I often find a tv series will completely suck me and remembering it takes me back to that point in my life.

Friends - growing up in the 90s as a teenager.

Lost - it began as DH and I got married and ended literally on the day we completed our family. Annoyed about the ending but it signifies such an important time for us and we were addicted as a couple.

Dexter - mat leave, again the end devastated me :(

Just started Breaking Bad (no spoilers please) and know this will be another one. Well into Walking Dead too, it's the only thing we sit down together to watch nowadays.

Also Buffy - my Dad spent a small fortune - £30 FOR THREE VIDEOS - half a season - on my first Christmas living with him. We then went to WH Smith on Boxing Day which was one of the only shops open back then 12 years ago and they were BOGOF so he bought me the whole set from 1-5 (6 was my Christmas present) and we sat and marathonned the whole thing in the school holidays. I'd only started watching with S6 so we watched it for the first time together. Makes me a bit emotional as I'd finally managed to escape my abusive alcoholic coke head narc mother and live with him. It was absolute bliss that Christmas was and the first time I'd ever been made a fuss of.

As a child - Little House on the Prairie Blush

In my 20s - Friends and Sex & the City (still watch them now)

Early motherhood - ER and an Aussie one called The Secret Life of Us

My favourite ever was Brothers & Sisters! I still miss that show and invested far too much in the characters! I sobbed when it finished Blush

LittleBairn · 16/02/2015 22:18

Buffy My BFF and I watched this together, every single episode we were obssesed. She died young and I've never wanted to rematch without her.

Six feet under one of the edit TV shows every, brilliant ending.

Lost I loved most of lost but hated the ending. I was really bitter Blush at the amount of years I wasted on it which is why I now won't commit to watching a tv series episode by episode I wait fr the Boxsets.

LittleBairn · 16/02/2015 22:18

Best not edit.

Howard's Way

ER...amazing writing, characters, story lines. Went on for 13 seasons but each one as good as the last.

Damages.. Absolutely gripping, terrifying, edge of your seat drama. Glenn close outstanding.

The wire...like nothing I've ever seen before or since. Almost like a documentary. Shocking, gripping, every episode like a film.

Ray donovan...very, very different storyline, again very unique. Set in L.A which I loved. The 'lightest' probably of my list but I loved the main character. Oh and he is so very, very sexy!

Frasier..just good, laugh out loud, clever, clever comedy. I can still watch it now and guffaw with laughter. Lasted 11 seasons. Just brilliant.

Grassier used to be on the same night as friends and quantum leap! That was my night sorted as a teen.

Watched ep 4-6 of Breaking Bad S1 and now completely invested. DH has been thinking about it at work and we both can't wait to watch it again tonight. Smile

Friends reminds me of my first year at university. Me and my flatmate used to watch it in her room with a whole packet of biscuits each to devour Grin

SATC reminds me of my final year at uni. It had just started and although I look back at it now as a late thirties mum and think it is quite shit, really, I loved it as an early twenties girl about town.

I binge-watched The Wire compulsively on DVD when expecting my second baby. I had some really vivid pregnant sex dreams about Stringer Bell Grin.

marshmallowpies · 17/02/2015 17:42

Cracker was on in the summer holidays after my A Levels. Staying up late on hot summer nights to watch it is a strong memory - especially the episodes with Robert Carlyle.

This Life was university years: we all sneered at them but secretly wanted to be like them.

The Killing and the West Wing are the things DH and I watched in the last few years so memories of pregnancy and early years of parenting are all bound up in those. House of Cards too.

I was too young to watch Dennis Potter and Edge of Darkness, etc so the other series which was of my era that had a solar effect on me was State of Play. James McAvoy, Bill Nighy, Kelly Macdonald, John Simm, completely outstanding cast.

marshmallowpies · 17/02/2015 17:46

Similar, not solar effect!

Also never saw Our Friends in the North as I was in my first year at uni in a northern town and had no telly!

Robin of Sherwood - watched it as a teenager; the first TV series I got properly obsessed with, and I still have a nostalgic crush on Michael Praed.

Buffy - mine and DH's series. It began just as we got together and we watched every episode together as they were broadcast. It was the first time we realised how much we loved the same sort of TV.

Wotsitsareafterme · 24/03/2015 20:39

Our friends in the north. I watched it with dm in my late teens and o nought the DVDs and watched it with exh who loved it. Reminds me of a time exh and I had a great intellectual relationship Hmm

Birds of a feather I watched with dm too and the theme song breaks my heart still with the footage of the little girls running around. I hoped dds will be close forever.

Friends of course though I was 23 I think when the final episode was broadcast. My bf at the time wrote a piece about it in the guardian. It all felt quite zeighgeisty.
