I'm sure after the Christmas special they said a new series would be starting in the New Year. So where is it?? [impatient]

I thought she was teaching him to dance so he wouldn't embarrass Trixie? Although I wouldn't blame her if she wanted to go off with him!

Hello everyone i've had a fluey thing and been away but nothing'll drag me away from CTM Grin It's so good (i'm pleased that the beeb is doing something extraordinary).

I 2nd the request to have you on MNwebchat 2old2be! I knew there'd be interesting reactions to the LD episode. Which IMO was beautifully done and acted. And sad, like some other posters, I cry through CTM every week Grin.

WRF to the smoking doctor by the early 50s and definitely 60s the danger of smoking was uncovered (by doctors!). So our Mcgann man would deffo have known the research. I think the little boy who plays his son is very good indeed.

LaVolcan · 25/02/2014 13:27

So our Mcgann man would deffo have known the research.

And so, if he's got a 40 a day habit, and is being asked about how much he smokes, he might well be prickly about it. Hence him asking whether there were other agencies which didn't ask as many questions. We will have to wait and see!

ppeatfruit · 25/02/2014 13:46

Yes exactly LaVolcan.

Oodhousekeeping · 25/02/2014 14:58

We do the imdb thing too suffolk

limitedperiodonly · 26/02/2014 12:45

I've just watched the last three episodes back to back. I'm a wreck now Grin

BTW about 20 years ago I briefly knew a woman whose DS daughter was planning to marry a DS man and they were going to live with her. He had a job in a supermarket but her daughter wasn't able to be that independent, but might have been in future.

She said that she'd encountered some distaste from people who didn't like the thought of them having sex - though I imagine they didn't dare say that twice to her Grin.

She had no problem with sex but she had arranged for her daughter to have a contraceptive implant. She thought her daughter would be scared and confused by pregnancy and wouldn't be able to look after a baby and the mum wasn't up for that level of care, which seemed fair enough.

Also, like someone said earlier, I think her daughter had heart problems that would have been complicated by pregnancy. I lost touch ages ago but that storyline reminded me of them .

The reverend is certainly very tasty but I did want him to fall for Cynthia as she is so sweet and a nice curate would be just the thing for her!

NinjaBunny · 26/02/2014 13:39

I was hoping the handsome Revered was going to offer lovely Jacob a job or something so he could stay close to Sally.

Agree that Cynthia could do with a nice man in her life.

I'm currently plodding back through series 2. Pasty Mount was in the episode where Jenny is seconded to the hospital. I'd forgotten about that.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 26/02/2014 13:44

I've just bought the box set for my mum for her birthday as she has just started watching, so missed the first two series. I'm tempted to break it open and watch it all again.

Like a lot of you young 'uns I am finding it all very emotional. My dear friend who worked with me in Poplar is in bits too!

Confused by Doctors attitude as it was so easy to adopt in 1960 you were able to pick and choose with very few questions asked. We shall see.

Attitude towards disabled children was just changing, every child had a beauty spot however disabled it was up to you to find it!!

NinjaBunny · 26/02/2014 22:17

I've never drunk Babysham.

Don't even know if I'm spelling it right.

Can you still buy it??

Pixel · 26/02/2014 23:24

I've got a big bottle of Babycham in my kitchen that I was given for Christmas. Might crack it open tomorrow Smile.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 26/02/2014 23:48

You can still get it, it's very nice. I think they might have it in some supermarkets, I'm sure I bought some from Sainsburys at Christmas.

for it here. I think there might be Babycham shoes with the same deer logo?
ppeatfruit · 27/02/2014 10:37

Polka it's nice if you like cheap tasting watery over sweet fizzy pear juice (that doesn't taste of pears or anything!!Grin) Give me my once a year snowball anytime!!

Clawdy · 27/02/2014 13:35

I also remember adoptions in the 60s where the adoptive parents were certainly smokers, with no question of it being a problem, so if the storyline is going that way,it will be a bit implausible.

2old2beamum · 27/02/2014 18:29

Clawdy and CRB checks did not exist,

figgypuddings · 27/02/2014 18:33

Sorry to go on about it but I am sure that very personal sex related questions were asked in the adoption process in the 60s. Frequency, etc.
My hunch is that the doctor suffers from premature ejaculation, low sperm count or something. I am also wondering if he is the biological father of his son.

alemci · 27/02/2014 18:35

I've never drunk babycham either - intrigued but I do like a snowball at christmas :)

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 27/02/2014 19:56

Admittedly I'm not much of a drinker, I quite like the fact it doesn't much like alcohol! And the bottles are just a nice size. (And the deer is very sweet... advertiser's dream here!)

Speaking of Timothy, we saw him walking not that well with two sticks at the gait clinic a few weeks ago, but then that didn't seem to ever be mentioned again and he's walking completely normally now Confused

2old2beamum · 27/02/2014 21:35

Could they do sperm count in the 1950's? and am sure erectile disfunction would not have been discussed and surely his new wife would know.

ppeatfruit · 28/02/2014 10:48

She has scarring from the TB though so there'd be no hope of conceiving for them then would there?

LaVolcan · 28/02/2014 10:58

This is a problem they already know about. He seemed enthusiastic until he looked at the forms and then must have seen something he didn't like, which suggests it's more about his health or something else in his background than hers. His wife's supposed to have died, isn't she? Perhaps that was a story and they divorced instead? Probably a big no-no for adoption in the late 50s/early 60s. We will have to wait and see.

Wife loves it. She also likes Midwife
