I have never seen anything so disgusting in all my life.

Poor Trinny and Susannah

Just seeing it like that made me feel sick but also a hypocrite as have eaten meat all these years.

I have just saw it too. Cant believe someone could do that then go home and eat it.
Ive been vegetarian since I was 9.

oopschomsky · 09/08/2006 22:07

i ahve been veegie for over 20yrs after working at a slaughterhouse.
Go figure.

i honestly believe if more people know how the meat is "made" they woiuldn't eat it.
And that place was nice, really

leggymamba · 09/08/2006 22:41

ive been around some too and that was a nice small rural slaughter house. ive not eaten meat since my first experience of the meat chain.

i reared 2 pigs last year and had them slaughtered for our own consuption and nothing feels better than eating meat and knowing that the animal was fed a good diet and had a large area to roam in. they make yummy sausages

mummydear · 10/08/2006 07:30

We all knew that they were heading for the slaughter house. Gordon Ramsey said from day one, I did think at one point that he was going to back out and keep them. Good for him for staying and seeing it through, for once he seemed pretty speechless.

Not a pretty sight but we knew what was coming.

Hasn't made a differnce to my eating habits.

TutterOtsky · 10/08/2006 07:33

whilst it wasn't pretty i think it's good for viewers to understand the process. and, as i said to dh, you either deal with it or stop eating meat.

i doubt he'll be thinking of trinny and susannah next time he'e eating a bacon sandwich i'm afraid...

trinityrhino · 10/08/2006 07:34

I haven't watched it yet shhhh

lilibet · 10/08/2006 08:17

I don't eat meat anyway but as someone pointed out earlier that was a 'nice' slaughterhouse. The ones that do your everyday pigs/cows/chickens make that one lok like fairyland!

I hid behind a cushion!

katierocket · 10/08/2006 08:20

But what do you expect??!! If you eat meat then do you honestly not consider where it comes from?

gigglinggoblin · 10/08/2006 08:20

wont be watching that then. thought the turkeys were bad enough, i didnt think that they would actually show the pigs being killed. i do think its a good thing that people understand the reality tho, my grandad worked on farms all his life and told us all about it in graphic detail. then wondered why i went veggie

DVX · 10/08/2006 08:25

Everyone who eats meat should be aware of how it is made and where it comes from. I worked on a farm for years and killed a duck myself. After that I was a veggie for 7 years but have gone back to meat eating. It is not pretty but I feel ok about it and know I have taken the decision to eat meat without being prissy about where it comes from and how it is treated. Having said that I onyl eat organic meat which comes from my butcher and I know the animal hs ahd a good life.

morningpaper · 10/08/2006 08:27

I thought it was okay.

It was only shocking because Gordon obviously LOVED them so it was a bit like skinning the family cat.

By the way I LOVE that bit at the beginning where he takes his shirt off. drool

katierocket · 10/08/2006 08:34

Yes I do the same DVX, in fact I only eat chicken but it has to be free range or organic. I really can't believe people are shocked by the fact that animals are killed in the production of meat. If it disturbs you then I'd say definitely go veggie/

morningpaper · 10/08/2006 08:37

Yes - did you think that the Wicked Witch gave them a magic apple to eat and they lay down to sleep and woke up as a pack of Wall's prime sausages?

wheelybug · 10/08/2006 08:37

a little insidey gossip - my brother worked on the filming of the pig thing and they were all really cut up about it, inc Gordon. Apparently my bro lost the plot big time which is quite amusing in that he likes to pretend he is quite tough.

Mind you, I had to turn it over so can't imagine what it would have been like to be there !

morningpaper · 10/08/2006 08:39

I must admit, I did think he was going to be sick

katierocket · 10/08/2006 08:39

I just don't get it sorry. Killing animals for meat is brutal. That's life. either don't eat it or accept it.

franke · 10/08/2006 08:42

Another wimp hiding behind a cushion here I'm afraid. And yes, I think it had alot to do with his emotional investment in them. I find it rather ironic that he felt he had a duty to attend the throat-slitting of his beloved pigs, but has never attended the birth of one of his kids because he's too squeamish.

LemonTart · 10/08/2006 08:43

For once I admire the man for seeing it through and standing by his own viewpoint on the meat/veggie thing. I did wonder if he would stop it and refuse to go through with it.
We are currently veggie and see no chance of changing our diet in the future. That footage confirmed our decision was the right one for us. Found it really shocking and brutal. Of course I knew it happens all the time, every day, but to watch the process alongside a man who secretly viewed them as his pets was hard viewing.

kate100 · 10/08/2006 08:49

I didn' think it was too bad. The man at the slaughterhouse seemed to know exactly what he was doing. Surely people aren't naive enough to think that animals aren't killed in the production of meat? I only eat free range and organic meat as I want to be sure that the animal has been cared for properly and humanely. TBH, I found the footage of the pigs living in awful conditions last week more disturbing than the slaughter.

LieselVonTrapp · 10/08/2006 09:17

So am I, wasnt that gross.

oliveoil · 10/08/2006 09:35

franke - good point re childbirth! lol

I hid behind a cushion as well, and have been considering veggie for a while now (did thread recently) but I don't eat much meat anyway.

What got me was when he went out to see them in his garden and they didn't come out to see him, as if they knew .

jalopy · 10/08/2006 09:39

I was more freaked out by the man at the slaughterhouse.

Tommy · 10/08/2006 09:39

I wanted to see that but veggie DH wanted to watch the race to the North Pole or something.
Interesting what wheelybug says.
Is it repeated on E4 at all?
