It's back on Thursday! here. No details of contestants yet. How many men this time? Any?

Ten sewers, six weeks, can't wait!

(Can't think of another word for sewers at the moment, wish I could!)

Just caught up on episode three.

I love love love the walk away dress! I've never made clothes in my life but I'll learn just so I can make one like it.

And very excited about corsets next week.

I love Ryan, and Lorna. Also agree how nice it is that that Neil made te to help Mark when he was stuck. Aren't they a lovely bunch?! Think it was the right decision for Neela to go, she was sweet though.

SoupDragon · 21/02/2015 13:01

I'm meant to be making a pair of lined pencil pleat curtains, not fiddling with attachments that don't fit my machine :o

Roussette · 21/02/2015 13:33

I won't be able to watch corsets till Saturday as I'm away but will catch up with your comments and the programme on my return!

Just caught up as was watching Eastenders when it was on this week.

Lorna did fantastically well. I also think she benefited hugely from picking the right sheer fabric, as the black was much more forgiving than some of the paler colours.

I was disappointed no one made a dirndl or lederhosen-style outfit with the curtains. A missed opportunity there.

EATmum · 22/02/2015 08:24

Finally caught up with this week's episode. Ryan is definitely getting better each week. It's a shame - in our family we all have to choose someone to back in the first episode, so I really need Neil to win - but Lorna and Ryan are really good too. Fab series.

Love this programme. On a whim I bought the IKEA sewing machine and am very pleased with it. Only £49.95! So simple to use and they have put great tutorials on You Tube.

I am someone who lived in terror of the sewing machines at school. I had a huge fear of "winding the bobbin up", so was surprised to find myself up and sewing a lined drawstring bag within minutes.

So if you do want to have a go and not spend much I highly recommend it.

SoupDragon · 22/02/2015 09:45

I think that it is easier when you are left to your own devices with no one to see what mistakes you make. Far more relaxing than being in a room full of critical peers at school!

SoupDragon · 22/02/2015 09:46

For example, absolutely no one knows that I cut the first lot of fabric for my curtains without doubling the measurements to allow for gathering...

Allofaflumble · 22/02/2015 10:44

Totally agree Soup. I am the same with any class I attend. Very slow to catch on to instructions and am usually the one who does not "get it" then when at home the penny drops and I can do it fine.

I much prefer learning on my own for this reason. They would not let me anywhere near the Sewing Bee!

Back to the IKEA sewing machine for a minute. A chap has taken it apart on YT to show how well made it is with metal inner parts. It is a tad funky to look at but
very compact and light. My other machine came from Tchibo. Thank goodness they stopped trading as my house was being filled with gadgets!

EATmum · 22/02/2015 11:49

I agree too. I keep thinking about doing an evening class but then I think that I actually like working through things on my own and being quite anti social when I'm sewing. But I do think there are tips and guidance that you'd pick up on a class that I'm probably missing out on.

Greymalkin · 22/02/2015 17:33

< waves to Allo > I also have the IKEA Sy sewing machine! I love it and bought it on a whim. It's a lovely machine, very straight forward to use. But I agree with you re the colours of it...funky indeed...

Allofaflumble - have a look on this thread"..

Grey my next project is to sew on some curtain header tape. I got a lovely pair of retro curtains from the charity shop. One side, the tape has been broken. Hopefully I can manage to sew straight!

JS thanks for the link, I will have a good read of that tomorrow. I still have a waffle maker unopened in our cupboard under the stairs!

Oldraver · 23/02/2015 16:23

Soup...OH says ythey are all hemmers, some of then rolled hem.

I cut some voiles and made the mistake of doing them 189cm rather than 198cm....

I have cut loose covers for a 2.5 rather than 3 seater...that was at work and I did get told off

SoupDragon · 23/02/2015 17:09

Thanks :)

Its a shame they won't fit my machine. Although the only one I know how to use is the one I didn't photograph as it's just the little guide arm to help you keep straight :o

KarinMurphy · 26/02/2015 13:54

I've finally caught up with last week, just in time for this week's.

So excited that they are making corsets. I've made three and am just about to start a fourth. They take me forever so I'm dying to see how they do it in such a restricted time.

SoupDragon · 26/02/2015 20:02

Why are they losing two contestants this week??

PigeonPie · 26/02/2015 20:04

Two people! Oh no!

SunnyL · 26/02/2015 20:04

Right Mumsnetters - where does this pattern come from?

Oh - and are they mad - 4 freaking hours to make a corset?

SoupDragon · 26/02/2015 20:06

Why on earth has Ryan made corsets before?! :o

AnneEyhtMeyer · 26/02/2015 20:09

This must be enormously difficult. Quite a step up from kids' fancy dress and wrap dresses.

ElizaCBennett · 26/02/2015 20:10

I get so nervous for them!

SunnyL · 26/02/2015 20:11

Why is Amanda making bias binding! Its takes me ages to make bias binding

RitaOrange · 26/02/2015 20:22

Patrick is wearing a kilt [swoon]

dillite · 26/02/2015 20:23

Evening! I am 20min behind as usual.

Corsets look terrifying!
