As you were!

OP posts:

Peter didn't just have an affair he slept with prostitutes (once in the marital bed) and went to jail because he used public funds to buy gifts and pay for his whores.
I think they are as bad as each other. They have a 'friends with benefits' relationship at the moment but still live separately.

Peter needs Alicia for his political career and loves her as the mother of his children. She is addicted to the kudos that comes with being a governor's wife and is blatantly turned on by the fact that he has in the past used very dodgy tactics to 'protect his family'.
They are as bad as each other and have a very unhealthy relationship.

In the past Alicia felt she needed to stick with her marriage out of duty and guilt. She clearly has issues with her mother being a flake and wants to be 'the good wife'. Now she just uses Peter. IMO he deserves it.

diddl · 04/04/2014 18:14

I thought that he'd had an affair with Kalinda at some point?

Jackie is so loathsome!

Love Eli Gold!!

SconeRhymesWithGone · 04/04/2014 18:21

Eli is my favorite. Machiavelli but with a heart beating somewhere in there. Such a complex character and played to perfection by Alan Cumming.

anonacfr · 04/04/2014 18:28

He had sex with Kalinda once which is why Alicia and Kalinda aren't friends any more.
At the time she was working for him but that whole storyline was v vague so we don't know when/why the encounter took place (she implied there was a reason).

Eli is ironically turning out to be one of the nicer characters. I love Diane as well- she's ruthless in business but moral in her character.

dawntigga · 04/04/2014 20:35

Hello my people, watched the spoiler ep without knowing what was coming, in fact I may have started a thread about it and had several wtabf moments.

Yes Peter did some terrible, terrible things and if it was my husband I wouldn't have even stayed with him. There is no way I could forgive him sleeping with prostitutes but Alicia also slept with Will so yes, they're as bad as each other. Neither have a right to point the finger at each other but Alicia just jaunts around wih such an entitled attitude.

Just saw a trailer for a future episode where Alicia calls him a bastard and Peter calls her a selfish bitch. Finally, a bit of truth.

onedev · 04/04/2014 21:48

I don't think Alicia is as bad at all - there's a world of difference sleeping with prostitutes & numerous affairs compared to sleeping with an ex after you've broken up with your husband.

Maybe I have no moral compass either as I love them all, including Peter Grin.

overthemill · 04/04/2014 22:21

Malinda slept with peter when he helped her change identity

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 05/04/2014 08:17

The thing is, Peter's put it all behind him and has shown remorse and since then, he hasn't ever shown any indication that he'd falter again. Even when the beautiful blonde pouty lady turned up (I forget her name- the pregnant pop tart one) he was always well behaved. Alicia on the other hand, looks like she'll jump into Will's arms at any opportunity and has been unfaithful since too.

Anyway, I too, think they're all fab characters. All of them with such depth. The only one I'm not so keen on is Micheal J Fox's character who is extremely irritating and also this new Irish cocky guy who's too far up his own rear end. I mean, which idiot goes and steals all the furniture from someone else's office and gets away wih it. Jerk.

As you can see, I'm far too invested in his drama. Blush I'm ashamed to say that when I watched 'THE' episode I had to get out of bed again to watch the next episode because I couldn't sleep thinking about them all. And because they didn't show the conversation between Cary and Diane that she alluded to when firing the insensitive client I ...um... erm.... I made it up in my head and imagined it out so I would to miss it.

anonacfr · 05/04/2014 09:30

Hah!

Love the idea do making up a scene in your head. You're worse than me! Diane and David Lee were superb throughout that episode.

anonacfr · 05/04/2014 09:58

However I think the only reason Peter hasn't shown any inclination to cheat again is that he's aware Alicia is still unsure of their relationship. He wants to be Governor and he needs his perfect family. Also he's attracted by Alicia detached and playing hard to get. He was obviously bored with Alicia the housewife. They still had sex but he seems to be one of those men (modelled on his father from Jackie's comments here and there) who believes it's acceptable to have a family and casual sex on the side.

Right now wants his 'wife' but if you remember he was v insensitive about buying back the family old house, when his mother (evil Jackie) in one episode was telling him he shouldn't have to grovel to Alicia anymore he clearly agreed with her....

From what we see of him I believe it would only be a matter of time until he cheated again.

dawntigga · 05/04/2014 10:14

It's all a matter of time before Peter does something quite horrid, again. As for Alicia, sorry, but what woman wouldn't want to make her cheating, sordid husband pay and pay for doing what Peter did? If it turns into another Breaking Bad where the fans start making Alicia the evil one I shall be quite cross.

As for 'the thing that happened that must not be talked about' I STILL think that the thing it happened to should be called 'the brownie' and the event should be called 'dropping the brownie', then we can all be emotionally traumatised by the brownie and talk about it whilst giving away very little.

overthemill · 05/04/2014 10:48

I also make up make stories too! Though David lee was beautifully played in ep 16 and so out of character! Please hurry up everyone so we don't have to keep talking about the brownie.

Surprised that Owen didn't pop up in ep 16. Want to know more about kalinda but not that stupid husband story line. Peter is a bastard seduced by power and Alicia was silly trophy wife until she discovered her power. ( good back story revealed in ep 15) and I would leave my DH for Eli if he asked

Dozer · 05/04/2014 11:16

Have asked MnHQ to put a spoiler alert on this thread!

Dozer · 05/04/2014 11:28

Have read all the episode guides online Shock, can't wait to see them, but don't think there's a way to view episodes ahead from UK without breaching copyright / supporting piracy, which I disagree with.

Dozer · 05/04/2014 11:30

No way Peter and Alicia were as bad as each other. He slept with prostitutes and others. They had been separated some time when she had the affair with Will. Not the same.

overthemill · 05/04/2014 12:11

dozer I share your view but I simply cannot abide 98% of the crap TV in UK so use steaming sites to watch TV prigs I enjoy. I believe I use one that is legal but would like to know if that's not the case. And, I hope that nothing I have said is a spoiler as I haven't revealed any plot from ahead of where UK is up to - I would DIE if that happened, like being told the ending of a book.

onedev · 05/04/2014 12:37

Totally agree with anon re power etc

Also, are we sure Peter hasn't shagged Angel? Eli's splutter was hilarious when she said she was calling the baby Peter!

anonacfr · 05/04/2014 16:46

No there was a ridiculous reveal where it emerged that the father was Peter Bogdanovitch playing himself in a quick cameo.

The whole pregnancy storyline was ridiculous. The actress was obviously more pregnant than her character- they should just have made her pregnant from the start and cut out on the 'comedy' side of it. Lots of competent professional women work while pregnant- it doesn't turn them into bumbling annoying idiots.

onedev · 05/04/2014 16:49

I didn't realise she was pregnant in real life - that makes more sense then. I keep waiting for something sinister to happen with her!

Who's Peter Bogdanovitch?

diddl · 05/04/2014 16:55

The reveal of PB was in the episode after Eli splutters on a drink.

I think it's this Thurs on UK tv.

onedev · 05/04/2014 17:19

Who is he though?

anonacfr · 05/04/2014 17:39

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Bogdanovich

Actress has now had the baby so I guess she'll have a fake tummy in the next episodes if we see her again.

overthemill · 05/04/2014 19:19

He's a famous film director made the iconic though hard to follow 'the last picture show' with cybil shepherd when she was just starting acting - showing my age. I was deeply impressed they got him to appear!

The comedy aspect was annoying but I did love Eli's expression when he spluttered!

onedev · 05/04/2014 19:49

Thanks both. I did google him after I asked but I've never heard of him or any of his movies!

Sounded a bit dodgy though with the dead playboy bunnies younger sister?? Given (from what I've read) she was 14 when he started pursuing her, just all v wrong & no idea why they'd have him in The Good Wife!!
