I mean, galloping the horse, the billowing shirts, the cheroots - & the bloody dogs on the motorbike!
What a pretentious tw*t.

Having said that - I do love some of his 'work'.

Although Bord Failte(the Irish Tourist board) won't thank me for this, annd lots of ireland is "classless and everyone does really say hello to you", there's still plenty of poverty, drug abuse and differant levels of wealth. I love my home country, but I do get a bit annoyed at the Oirish being portrayed as "fluffy".

I AM Queen Maeve BTW

Crikey, you do have a different opinion of him to me! I thought he came across really well. I was a bit suspicious of his obsessive desire to find Irish links in his family tree - and Lo! his great great great great great great great (whatever) grandmother is from County Cork. It made me wonder if we all looked long enough whether we all couldn't find some Irish ancestry in us (or wherever else we wanted to be linked to) but apart from that, and his disgusting smoking habit, and his irritating need to tke his dogs with him wherever he went, I thought he came across as rather lovely - good sense of humour and bright personality - not at all Charles Ryder. I don't know why but when I heard he was going to be a subject for this programme I was instantly interested in what he would find out and he didn't let me down. Perhaps I found it interesting because I know a lot about 19th century Irish and British political history.
