I thought it was fab. Loved the script dialogue , loved the lead performances.
Looks great

I'll tape it for DH. Ta Pag.

laraeo · 24/02/2014 19:11

This is probably the best show on right now - & I love the Walking Dead!

We just saw ep. 6. It just keeps getting better.

CuntyBunty · 24/02/2014 22:05

Wow: "I lack the constitution for suicide", what a line.

VivaLeBeaver · 24/02/2014 22:08

I think mm could be a bit kinky in bed, whereas I think WH might be a bit lazy. Plus I'd struggle to get images of WH in his Cheers days out of my head.

So would have to say MM, but don't really find either attractive.

Lighthousekeeping · 24/02/2014 22:13

I reckon MM does all kinds of yoga moves.

laraeo · 24/02/2014 22:32

Oh CuntyBunty, wait til you get ep 6. MM has a line to a female prisoner that made both me and DH go, did you just hear that?

Lighthousekeeping · 24/02/2014 22:38

Please, no more!

Onepactupac · 24/02/2014 22:44

LOVING this. Have to say the highlights are the relationship between the two characters and the Louisiana setting. The actual serial killer thing is average-ish. Also think MM over-acts a bit, and that WH is by far the superior actor (MM has a great script and actually a pretty easy character to go with, not so easy to play an interesting Mr Average).

Also think the cinematography is awesome too, as well as the music. This series better get some awards.

Have read there will be a second season but not with these two characters. So we can expect more!

bigmouthstrikesagain · 24/02/2014 22:56

Yes! DH and I are enjoying it very much. Stellar casting and fantastic soundtrack. That long scene at the end of Ep 4 tracking Rust's progress through the shoot out was amazing (though it did remind me of a computer game).

The characters are well drawn and scripted - though I do sit there thinking 'why?! - What is their motivation?' when yet another incredibly beautiful woman boffs Woody! I can understand trying to 'cheer up' McConaghy with lots of sex but Woody is past his prime euch. Confused

I do think the central crime is rather pedestrian not really treading new fround. But it is in the tradition of pulp/ true crime genre fiction and I can see it as a successful formula in the way of American Horror Story with new stories/ characters for each season. As long as the dialogue and characterisations stay as good as they are now.

Does anyone else struggle with the mumbled deep south accents - I have had to rewind several scenes (especially when they are talking to prisoners) to work out what is said! It is keeping us going til the next season of GoT.

Onepactupac · 25/02/2014 01:10

Ha - I watch with subtitles on!

stooshe · 25/02/2014 01:25

Brilliant show. I've always loves McBongo and Harrelson. I watched episode 6 yesterday. I won't give any details. Needless to say if anybody has found it slow (after the first episode), be grateful. I'm already "mourning" that I've only got two more episodes to wait on.

stooshe · 25/02/2014 01:29

Bigmouthstrikesagain. There will always be women willing to give an easy man an easy fuck. A woman who pays to much mind to the "lookism" thing does so at her own peril. Whether it be at the female or male protagonist.
"You either got it in the face or the waist", or so the saying goes.

Beeyump · 25/02/2014 10:12

'I can understand trying to 'cheer up' McConaghy with lots of sex but Woody is past his prime euch.'

Haa, I absolutely agree with this assessment! Loving True Detective, I'm thinking about it quite a bit through the working day (sigh) which is always the sign of a good show.

“This place is like someone's memory of a town and that memory's faded,” SO GOOD.

Lighthousekeeping · 25/02/2014 10:21

Please no spoilers those of you up thread. We have only seen episode one.

Forago · 25/02/2014 13:46

Joining as just watched the first 2 episodes, v good

Doitnicelyplease · 25/02/2014 18:27

Love it also and agree with the MM comments, I keep thinking "wow when did he become such a great actor" i think all those years he cashed in doing rom coms made me think he was lame.
We are up to episode 5 here.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 25/02/2014 18:54

Stooshe your comment reminds me of the chorus of my folks favourite folk song... "some like a girl who is pretty in the face
And some like a girl who is slender in the waist,
But give me a girl who will wiggle and will twist
And will let me put me hand on her cuckoo's nest."

Sorry off topic Blush

Forago · 27/02/2014 09:51

god this is good - anyone gone beyond ep 6 yet?

VivaLeBeaver · 27/02/2014 10:13

How are you all watching further episodes?

Beeyump · 27/02/2014 10:19

I am so, so tired because of this show.

Tiredemma · 27/02/2014 10:20

Watched it last night. Quite simply brilliant. MM - wow. When did he get that good an actor??

Lighthousekeeping · 27/02/2014 10:47

There's really no point in talking about further episodes unless you start a spoiler thread. I'm patiently waiting each week and I'm enjoying watching it like that thanks.

Beeyump · 27/02/2014 10:56

I envy your self-control and patience, Lighthouse Sad

Ellisisland · 27/02/2014 11:02

Completely obsessed already think it's fab and have only seen one episode Grin

laraeo · 27/02/2014 12:29

The US just finished episode 6. Ep 7 on this Sunday night.

My only problem is it is on at the exact same time as Walking Dead & Downton (we're just finishing it up). I sometimes think the DVR is going to have a meltdown.
