

£9 per week per kid when you have 4 kids is a lot.

And she was very judgemental that mum about the food in the other family's fridge. She picked up a pack of something "two for £6" with the most shocked face going, "that's so expensive".

Well she'd be able to afford it if the kids weren't doing so many activities. Fair enough if that's what she chooses to prioritise her limited income in but I agree don't bleat about struggling.

Dd was watching it with me and muttered something about why have four kids when you only earn 25k. She kind of has a point. Though I accept there's a very remote chance maybe they used to have a much better income and have fallen on hard times.

Sallyhasleftthebuilding · 20/08/2015 09:56

I think a lot of people think kids are cheap till they grow! ... whilst i liked the eco people, if they worked harder, they could be more comfortable, a few odd jobs may do them, but a few more and they`d be living a nicer life.

UhtredOfBebbanburg · 20/08/2015 10:01

Their house was actually chock full of stuff and most of it appeared to be tat (apart from the flatscreen relies on the walls including in bedrooms). They also had a garden full of expensive equipment (those trampolines aren't cheap). I wouldn't have a problem with any of that if the woman hadn't been criticizing the other man for not wanting to buy clothes he neither needed nor wanted from the charity shop. The guy didn't appear to be wearing fancy label clothes. Why try and force him to buy stuff he didn't need just to make some kind of non existent point? There is plenty to question about his attitudes and spending habits (Starbucks progressive? Give me strength) but shopping online because you work long hours and not buying clothes you don't need from charity shops just to have the experience of spending money aren't two of them.

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 20/08/2015 13:02

It would be interesting to do a 'reverse' on here with regards to the 'cocklodger'. I mean if some chap came on here saying he worked 14 hour days and was fed up with his mum of two wife pissing away money on coffee and gadgets and how she was lazy for only bringing in ?10k herself he would be crucified!

waitaminutenow · 20/08/2015 13:20

Pangalactic.....I totally agree...people would accept the reverse situation so much faster!!

AndNowItsSeven · 20/08/2015 14:24

Beatrix they spend nearly £16 a week not £9 on activities. 2.5k for four dc over 40 school weeks a year.

waitaminutenow · 20/08/2015 14:35

Tbh their priority should be paying off the bloody overdraft! Even if they halved the afterschool club money they could pay it off in over a year.
