SCD 2014 #3: When we hopefully lose some of the ones who can't actually dance...

Carrying on from thread two.

I thought we might be a bit short on space on the old thread (especially if somebody we like goes!) so here's a shiny new one for Hallowe'en results onwards Smile

To be fair, I think botox actually originated as a medical intervention for excess sweating long before it was used cosmetically for wrinkles.

DH's weekly trope re Strictly is a careful examination of what Ola is wearing Hmm . Our theory is that she wears less and less each week, so that if she ends up in the final she is only wearing 3 post-it notes (presumably by which stage he'll be standing in front of the telly like Vic Reeves rubbing his legs Hmm Hmm)

Disagree re Sunetra, really don't see her as a winner: love how cheerful and enthusiastic she is, but I think she has probably peaked. Jake could do with a good week this week - was jaw dropping in week 2, then a bit ho-hum since then, bit like a better version of Ashley Taylor Dawson 1 or 2 series ago, who i would have predicted in the top 3 in the 1st couple of weeks. Not surprised if that is true he went to stage school - you simply can't dance like that just "off the shelf".

'DH's weekly trope re Strictly is a careful examination of what Ola is wearing '

Same in my house SonorousBip! Grin I usually tell him she'll be wearing the other half of it next week, and I get a Hmm in response

digerd · 06/11/2014 17:06

Think Jake is doing the Rhumba this week, notoriously difficult for the male celebs to get high marks and the viewers votes.

Ian mentioned as did Karen Hardy that Frankie's foot and legwork needs improving.

ppeatfruit · 06/11/2014 17:13

Yes I heard that as well digerd it's nice to hear a bit of constructive criticism about the 'perfect' Frankie. I noticed that Darcey was not keen on her waltz which was interesting.

Jake may well be very good at the rumba, we'll see.

SmellyFartado · 06/11/2014 18:33

Although entertaining this year (apart from boring Alison), I feel a bit cheated that they have slebs that clearly have had some previous dance experience - Frankie and Pixie and I think Jake. I can't really warm to the first two so wouldn't vote for them and wonder if viewers will also feel a bit meh about them also meaning that they go before the final irrespective of the Saturday leader board.

Judy has improved, not hugely but there is a big difference from the start of the series.

I despise the Essex show but I quite like Mark. I love Caroline and Sunetra and hope they go far

rubyflipper · 07/11/2014 14:28

I don't think Jake has has any dance training - he said so on Twitter.

ppeatfruit · 07/11/2014 14:55

That is difficult to believe though rubyflipper. What about Caroline? she's very good too does she say she's never had dance training ?

ppeatfruit · 07/11/2014 14:56

Mark is speaking on R2 ATM. I like him a lot he seems so genuine.

OohOod · 07/11/2014 15:40

I thought Olas clothes were bigger than they used to be

GrouchyKiwi · 07/11/2014 18:48

Judy's segment on ITT tonight was really sweet. They all seem to love her.

rubyflipper · 07/11/2014 18:51

Caroline Flack started out as a professional dancer but has kept that quiet.

rubyflipper · 07/11/2014 19:02

Actually, can I retract that?

Caroline has had dance training www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Strictly-Come-Dancing-star-Caroline-Flack-cheered/story-22886752-detail/story.html

But I couldn't say for sure if Caroline danced professionally after that - although I remember a poster on an earlier thread who said that she had.

Saker · 07/11/2014 19:33

Caroline did the series about wheelchair dancing. She has tried to pass it off as a documentary but I watched it at the time and it was done in the style of Strictly with 4 couples, one able-bodied celebrity and a non-celebrity in a wheelchair. Each week they had to learn a dance and one couple was eliminated. Judging panel included James and Ola and the dancers were trained by Brian and Kristina. Caroline Flack and her partner were the winners and they went on to represent the UK in the world wheelchair dancing championships (or similar). For that they had quite intensive training for a few weeks. I know that posture and stuff would be different but she would have had a massive headstart in that she would know all the basic footwork and figures and probably is able to pick everything up a lot quicker.

I understand why they have some competitors with former training because they can need some celebrities who are going to be a good standard. I think they have gone a bit too far including Caroline really, but they seem to have done a good job of keeping it quiet.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 07/11/2014 20:46

For the world wheelchair championships she'd have done waltz, quickstep and samba - debutante (the category she'd have danced) is a three dance.

Well thanks ruby and Saker I DID wonder, that means there are 3 trained women dancers and I'm not sure about the number of trained male contestants but they seem to be very good as well.

I agree that they have gone too far with their trained contestants in this one.

CocktailQueen · 08/11/2014 12:43

Has anyone seen the article in the daily mail today saying that Steve backshall has complained to the bbc that ola is bullying him?? The bbc has arranged a permanent chaperone for them! Daily mail is very dismissive of Steve's moaning, but OMG!

See www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2826130/Strictly-Ola-bullying-moans-Steve-Backshall-s-dived-Great-White-sharks-wrestled-poisonous-snakes.html

yesbutnobut · 08/11/2014 12:47

Oh dear i was just reading that Steve has made a complaint against Ola who has allegedly been bullying him! They're to be accompanied at all times by a chaperone. Poor Steve! Must be hard when you see the other couples getting on so well. Or do we think he should 'man up'?!

CocktailQueen · 08/11/2014 12:48

Um. Not sure. It won't do his image much good. Wil be interesting to see what happens tonight! Won't do their dancing much good, though!!

DaisyFlowerChain · 08/11/2014 12:49

Saw the article earlier. If it had been written the other way round there would have been uproar ie man bullying woman but the whole thing is awful just because he is a male. If it's true, well done on him for standing up and saying something as it can't have been easy.

ppeatfruit · 08/11/2014 13:13

OOOOH poor Steve I [heart] him. Ola is mean Angry.

ThursdayLast · 08/11/2014 13:27

She has always made a fun thing out of her sergeant major style hasn't she? Perhaps she's gone too far? Or perhaps Hollins just went along with it out of the fear??
She IS married to James bit-of-a-prick Jordan after all...

yesbutnobut · 08/11/2014 14:19

I agree daisy it's a sexist article - mocking him for talking to management when, if it's true, he's actually doing the right thing. Orla has said she's leaving after this series and is probably sore about James, so she may well be taking it out on Steve a bit.

member · 08/11/2014 14:30

Steve seemed really quite flat/down on himself on IT2 about making a "hash" of the dance whereas Ola appeared to be comforting him by squeezing his hands & talking about having fun being the important thing Hmm

citruslemon · 08/11/2014 15:02

No Claudia this Saturday, hope her little girl gets well soon.

Sparklingbrook · 08/11/2014 15:21

YY citrus. It sounds really horrible the more I read. I hope all will be well in time.
