Love it. We saw the episodes bring recorded

IsChippyMintonExDirectory · 02/06/2014 00:21

"What is Marlon Brandos last name"

"I dunno?"

"Brando"

Grin such an under rated show

ShelaghTurner · 02/06/2014 08:06

"Forget the bacon, just give me some anti-depressants..."

"Just give me a tea bag, I'll suck it on the way out"

MistyMeena · 02/06/2014 09:07

On the flip side, the episode where Stan recites a poem about his dad makes me cry every time.

Nancy66 · 02/06/2014 10:39

"I wanted to go on Mastermind but I can't sit on leather"

ppeatfruit · 02/06/2014 13:20

Oh god it;s one of my favourite sit coms of all time; yup I could always watch it. Lucky they repeat it so often. The one that makes me really cry is the one on Bren's birthday when the brass band plays for her it's class Grin

DameEdnasBridesmaid · 02/06/2014 18:50

Glad it's not just me Grin. Love them all esp Dolly and Jean.

Dolly - Why do people have to spit? That ruined Titanic for me, the spitting. The iceberg couldn't come soon enough after I saw that.

And

Jean - It's a load of codswash dieting. All that misery for what? You could fall under a bus tomorrow.
Dolly - I could. You couldn't fit under a bus, it'd have to be jacked up.

ShelaghTurner · 03/06/2014 11:19

Dolly - It’s all very well them laughing and making friends with Jesus. We’ll have miles to go for a carpet if that happens.

MistyMeena · 03/06/2014 13:27

Irritable bowel syndrome? Whatever happened to flatulence?

ppeatfruit · 03/06/2014 13:44

I can't quite remember it word for word but the conversation about one of Jean's aunties who ate a coaster at a wedding and had to be stopped from buttering and eating some more.

Must be another hilarious line from my fave sitcom ever Grin

encyclogirl · 03/06/2014 14:06

Here you go ppeatfruit

Jean: Last big wedding Keith's Auntie ate a coaster.
Dolly: What?
Jean: Keith's Auntie Margo ate a raffia drinks coaster. She thought it was a high fibre biscuit. She had to be held back from moving down the table and buttering two more.

Total class!

Thurlow · 03/06/2014 14:10

Dolly - "He once made a pass at me, Jean."
Jean - "Did he?"
Dolly - "Oh he didn't get very far, I was in a wraparound cardigan."

ppeatfruit · 03/06/2014 14:29

Yes that 's it Thanks and thanks Grin encyclogirl brilliant stuff!!!!

brianbennettfan · 03/06/2014 19:23

Just wanted to join in and say I love dinnerladies.

Love all of them but especially love Julie Walters as Petula Gordeno.

Also fab cameo appearances by Eric Sykes, Thora Hird and Dora Bryan.

One of the best comedy sitcoms ever. Thanks for this thread, so many laughs.

SongsAboutB · 03/06/2014 19:26

It's so funny, much funnier second or third time around IMO. It's also one of the sweetest love stories on TV.

wigglesrock · 03/06/2014 19:27

Oh I love it too, that and Early Doors I could just watch on repeat - I'm very juvenile I think my favourite is "smell my Charlie"

Primadonnagirl · 03/06/2014 19:35

This show is my lifeline..have you ever heard the lyrics to the theme tune? Quite sad but true...Too many brilliant lines to repeat here..I almost have to stop myself from thinking they are real
V Woods Shoe shop sketch ( we' ve got hens in the skirting board!) is my fave sketch of all time

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/06/2014 19:44

I love dinnerladies - it is probably my favourite comedy of all. And some bits make me cry - when the Black Dyke Mills band turns up to play for Bren's birthday, especially.

CMOTDibbler · 03/06/2014 19:45

There were two sets of lyrics:

The episode Minnellium ended with the following lyrics:

Getting up, getting out, getting on, getting going,
Wears away at the dreams that you hold in your heart,
All the scared little choices you make without knowing,
Take away from the thing that you had at the start.
Chorus:
Day by day, drops of water wear the stone away,
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday…

The final episode of Dinnerladies featured the following lyrics:

All the dreams that you had when it all lay before you,
All the plans that you made, all the things you would do,
All the schemes that you knew time would bring to fruition,
Did they happen? Not so far, at least not to you.
Chorus:
Day by day, drops of water wear the stone away,
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday…

Primadonnagirl · 03/06/2014 20:29

Oh CMOT thanks! ( sniff!)

Tomfunsnumber1trolley · 03/06/2014 20:39

I love dinnerladies, could watch it over and over again. Agree that it's so comforting. Creme de menthe! And Stan's 'a female woman'! Very bittersweet at times, definitely Victoria Wood's finest moment and a cast to die for.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 03/06/2014 20:43

I love dinnerladies too, I often watch the DVDs.

Christine: "This is the old country way, whisking towards the heart"

Jean: "Really? Which old country person told you that?" Grin

"I'm just having a fag".

"Bren, was that your mum doing the hokey cokey with Mr Tashimoto?"

"Yes"

"Thought so. Pretty hard to do to Mull of Kintyre".

PersonalClown · 03/06/2014 20:51

I've got my dander up!

TooManyBubbas · 03/06/2014 21:31
