Watching now. I think it's pretty good

I wouldn't let my 8 year old watch it, even though it raised a lot of issues and would help her to be more aware, it was just too graphic in places and lots of bad language, feel like better for teenage children maybe?

piggychops · 15/01/2015 23:19

No I would say teenage.

RJnomore · 15/01/2015 23:26

I wouldn't let my 10yo watch it.

NetballHoop · 15/01/2015 23:26

I wouldn't feel happy letting an under 14 watch it. But I may be a bit prudish.

Squtternutbaush · 15/01/2015 23:28

Gamerchick people discuss TV shows all the time on here updating as they go through the threads, probably best not to click on a thread tonight about a program you don't want to know about until tomorrow Confused

Its basically a darker version of the NSPCC "Alex's willy" which I will be showing my 8 year old but I think the show is too adult and would probably just go over his head tbh. Thankfully though unless its a bloody Stampy Minecraft video he is not interested in the internet haha.

BOFster · 16/01/2015 00:19

Maisie Williams was brilliant in it. She could totally play a younger version of Sheridan Smith in something. I actually thought I'd seen her before, but I hadn't.

Romeorodriguez · 16/01/2015 03:16

Yes! Thank you, that's who she reminded me of. Good little actor, definitely someone to watch out for in the future

hildasmuriel · 16/01/2015 05:56

Maisie Williams is Arya in Game of Thrones. Brilliant in that too.

Littleturkish · 16/01/2015 06:20

I saw a bit- agree with pp about the long CEOPS film comment.

Can someone summarise the end for me, please?

guineapiglet · 16/01/2015 09:00

I will be watching this again with both my teens, it really is that important and I think all High Schools should make sure all Year 9 and above pupils should watch it.. It tackles the problem in a way that teens will understand, very powerful. Maisie was brilliant, very well acted.
At the end, she is able to take back control in her own way, and asks for help despite having her own reputation outed and ridiculed. Lots of important issues covered, mainly friendship and how important it is for teenagers to be seen play 'the virtual 'game.
We lost a lovely friend to cyber bullying last yearSad, he was just 18., so if this can help anyone struggling with this, it was worth making the programme.

BeanSpr0ut · 16/01/2015 10:40

I liked the strong message the episode gave. I hope it makes people think twice about the things they say to people online.

JustDanceAddict · 16/01/2015 11:02

I watched it. It made a very strong point, and Maisie was amazing, even though the hacking was 'exaggerated'. I wouldn't let my 12 yr old watch it. It would freak her out too much, even though the message is valid. She knows a lot about Internet safety from us & school, but my 10 yr old is a different matter and when it comes to him having more online access I will be monitoring very carefully!!! He could be the bullied & bully as he is easily led, but also suffers from anxiety!!!

Theimpossiblegirl · 16/01/2015 11:14

I'll be watching it with my girls tonight after watching it alone last night. It carries a very important message but I would be careful with younger ones watching it- you don't want to scare them away from the internet, just inform them so that they can use it safely.

Squtternutbaush · 16/01/2015 12:11

Did anyone else get the impression that it was perhaps geared more towards the parent of a potential victim than the potential victim themselves.

As I've said my son is only 8 and not interested in the internet yet so perhaps I related to it differently but it definitely struck a chord with me about teaching internet safety and the far reaching effect that cyberbullying can have, I mean I knew there was a dark side to the internet obviously and was wary about child access before bit now I understand how big an impact it can have.

5Foot5 · 16/01/2015 13:23

I thought it was pretty good too.

I mainly watched because of Maisie Williams as Arya is one of my favourite characters in GoT. But I thought it a fairly powerful performance.

A few interesting message in there. One thing I suppose about just being careful about what you put out there about yourself. Also I thought it was an interesting perspective that the main character was a cyberbully without thining of herself as such. That alone kight make some youngsters stop to think before they troll.

cogitosum · 16/01/2015 13:33

It had shadows of an inspector calls about it.

I didn't post spoilers just that I liked the ending. The part about her being a cyberbully was in the trailers so not really a spoiler.

OP posts:
fortifiedwithtea · 16/01/2015 13:49

I was expecting an Inspector Calls ending, glad it wasn't as it would have lost its impact for me.

I thought it was very powerful, got its message across to teens yet at the same time informative to parents how many ways cyber bullying can happen.

spiderlight · 16/01/2015 14:45

I was gripped. Just at the real edge-of-your-seat bit we had a power cut and were plunged into pitch darkness and I screamed the house down! Amazing performance by Maisie Williams and I hope my teenage niece and nephew watched it.

cricketballs · 16/01/2015 17:20

I was glued to the screen, story, acting etc was stunning. Whilst it seems to be exaggerated they have taken a range of stories, i.e. trolls etc in order to showcase the effects.

The most interesting (which I didn't think the trailer showed) was that she was convinced she wasn't a bully and that you should expect trolls if you post online.

I teach ICT in secondary and as a department we want to show it to KS4 and above (we will have to get permission due to the language, but that is how the majority of teens talk even in the naice school I work in, most parents don't hear them)

Wiifitmama · 16/01/2015 19:24

I watched this today on iplayer and was also glued to it. I want my year 9 DS to watch it. Dh is not sure but he didn't watch it so is just going on my description. What do you all think?

TheFirstOfHerName · 16/01/2015 19:47

Great acting by MW, and a successful building up of tension.

TheFirstOfHerName · 16/01/2015 19:51

I felt it was fine for DS1 (Year 10).

There was an image of self-harm and references to suicide.

Year 9? Depends on the child.

TheFirstOfHerName · 16/01/2015 19:52

I think it would be a valuable resource for KS4 PHSE.

ZebraZeebra · 16/01/2015 20:06

I thought it was good, if slightly over-egged.

I don't understand the revelation of who it was doing it though - if her guess was correct?

Rollergirl1 · 16/01/2015 20:34

Zebra: The revelation was that you think the person was doing it to teach her a lesson when in actual fact he/she was a cyber bully too and was just toying with her.

I thought it was really good but agree it was a little over-egged and some bits didn't seem realistic. But the point was to give a very clear message which it did very well.
