Do you think he's playing to the camera or is he always like that ?
He's sort if spoiling the programme, even though it's about him Hmm

I think he is a bit egotistical and probably hard to work for. But I respect what he does.

Cocolepew · 21/05/2014 21:13

He knows his stuff, just wish there wasn't so much ER style acting Grin

I saw about two minutes of it last week and he was phoning a lady to tell her her dog (I think) was okay after the op. When she answered the phone he asked her how she was. FFS, just tell her the dog's still alive then carry on with the chitchat! Angry

expatinscotland · 21/05/2014 22:08

I think he's wonderful. His clients rave about him.

Cocolepew · 21/05/2014 22:13

He phoned someone tonight and his first words were "I'm sorry to... " "phone you so late". I would think my pet had died if I heard that.
He showed his true self when he was sitting in the crate crying over the dog walking , that was sweet.

Does pet insurance cover all the bills?

I think people like him are absolutely wicked- they do all this extreme surgery on animals as a massive ego trip and because the owners can't make the kind, brave, responsible decision to have their animal PTS. It's wicked to condemn an animal to extreme and long term pain and incapacity when they have no way of knowing that they will be better in the end. They only know about the "now".

Rant over.

expatinscotland · 21/05/2014 22:18

He is in no way condemning them to long-term pain!

expatinscotland · 21/05/2014 22:20

All we have is the 'now', btw. No one has a crystal ball.

Sparklingbrook · 21/05/2014 22:24

I think what he does is brilliant. If I had fixed that dog like he did in tonight's I would be crying too.

It's obviously his passion.

Martorana · 21/05/2014 22:28

But humans have understanding and hope. Animals don't.

Cocolepew · 21/05/2014 22:39

I laughed at the little dog sitting upright on its bum Grin

A lot of animals I have met have far more understanding than a lot of people I've met.

Hmm
HouseofEliot · 21/05/2014 23:08

He is fab. We all watch it as a family and enjoy it.

Martorana · 22/05/2014 07:43

"A lot of animals I have met have far more understanding than a lot of people I've met."

They don't, you know. There isn't a single animal that can understand "This, right now, is hell. But tomorrow it will be a bit better, and next week better still"

Canidae · 22/05/2014 11:57

My friend's dog is at his clinic right now. He is being treated for cancer in his leg and has had the tumor and damaged bone removed and metal plates put in. He has recovered well and is due to go home tomorrow.

The dog is only 2 and will hopefully live a long life after this.

expatinscotland · 22/05/2014 14:05

Nor do babies and young children with diseases like cancer, shall we just put them to sleep then?

Martorana · 22/05/2014 14:29

No. Because they are humans.

squeezycheeseplease · 22/05/2014 14:36

I heard him on radio and he was a bit much. He was very hippy drippy, but when he was asked whether he was vegetarian - he's not - he wasn't happy to talk about that at all.

The interviewer was one who is generally dreadful (very Alan Partridge) but it actually worked in this instance, because he just kept saying, 'but if you love animals so much, how can you eat them?'

Supervet gave out one of the usual lines about how, if we were all veggie, there would be no lovely cows or pigs to look at and the interviewer said, 'so, it's better that we eat them?'

SV then decided he didn't want to talk about it any more Grin . . .

Martorana · 22/05/2014 15:14

Bit daft to have a go at him for not being a vegetarian- it's perfectly possible to like animals and still eat them.......

VetNurse · 22/05/2014 17:47

He's very overdramatic and not nice to work for. I can't watch the programme, it makes me cringe. There are much better vets out there who care for their patients and not their image. They just don't feel the need to make a TV programme about how amazing they are!

squeezycheeseplease · 22/05/2014 17:50

Is it me who was 'daft' or the interviewer?

It was a completely hypocritical stance actually Martorana.

EnlightenedOwl · 22/05/2014 22:24

He is not objective at all and he takes things too far.
I have been through the experience of a cat needing spinal surgery like the dog last night and chose not to go ahead with it and elected to pts. Was made to feel like a criminal. Having seen the op last night I know I made the right decision would not have put my poor cat through that for anything.

higgle · 30/05/2014 10:23

I'm in two minds about this. I certainly thought that Pixie the cat would have been better off being PTS in the early part of the last programme, but then by the end when she had gone through all the ops and even - I wouldn't have thought it possible - the swimming bit - I could see her owner had been right in having the treatment. The Great Dane too - although she was cured of the back problem she can't have long left and maybe it would have been kinder to call it a day at age 10.

I've long thought that my family have had much better service from our vets than our GPs surgery, we have always had the invitation to call night or day when pets have been seriously ill. We have paid for extensive spinal surgery for one young dog ( the dogs we have had insured have never been ill!) but most of the charges are very reasonable and frankly I'd be more than willing to pay for the friendly respectful service if GPs could deign to treat patients as equal partners in decision making.

susiedaisy · 30/05/2014 21:37

The programme seems to brush over any pain the animals may be in and also how long they have to stay locked in the cages whilst recuperating. The cat this week that had extensive surgery must have been in a lot of pain for quite some time. But it's not really mentioned.

Cocolepew · 30/05/2014 21:48

I didn't watch it this week, once was enough.
