Watching some s1 today so many faces goneHmm

CheerfulYank · 06/12/2014 21:27

I have no idea Figs! I was no fan of Beth but surely she'd have gone for the neck at least.

limitedperiodonly · 06/12/2014 22:05

I thought Beth did go for the neck.

BTW CheerfulYank can you please remind me of the phrase - it's 'something wars', you know, the Beth V Carol thing you were talking about? I've forgotten the name for it. I can scroll back but I'm lazy. thx as the teens txt

At least that will stop now. I bet there's loads of gnashing of teenage orthodontic braces.

There's a Guardian blog that is so bad it's good.

I miss lots of stuff but when I read her blog, my faith in my own lucidity and attention to detail is restored.

I wanted to link to the first one but I can't find it. Possibly because it was so full of mistakes that it's been quietly deleted.

I now read it avidly to see how many mistakes she makes. The comments bitch about her, but she never comes back to answer them. The blogger she's usurped also chips in, but diplomatically,. He nobly corrects mistakes but never bitches.

The latest ones have had people saying: 'Dear Guardian, I at least watch the show. Can you please sack her and give me a go?'

Everyone on this thread would do a much better job.

CheerfulYank · 06/12/2014 22:35

I thought she went directly for the shoulder but I only saw it briefly.

The shipping wars! :o To "ship" someone is to want them in a romantic relationship. Goes back to the will they/won't they days of Mulder and Scully on Xfiles.

The reaction on twitter from the Bethyl fans was amusing... "you guys I'm 19 but I'm shaking and sobbing and my mom had to hold me" "no Bethyl means no babies" "I'm not gunna watch anymore bcuz Daryl will never get over it and I can't stand to see him sad". etc etc.

Also they seem to think if they protest enough by sending spoons (spoons!) to the producers they will somehow write it as "all a dream". Hmm Bless 'em.

I actually think it's a very interesting look at what our society tells women...the sweet, pretty princess didn't get Happily Ever After?! But...but...

CheerfulYank · 06/12/2014 22:38

Also apparently Melissa McBride is sleeping with someone In Charge because "omg there was so much foreshadowing of Bethyl and every1 noo it wud happen then she dies?! This is MMB's and all her hateful fans fault. She was sposed to die n got it changed sumhow"

Jesus wept. Hmm

limitedperiodonly · 06/12/2014 23:30

CY I still have the episode so will report as to the exact point of contact of the scissors.

Sometime tomorrow. Okay? Smile

Thanks for reminding me about what 'shipping wars' was called btw. I'd never heard of it until you mentioned it and then I forgot.

It's mad.

I remember aspects of being 19. It was 30 years ago, btw.

Not only wouldn't I have fancied Norman Reedus, because he would be middle aged to my teenage self, but I wouldn't have even known what TWD was because I'd have been going out and having fun.

For instance, I never watched a single episode of Moonlighting with Cybill Shephard and Bruce Willis because on a mid-80 Friday night I wasn't stuck in front of the telly.

I hear it was quite good.

anonacfr · 07/12/2014 10:17

There's a really annoying poster on Previously TV who keeps posting that people hated Beth because they hate teenage girls and they should be ashamed of themselves for slating the character and the actress.

Sorry but the actress was weak- she never managed to convey that Madonna-like sense of innocence and hope the writers kept telling us she was meant to embody.
Also she was totally out of place in the show (and not in a that's-the-whole-point kind of way). After all the shit they have been through she was wafting along in a bizarrely detached way, not sad about losing her dad and her sister (Maggie wasn't the only one who never mentioned her missing sibling).

Teenagers can be irritating. Look at Coral! But he has shown growth and character development in a fitting way for the show. I'm rather fond of him now.

To me the issue with Beth was that she seemed to have wondered in from a totally different show and everyone acted out of character when she was around.

Cripes limited that Guardian blog is badly written. Normally their TV recaps are good - they have a good Mad Men one.

I am OK with Beth being killed off, she wasn't that interesting a character, but I thought that the way she was killed off was a little pointless. I can't see why she would stab Dawn as it was bound to start off gunfire thereby risking her friends lives as well. I didn't think it ran true to her character to take a risk like that.

limitedperiodonly · 07/12/2014 16:42

There's a very good Game of Thrones one on the Guardian site too Ida. I think the blogger is called Sarah Hughes.

I don't contribute, but am thinking of signing up as a fan, because Danielle Henderson's TWD reviews are so inept I want to preserve them. Because it's the Guardian I imagine she's not being paid.

IdaBlankenship · 07/12/2014 16:57

Yes, I like the GoT one too, the recaps used to make me laugh. This one is just a badly worded recap - there is no analysis, no interesting facts that the watcher may have missed. Crucially though, she just doesn't write well.
You'd think there would be a Guardian journo who watches TWD, who could knock out a good recap for them.

limitedperiodonly · 07/12/2014 17:10

The thing is, now Beth has gone, and I was perfectly okay with that, I don't want anyone else to go.

Mind you, Rosita, GI Ginger, Eugene, the sister of the gay woman whose names I forget... They could go.

Maggie too, but that would make Glenn sad. But hell, Sasha and Tyreese are sad.

I might keep Fr Gabriel. I loved Bob.

CheerfulYank · 07/12/2014 17:45

I thought the gay woman (Tara's) sister was already gone?

limitedperiodonly · 07/12/2014 17:55

Yes, Tara's sister has gone. Tara could go too.

EpitomeOfFrump · 07/12/2014 17:59

I like Tara she can be quite funny, I would rather Maggie went. Apparently Glen will be featured more prominently in the next half of the series.

PhaedraIsMyName · 07/12/2014 18:06

Not really relevant to the plot but I'm sure you won't object to seeing this.

TAINTED MEAT!!!!! Walking Dead part 2
IdaBlankenship · 07/12/2014 18:17

I like Maggie and Glenn, I want them both to stay. Not keen on Tyreese or Rosita though, and if Abraham and Eugene die in some heroic way saving everyone else, that would be OK.

Phaedra that is a bit distracting

EpitomeOfFrump · 07/12/2014 18:39

Tyreese in this series is a bit meh, Tyreese from series 3 was definitely the bloke for me!

limitedperiodonly · 07/12/2014 19:02

CY Beth stabbed Dawn in the right shoulder and Dawn shot her in the face.

Daryl shot Dawn.

limitedperiodonly · 07/12/2014 19:17

Left shoulder

EpitomeOfFrump · 07/12/2014 21:32

Apologies if this has been mentioned before but I just came across an article about Steven Yeun being in The Big Bang Theory. He played the original roommate of Sheldon in a flashback episode. He looks so young but was filmed in 2010 the same year TWD started. Mind you Rick looks a lot older now with the longer locks, surely at least one hairdresser survived the ZA, those hairdressing scissors are sharp they would be a most effective weapon.
Must look into where the nearest hairdressing wholesale place is in relation to my local B+Q.

IdaBlankenship · 07/12/2014 21:39

Glenn in season 1 does look incredibly young - apparently a ZA is quite ageing Grin

EpitomeOfFrump · 07/12/2014 21:52

Grey greasy unkempt hair is ageing (must book in to get roots done!). Which brings up another question Daryl has obviously been at the grecian 2000 so why can't he wash his face or is it so dirty from running hair dye? And Abraham, surely no one's hair is that shade of orange in real life so how has he been doing his roots?
Disclaimer I am ill, stuck in bed and very bored. Apologies for waffling.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 08/12/2014 22:43

Limited my 19 year old DD is an avid WD fan, despite -probably being off her face- going out for a few shandies on a Friday night. There's this thing nowadays called SKY Plus.

I have just questioned her closely, and she said she would go out with Darryl, "But only in a Zombie Apocalypse, not if I met him down the pub or something".

PTAblues · 09/12/2014 13:15

Nooooo not whole half series of Glenn. That would finish me off. He's called Glaiked Glenn in this house. How I hate his inability to make any sort of decision. I quite liked him in S1 but then he went all wet. If I was allowed to choose they would be allowed to kill these lot in the next half series Glenn, Sasha, Karl, Tyreese, Maggie. All I'd have to do is send them off in a bus to met their inevitable doom.

On a side note I hate how Daryl flicks his hair out of his eyes in a sort of affected teenage girl way. It reminds me of Jai'me fromSummer Heights High.

CheerfulYank · 10/12/2014 02:18

I just laughed much too hard thinking of Daryl as Ja'mie. :o

That's how I feel Tinkly...all these teenage girls screaming and sobbing over Norman Reedus...who'd look twice if he was the grease monkey down the road??
