The DDs have got really into this over the holidays and I just don't get it.

I'm a geek, married to a geek, who has spent large amounts of time surrounded by other geeks and non.of them were that one dimensional and stupid.

Oh and they had far better hair, beards and eccentric dress sense, big bang is really tame.

Have you tried watching from series one episode one? if not, you may grow to enjoy it.

Some things are just funnier to some people than others.

I like it. I think its funny. I dont like How I Met Your Mother but others bloody love it. Horses for cpurses.

AlpacaYourThings · 24/08/2014 00:08

Meh. It's not 'laugh out loud' funny most of the time but it is entertaining.

Gileswithachainsaw · 24/08/2014 00:09

I've recently got into this. It's hilarious

spamm · 24/08/2014 00:09

I work with engineers, rocket scientists and geeks. Big Bang theory is histerical, and I have been known to assign it to staff as part of their development, to learn to understand their colleagues better. Yes, it is so stereotical, but there is a strain of truth that runs throughout. I love it!

ElephantsNeverForgive · 24/08/2014 11:18

Perhaps, I need to watch a bit more, I did get a stupid hiding a girlfriend one, but I'm not convinced I'm going to warm to it.

I don't really see the appeal of any American comedy, with two cheap inside sets and a very repetative script.

Early ones were better. As usual comedies have a shelf life and it's reaching it.

insancerre · 24/08/2014 11:39

To get it I think you need to warm to Sheldon
I like it a lot
I love Sheldon. But them again I have always had a thing for the weird. My teenage heroes were Marc almond, boy George and Morrissey
:)

ElephantsNeverForgive · 24/08/2014 15:50

I guess being married to someone the outside world sees as a weird geek, I find it a bit tedious.

DH, knew exactly how to chat up a girl, how to kiss and how to get her into bed.

And I don't want to laugh at Sheldon it feels mean.

I second watching it from the beginning, it makes more sense then. the relationships between all the characters develop over time and their attitude to each other is explained.

I love the relationship between Penny and Sheldon.

picnicbasketcase · 24/08/2014 15:55

I never laugh at it but find it entertaining nonetheless. I used to find it funnier but I think it's been repeated too much or something because I always seem to have already see the episodes whenever it's on.

Rummikub · 24/08/2014 15:59

There are classic moments, like Amy's 'it's a tiara'
I've loved the transformation in Howard. The mums are good characters too.
The relationship agreement too. Think I might like it a bit too much Grin

o0 · 24/08/2014 16:01

I love it. There's always at least 1 laugh out loud moment per episode for me.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 24/08/2014 16:02

you don't exactly laugh at Sheldon - it's never 'mean' humour

they kind of acknowledge each others' foibles.
Sometimes Penny represents the ''normal'' sometimes she is hopeless and the others help her out
Raj and Howard's friendship is awesome, also love Sheldon and Amy - the ballroom dancing! the relationship agreement! brill.

BrieAndChilli · 24/08/2014 16:10

Every episode I turn to DH regarding something shelf on has said or done and say "that will be ds1 when he's older"

It is very stereotypical over the top humour like lots of American sitcoms but we like it and we are geeks, DH moreso.

BrieAndChilli · 24/08/2014 16:10

Sheldon not shelf of

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 24/08/2014 17:15

Tbh I think Big Bang has done no end of good for peoples perception of "geekiness" and, like it or not, has made it acceptable to be geeky. Has made it a positive personality attribute.

Sparklingbrook · 24/08/2014 17:17

The episode where Penny gives Sheldon the Leonard Nimoy napkin for Christmas is brilliant, and the 'It's a tiara!' one.

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 24/08/2014 17:23

I love the one where Howard is the Dungeon Master when they are playing D&D.

BackforGood · 24/08/2014 17:40

What Chaffinch said, about not laughing 'at' their discomfort.
I also agree you love the characters more if you've watched a lot of the earlier episodes. I haven't watched much of the last series, I think it should perhaps quit now, while it's ahead.
It has been brilliant though.

ElephantsNeverForgive · 26/08/2014 17:46

However, Sheldon or at least the actor who plays him has beaten Ricky Grevias (I can't be bothered to learn to spell it, he's odorous) at the Emmy's

I assume you saw Leonard trying to hide Priya. Not a great episode. I adore BBT but you need to see it from episode 1.

Showy · 26/08/2014 17:52

And the Leonard Nimoy napkin, it's a tiara and Sheldon's I like your shoes bazinga are my favourite bits.

mumtosome61 · 26/08/2014 17:57

I never got the appeal and although it has put 'geek' on the map, I am still not sure that it's been for the greater good - it's a rather one dimensional portrayal of what is supposed to be nerdy/geeky. In any case, I hate that word. I also dislike how some people seem to think watching it means they are now either 'geeky' or have a higher intellectual gift than those who don't.

Truthfully I haven't watched it from the beginning and if I did, I may like it. I have way too many other things I'm supposed to be watching but haven't Grin. I'm not a big fan of sitcoms anyway - I'm a virtual outcast because I never found Friend's that brilliant either.

motherinferior · 26/08/2014 17:59

It's a series in which it's possible to be a killer clever woman. At least one of whom is also killer sexy, earns more than her husband and is better-qualified than he is. Gets my vote every time.

motherinferior · 26/08/2014 18:03

oh yes!
