Where were the spinning flags???

Nice change from oz. sad they were both leaving their children and grandchildren behind.

Can't believe their uk rent was only £35 a week! Cayman will be a shock....

What will they do for money when they're too old to work?
Come back to Blighty, I guess!

Rivercam · 24/02/2015 22:09

I was amazed at £35 a week also. I was surprised they decided to go. They seem so family orientated. I think they will find the life lonely. I didn't really understand why they were going.

Did they actually go?

sunabroad · 25/02/2015 09:40

£35 rent?! How?

Horsemad · 25/02/2015 11:02

They did go apparently.

LegsOfSteel · 25/02/2015 12:09

Found the programme a bit dull and slow.
But I liked how they checked out car prices, mentioned the cost of petrol and the differences they would encounter - eg, the fact they liked take-aways and would probably have to change their diet if they moved. This is stuff they don't really mention on Wanted Down Under.

Davros · 25/02/2015 14:55

Ooh must look for this

susiella · 26/02/2015 10:25

Was Seychelles last night. The couple opted for going, but not yet.
They got some good info from a group of ex-pats regarding lifestyle changes. Eating out is very expensive, prohibitively so. Interestingly both couples so far didn't have children with them.
I like this programme. It's different from WDU but still with the 'time is running out' portents of doom voice overs.

LegsOfSteel · 26/02/2015 10:36

Again - a bit slow. I think they have too many shots of them driving around in the car. They could condense it down to 45 mins.

I thought last night's couple may find it a bit dull after a while - until they had children. They seemed to like going down the pub and that would be expensive (I think the guy said that his usual spend would only buy him 3 pints in Seychelles - why would your any more than that on a family night out anyway?)
The woman said if they rented a nice house their family would be over "all the time". Really? I think some people over estimate how much time/money their friends and family have.

Eminado · 01/03/2015 00:02

Just watched the barbados one. Found the man such a bully

CaptainCunt · 02/03/2015 12:39

Glad there's a thread on this! I find it weird that it's primetime tv when it seems so daytime to me.

Barbados man was pretty mean to his wife and son and seemed to be leaving another quite young son behind, though maybe he was older than he looked.

The expat pub in Phuket looked awful.

I like this programme because I always think I should move to one of these places, but these episodes really show that while the beach and sunshine is nice, there's actually nothing else there to do except hang out with over-tanned expats.

Rivercam · 02/03/2015 12:56

I watched the Seychelles one today. The family seemed quite settled on the UK, with good family and social life. for such a sociable couple, I think they will find Seychelles lonely, as they didn't appear to be the water sport sporty type.

I wonder if these couples ever look beyond the immediate next few years. Ie. What happens when they get old or I'll, etc.

iseenodust · 03/03/2015 19:20

Costa Rica looks fab for a holiday. But move your teenager to the rain forest ?!?

123upthere · 03/03/2015 19:35

Why choose a country without a shot of a clue about the language? Not even basics? This is cringeworthy viewing

123upthere · 03/03/2015 19:36

So people need a programme experience like this to appreciate their current lives/friends/connections and that grass isn't always greener?

Horsemad · 03/03/2015 19:53

Missed the start - what's the background, why on earth Costa Rica???!!

Is it me or do these people on this series seem a bit odd... ?!

Horsemad · 03/03/2015 19:56

Just why would you choose to move abroad when your teenager is at that critical point in their life?

Very selfish imo.

123upthere · 03/03/2015 19:58

Abandon your teenager then Sad

Hulababy · 03/03/2015 19:59

Not a chance I would choose to move so far away from my teenage child, with what - maybe seeing them once a year?!

iseenodust · 03/03/2015 20:00

This one is one where I want to see the 12 month follow up. Not convinced.

ssd · 03/03/2015 20:01

why on earth leave your teenager?

very strange

Horsemad · 03/03/2015 20:04

Can anyone enlighten me as to why they chose Costa Rica?

whitewineandchocolate · 03/03/2015 21:52

Bit late to this but glad to see its not just me, why on earth would you consider moving a teenager to Costa Rica, I think that is selfish of the parents.

ssd · 04/03/2015 07:44

and the way they all seemed delighted to be leaving the dd and her not seeing her parents for ages..and the granny delighted to be getting to look after the dd, all a bit wierd

Horsemad · 04/03/2015 12:18

This series has a very 'flat' feeling to it I think; kind of staged. I feel like the participants are acting.

Davros · 04/03/2015 17:02

Can't warm to this prog, much to my chagrin
