twinsetandpearls · 28/07/2006 11:12

She has done quite a lot of reality TV, she told me other stiff but I can't remember.

twinsetandpearls · 28/07/2006 11:13

I always assumed her hotel was like Donna's dream house , never dreamt that she charged all that money.

bubblerock · 28/07/2006 11:14

The milk on the table!!! - My Mum was horrified, she's so funny and has a thing about ketchup bottles etc.. on tables so that was the first thing she noticed - they moved it for the next shot though! lol

Salamander · 28/07/2006 11:16

You know her TwinSet??

cataloguequeen · 28/07/2006 11:16

Lmao.. twinset I thought the huge milk was odd too!! real freaky!!

Salamander · 28/07/2006 11:18

You know those makeover shows where people have done really awful things to their home having watched too many makeover shows...
they either don't have much money or they have too much money

but they lack taste...?

There we go!

SherlockLGJ · 28/07/2006 11:19

Bubblerock

Why are you selling ??

twinsetandpearls · 28/07/2006 11:25

Know is a strong word, we go to the same gym and chat.

bubblerock · 28/07/2006 11:34

LGJ - lots of reasons really, kids, Mother...hard to explain but the actual business is doing really well and we have a buyer (fingers crossed) We're looking to buy another business and Mum's buying a house and working in her admin job.

We'll stay in Blackpool though - we love the seaside

SherlockLGJ · 28/07/2006 11:36

Good Luck.

bubblerock · 28/07/2006 11:40

Cheers

Salamander · 28/07/2006 11:43

TwinSet - She goes to a gym!?

Good Luck Bubblerock!

tenalady · 28/07/2006 11:43

I remember seeing this web site last year when looking for somewhere to stay with ds. Even the photos on the website gave the impression it was more tacky than magical, childrens steptoe and son. Then I saw the price and thought blimey could get to Disney for that, who needs Blackpool!

Salamander · 28/07/2006 11:53

Bringing us back to the same question...

WHO STAYS THERE ???

tenalady · 28/07/2006 11:54

nobody twice!!!

Salamander · 28/07/2006 11:57

Direct from website - this is either fictional or the woman is crazy:

Mrs Sonia Gorman has e-mailed the following after visiting Sparkles three times in the last six months.

  1. Exterior - Don´t agree on changes, its querky as it is and makes you stand out!! If it was changed it would have to be maybe ´Sparkly´ but would have to be carefully planned not to look tacky. Also it is all added cost. You would look like just another b&b if you blended in, lets face it there is lots of them!

  2. Creche for other hotels, would spoil the personal touch and safety aspect for those staying at Sparkles unless a strict time slot adhered to. Worth thinking about if it fills in the day when you are quiet and brings in revenue, after all you are a natural with the kids.

  3. Agree to Adults rooms being grown up, the Dalmation Room is spot on, the mix of romantic boudoir and kids zone is perfect. The Teddy Bear and Woodland is designed for parents with very young children and is open plan - so are perfect as they are. The Tamba double bedroom could be made a bit more romantic I suppose. Barbie does need facelift and door linked off bedroom to turn it into a suite.

The Ruined Castle/Narnia would benefit from a TV/Video in the childrens bedroom (combi´s are cheap now and don´t even need an aerial so they can watch lots of videos and play till their hearts are content) as the children tend to hog the TV and we loved lounging in our luxury robes, sipping bubbly, the ordinary TV´s can stay in the adults bedroom where they are, Narnia suite would benefit from an ordinary TV with aerial, so more flexibility.

Video library and book library could be in the basesment activity room for children to choose and return when finished.

  1. Overnight tariff does scare people off and I would agree to abandoning it. Would be better putting together an add on birthday package - say cake, balloon and gift £20ish, presented at end of breakfast time with all the other children singing Happy Birthday. Rather than a pot luck. Base these on minimum of two nights if you prefer, just looks less off putting to the eye. What do other guests think??
expatinscotland · 28/07/2006 12:08

'Mrs Sparkles goes to my gym, '

Obviously only to use the jacuzzi.

twinsetandpearls · 28/07/2006 16:11

She has lost quite a bit of weight since filming, our gym runs a weight management course which she went to. Have to admit I have only seen her in the bar or jaccuzzi though!

emily05 · 28/07/2006 16:27

Has anybody else seen on the website about Panto hour (£10!!) looks scary

mummy115 · 28/07/2006 16:31

i once looked it up as it sounded interesting till i saw the price.does she not realise parents cant afford 200-400 a night.if it was for a midweek or full week maybe.. most kids have barbie or thomas tank or teletubby rooms at home and if you go on hol you aint gonna stay all day in the hotel room. for the price of a 4nt break there you could go to eurodisney or halfboard at butlins.she either gets realistic or shel go under.i couldnt believe how tacky it was till that inspecter got there.dear dear.

lionheart · 28/07/2006 16:41

I didn't mean I thought it was you Bubblerock, honestly.

expatinscotland · 28/07/2006 17:06

Mummy
I don't think she has kids of her own. That might make it hard for her to understand truly what the needs of a family are.

But yeah, £400! I nearly fell out my chair at that!

That was the cost of an entire week in a truly luxurious self-catering cottage in the Highlands - the cottage slept 6 people, too, and was unbelievably clean.

LIZS · 28/07/2006 17:17

Wasn't her "business" partner her daughter ? According to the website she was previously a teacher.

expatinscotland · 28/07/2006 17:28

Aw! Didn't realise she had a daughter. There's a scary thought . . .
