plotmissinginaction · 09/06/2014 19:52

Yes, really sad and shocking.

Lara2 · 09/06/2014 19:54

Yes, how can it have come to this? Sad

expatinscotland · 09/06/2014 19:55

There will soon be someone along to scold for having a laptop.

somewherewest · 09/06/2014 19:59

It shows how easy it is to be tipped into poverty (the single dad who had to give up work when his daughter got leukemia).

I feel really sorry for the grandmother on a zero hours contract. Those contracts are immoral.

I feel terrible for these families but I am a little judgey of the mother entertaining men in the same house as her children. That is terribly risky. What an awful situation to be in.

expatinscotland · 09/06/2014 20:01

The power and gas on a meter is horrible.

We were working poor, and thrown over the edge when our daughter got leukaemia, of which she died.

lady1980 · 09/06/2014 20:02

So sad ?? poor families ,

somewherewest · 09/06/2014 20:04

The girl with leukemia is a really shocking case. In my innocence I wouldn't have thought people in such a desperate situation would be struggling to pay for food and petrol.

OP posts:
Hiawatha44 · 09/06/2014 20:05

I'm so glad she didn't take that loan once that ask for payment up front are just a huge con!

expatinscotland · 09/06/2014 20:06

A leukaemia patient is immunocompromised due to their protocol and cannot use public transplant.

Her costs are only reimbursed a) after a fact b) only on official re-admission.

If he has a motobility car for her the greatest part of DLA goes on this, and yes, when she is in hospital, the DLA gets cut off AND he gets nothing for every journey to see her.

My child was never released but had to live in hospital, so any journey we made, which costs a minimum of £40, was on our tod.

In addition, due to Tory reform, you cannot claim DLA for the first 3 months unless the child is terminal.

This means you are ineligible for other benefits if you have to leave your job.

On top of the fact your kid has fucking cancer.

Cocolepew · 09/06/2014 20:06

I've just switched on. How can they refuse that family DLA? Utterly ridiculous.

Cocolepew · 09/06/2014 20:07

Xpost.
I'm shocked, really shocked.

expatinscotland · 09/06/2014 20:07

sorry, transport

Lara2 · 09/06/2014 20:07

Why don't you get DLA if you've been in hospital for a long time????? Dear God, our system is so immoral!!!!!

theuncivilservant79 · 09/06/2014 20:08

I will be watching later on catch up. I feel guilty my dds have so much

'I've just switched on. How can they refuse that family DLA? Utterly ridiculous.'

Because she took a bad turn and wound up in hospital for over 28 days.

Cocolepew · 09/06/2014 20:09

But it looked as if she would have got it if she had been in a private hospital? Have I got that right?

somewherewest · 09/06/2014 20:09

Expatinscotland That is shocking.

OP posts:
Cocolepew · 09/06/2014 20:09

Fucking hell.

Fairylea · 09/06/2014 20:10

I have some experience of caring for a loved one with a terminal illness and it's extremely hard to get any financial assistance. For most families I would imagine the travel to hospital and the sheer giving up work to care for someone is enough to tip them into poverty. Our system is an absolute joke.

expatinscotland · 09/06/2014 20:10

Very common around here to use camp stoves because the meter is near out, only enough to keep the fridge running, and you are in emergency and there is no money.

FA to do with budgeting, it should be illegal to charge more for people using meters.

Lara2 · 09/06/2014 20:12

I'm raging inside watching this - people are living in unbearable Catch 22 situations. I knew I was lucky, but this has really brought home to me exactly how privileged I am. I'm not rich, I can't afford to go on holiday, DH is disabled, but I have a job, a roof over my head and I never have to make a choice between bills and food.
