I'm enjoying it and (and quite fancy Dougal Ballontyne or however you spell it) they were right about the chair tonight.

Absolutely, I LIKED the bag idea, could see it really taking off with Lakeland/the Cath Kidston tent picnic market.

dya reckon you'd fancy him too?

oh, and unfortunately it's other people's money he invests, not ours

Gizmo · 11/08/2006 12:11

But I think she's pretty shrewd, Fiofio, as well as a very hard nosed operator. I guessed she wanted that woman's idea, future ideas and possibly her PR potential but thought she would need a hefty kick up the backside in terms of objective setting if she was ever going to make any money. Which felt about right to me. I mean, honestly, going to a bunch of angels and offering them 15% of a business with project profits of £10K on year 3? What planet was she on???

I love this programme - it's a bit pantomime though isn't it, they've obviously all been told by the producers to be even harder this series. I like Theo and Doug best.

Gizmo · 11/08/2006 12:31

I must admit, it's a lot more, errrmmm, direct, than any pitches I've ever been involved in.

But I'd like to think I've never been involved in any pitches that are quite as half arsed as, ooohhhh, let's pick a random example here, the 'bonk' pitch. Eeekk!

laudaud · 11/08/2006 13:35

I was thinking if I was truck wash man, I would have walked away. Considering 4 dragons were keen to invest, I would think he'd have no problem attracting investors after the show!

speedymama · 11/08/2006 14:01

The truck guy was exceptional compared to most of the tycoon wannabes in that he knew and understood his product, market and customer base. I totally disagreed with Peter Jones analysis because to compare a truck wash to a car wash is like comparing chalk with cheese. They are two completely different products with different target customer base and I'm amazed that he did not understand that.

I loved the picnic bag idea and I thought the dragon woman (foreget her name) was totally unreasonable and delusional to expect the inventor to hand over her company. It was clear that the dragon woman wanted total control and if that was my product, I would have walked away too. However, the inventor needs to develop more ambition and energy for her product because to expect £10k profit after 3years trading shows seriously flawed business sense, imo.

Iklboo · 11/08/2006 14:11

I loved exercise chair guy! He was like the batty English inventor. Mind you - they could go a bundle in old folk's homes

wannaBe1974 · 11/08/2006 18:47

you've gotta laugh at some though - what about the car guy who was going to set up the nhs direct equivilant for cars. "car broken down?" and I said ... "call the AA". lol.

speedymama · 14/08/2006 08:47

I actually think that the guy with the NHS direct equivalent for his car service had an interesting business concept but he did not deliver it very well. I think if you could contact an independent advisor about car troubles who would be able to give you an assessment of what needs to be done and how much it may cost, I think a lot of people would use that scheme in order to prevent garages overcharging them.

From personal experience, too many garages are less than honest in their dealings with the public, particuarly wrt women, and anything that could undermine this bad practice would be a good thing.

One o those "is it just me being dim" questions - is suave fat-walleted dispenser of advice Peter Jones anything to do with Peter Jones the London shop? (I was going to say he looks a lot younger than when he was on "Just A Minute", but I'm not that daft.)

LIZS · 25/08/2006 13:23

Were those Yoga people last night just in it for the publicity or did they genuinely feel it appropriate to turn down the money, do you think? Anyone come across the classes ?

Think JLP had the Peter Jones store , pre Peter Jones iyswim

UnquietDad · 25/08/2006 13:41

I liked the Yogic Yummy-mummies, and was quite shocked when they turned the offer down. I don't think they needed it - Duncan had them bang to rights. You could be right about the publicity thing!

What about Cucumber Guy? I wonder if he did give PJ a call?

LIZS · 25/08/2006 13:45

I wonder too. Felt they went a bit OTT on the cucumber condom joke - it is prewatershed and ds (8) likes to watch ! Mind you if Jamie Oliver can sell a Flavour Shaker for £20 odd why not a cucumber cover . Betterware, Lakeland et al might yet show interest .

UnquietDad · 25/08/2006 13:51

they have a website, which I've found but I'm not going to paste a link to - just in case they were only after the free publicity. It's not bad, but it took a while to load various bits up, and I'm on 2Mb.

Amused that one of them was called Lara Goodbody. She ought to be a Bond girl with a name like that.

UnquietDad · 08/09/2006 13:39

Anyone see it last night, then? I didn't think those construction women did themselves any favours. They didn't get the 5%/15% thing, and when Theo said, "Let me explain it slowly" to reply sarcastically, "Yes, we are women after all" was just OUCH! Chip on both shoulders indeed.

Theo was a bit cruel tearing up the guy's plastic high-chair pad - I mean, how likely would that be to happen if the child was sitting on it? Did anyone here think it really looked dangerous?

jalopy · 08/09/2006 13:55

I was staggered that the baby mat hadn't been tried and tested. Seemed incredible that the product ripped so easily. He would never be able to market it as a baby product unless it was made indestructible. It's quite possible that toddlers could pull those off the high chairs (outside mealtimes) and rip them to pieces. I would view it as a choking hazard and wouldn't buy the product.

oxocube · 08/09/2006 17:41

I think those two construction women did women in business no favours. They were completely unprofessional, in both their attitudes and lack of presentation skills. How could the second of the two women to present - the blonde one- stand by and watch her friend suffer like that and not intervene to help? I felt quite sorry for Deborah Meaden as they were obviously looking to her for female support but seemed to forget the whole point of the programme which is to spot opportunities and make a successful business.

Still kind of fancy Duncan Banatyne and the Aussie guy though. And the fact that 2 of these guys have 5 kids each is rather endearing
