Just watched an episode of Shetland, that was really good! Have any of you watched it?

MadamedeChevreuse · 23/01/2015 22:08

How can you still be at work comtesse? Shock

ww, I remember wenches talking about Shetland I think (Mavis?) and saying it was good. I didn't watch it though.

muffin if youre still there, just interested, what do you think of s2? Its caught a load of flak so far on general tinternet though we are in two minds staunchly supportive.

Was that the one with val kilmer? I remember liking him in that a lot.

MadamedeChevreuse · 23/01/2015 22:10

Ah no. It was Willow.

Cinnamoncookie · 23/01/2015 22:12

No, Val Kilmer was in Willow. (Another one of my panto cast was in that !)

MadamedeChevreuse · 23/01/2015 22:14

Is warwick davis in every single film ever made that requires a small person? And how come he doesn't age?

MavisGrind · 23/01/2015 22:15

I haven't seen Shetland although I did remark when it was on that I liked Douglas Henshall the music from the trailer. Also, of course, Mavis Grind is an actual Shetland place so full marks to Madame

I have never actually been to Shetland.

MadamedeChevreuse · 23/01/2015 22:19

I just thought mavis grind was a comedy name tbh...

Hmm. It might have been letus then. especially if it had a hot man in it

Cinnamoncookie · 23/01/2015 22:19

Pretty much Madame, and he also now runs the largest agency in the UK representing small people. (And very big people 7'+ !)

Muffin's thread blaming us for her pervery is here

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 23/01/2015 22:19

He's a bit of a dish Wink

Madame I've really enjoyed this season - it's slightly less formulaic so far. At least half the episodes of S1 were 'one of the Musketeers falls in love with a woman, woman dies or has to leave France/him, Musketeer is sad'. Not that I didn't love all of it, just saying is all.
I particularly enjoyed Dog removing Athos's scarf, may have rewound that a few times. I knew as soon as I saw it that it would be this programme's Sherlock hair ruffle moment Wink
I'm enjoying Rochefort as a replacement to the dear departed Cardinal [RIP] He's got just enough nastiness mixed in with campy pantomime villain to get get away with it.
The only thing that bothers me really is the horses are all so, so wrong they're riding carriage horses

Flopsy28 · 23/01/2015 22:22

Evening all. Thanks for the Wine mave, much needed. upper KS2 is a scary prospect but you'll soon get into it.

hannah, loved the radio comms, it is so wench.

Hi muffin, are you sticking around?

I've forgotten everything else as my head's up my arse . My teeth hurt in that horrid sinus way. I've drugged up now in bed and going to sleep. Night all.

MadamedeChevreuse · 23/01/2015 22:24

cinn are any of the panto people whose careers are, lets say, not what they were, bitter? Do they ever throw a strop and say things like, "The director of Labyrinth would never have spoken to me like that!"?

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 23/01/2015 22:25

Is there a special kind of horses for carriages? Confused

MadamedeChevreuse · 23/01/2015 22:29

Ooh muffin, refreshing to have a new take on things. Glad you like s2. And now you mention it, yes, there were a lot of storylines like you said in s1.

The horse criticism is a bit over my head but no doubt you have a point there.

I really like Rochy. He totally cracks me up. Im not sure if he's supposed to, but he does.

SparklesRedHotChileLeather · 23/01/2015 22:30

WW errrr.......that's what i thought.... Grin

Cinnamoncookie · 23/01/2015 22:30

Not those particular actors, Madame, they were lovely. We did have one actor who was way up his own arse, and on the second day of tech one of the technicians asked him point blank why if he was such an amazing actor and so much more important than everyone else, was he doing panto in Midsizevenueneartobutnotinbigcity ?

Answer came there none. Tbh, most of us are glad of the work - it's a killer doing 12-show weeks, but there's not much else available over Christmas, and generally we have a good laugh. (See my photos on FB)

MadamedeChevreuse · 23/01/2015 22:30

Its horses for courses, innit ww.

muffinino82 · 23/01/2015 22:33

Flopsy yes, I've been lurking for a few weeks, these threads have been gold. I was far too amused reading to post Grin

Wicked yes, the black ones they use most of the time are Friesians, bred for driving not riding. They look all wrong as their head carriage is very high, which looks fancy being driven but odd when ridden. There are a few other types bred for driving such as the Hackney, the Cleveland Bay and the Gelderlander. They just look wrong being ridden to my eye because their gates and head carriage are high and showy for driving.
Porthos seems to have a riding horse though, I'm assuming he's such a great lump of muscle that the Friesians couldn't take his bulk. He is rather...large Wink

MadamedeChevreuse · 23/01/2015 22:33

Id love to see an actor have a full on christian bale-style meltdown. Itd be so funny.

MadamedeChevreuse · 23/01/2015 22:36

Well in that case muffin, and because of all the detailed horse knowledge, pull up a stool, have a pint of randy goatherder, and state your boffing order!

muffinino82 · 23/01/2015 22:37

Sorry, that got a bit ranty Blush They just seem to be used for everything in film and tv and it looks so wrong clutches pearls They do look flashy, generally have very good, placid natures and are very trainable so that's probably why. Don't get me started on how wrong the horses in War Horse were, though

Cinnamoncookie · 23/01/2015 22:40

Don't get me started on War Horse the film vs the stage show ... Grin Grin

muffinino82 · 23/01/2015 22:41

really am cleaning my boots, it's a filthy business

Ahem, boot polishing order, from top to bottom: Athos is first in line, every time. He won me over from that very first scene of him waking and getting ready, coupled with the strut to the garrison, wow

MadamedeChevreuse · 23/01/2015 22:48

Well muffin youve picked the longest and most violent queue, so good luck with that. If you ever want a look in, I recommend using the nunchucks which youll find in livias sex dungeon, but be careful down there as the floors usually a bit slippy.

WickedWenchOfTheNorth · 23/01/2015 22:48

Sparks Grin

Madame I don't even know what that means, sorry BlushGrin

Muffin Athos you say, well good luck with that Grin
