Extraordinary! just too bizzare!

OP posts:
Carmenere · 28/07/2006 10:32

Not just you, it was all just a bit too weird. You can just see her showing up in one of C5's late night 'documentaries' about swinging.
I'm well aware I am being very unkind btw before anyone points that out

bubblerock · 28/07/2006 10:34

It's grim isn't it? I don't know why, but It just had a look of one of the weird places where Men go to be babies!! And why would a couple want to go there without children (Loft room, couples only) - if it's a children's Hotel why would people without kids want to go???

Salamander · 28/07/2006 10:35

I think you're being appropriately critical

Iklboo · 28/07/2006 10:37

That woman was too scary for words - and her daughter???
No way would I spend a night there. You'd pull up outside and suddenly remember a pressing engagement in Bagdhad or something.
The website is too creepy scary for words too.

"As Mrs Sparkle doesn't accept credit cards at the moment"...... [scared witless emoticon]

Salamander · 28/07/2006 10:38

Very odd.

Have you read the comments of guests on there?

Obviously some people really like it.

it wasn't even positioned in a very salubrious part of town was it?

i'm sure to her it's a fun hobby - a fun VERY EXPENSIVE hobby, kind of like a mad old grandmother might do
But just like you do with those kinds of relatives, you'd secretly wash the tea cups before making the tea....

Salamander · 28/07/2006 10:39

So you have to carry £400 plus in cash then!
Maybe she'll accept a cheque with a £100 guarantee card?!

bin · 28/07/2006 10:40

This hotel was featured in one of the woman weekly type mags years ago. I looked it up and thought WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!! The woman must rich to be still operating and as for the people who have actually stayed there WHY!!!!!!!!!!!

alexsmum · 28/07/2006 10:44

didn't see the programme but last year a friend suggested we go to this hotel for a weekend.
didn't see the website then, have just looked at it now how incredibly weird!!!!!!!!

glad we didn't go!!

Salamander · 28/07/2006 10:46

We need to find a MNer who has stayed there or lives in Blackpool!!!

Salamander · 28/07/2006 10:47

lucky escape Alexsmum!!!!!!!

lionheart · 28/07/2006 10:51

Isn't there a MN who runs a B&B in Blackpool?

Carmenere · 28/07/2006 10:51

My other bugbear was her preparing breakfast, the kitchen looked a little grotty and she had an apron thrown over her sparkly dress and her hair just loosely tied up. I just felt that there needed to be a more professional attitude to hygene. It all looked a bit amaturish imo and not worth the cash by a long way.

Salamander · 28/07/2006 10:54

I would NEVER eat there!!!

bubblerock · 28/07/2006 10:55

Erm.. me!! lol

But, I am NOT Mrs Sparkles!!!

This is my MN ad for my very NORMAL Hotel!!

twinsetandpearls · 28/07/2006 10:58

Mrs Sparkles goes to my gym, I hvae sat in the jacuzzi with her discussing the programme of which she was very dismissive and felt very put out. She is however much nicer and more down to earth and in touch with reality in person than the programme suggested.

I think as the programme said at the end she is just playing at being a hotelier and does not have a business head at all. The Hotel is in quite a dodgy part of town and I cannot understand why anyone would pay all that money to stop there.

If you look on tripadvisor with on exception all her reviews are good which leave sme baffled unless someone close to home wrote them. ( Shit can I be sued for that!)

twinsetandpearls · 28/07/2006 10:59

bubblerock I thought of you last night when the other blackpool hotelliers had a look around, I wondere what you would make of it all.

LIZS · 28/07/2006 11:02

bubblerock , have you heard of this place at all ? Salamander I couldn't see pics of the actual rooms, where did you find them , and it seems "Narnia" has disappeared as not on the suite list.

Salamander · 28/07/2006 11:03

Bubblerock - have you seen this place close up?
Tried looking at your link you put but couldn't get it to load so did a Yahoo search and your hotel sounds really lovely! And not £400 a night!

bubblerock · 28/07/2006 11:04

God, TS&P - when those other Hoteliers showed up it was like a scene out of Thriller - they looked so boring and miserable, they could have found some more exciting Hoteliers surely??

I will probably be kicked out of the Hoteliers association now, good job I'm selling

Salamander · 28/07/2006 11:05

Click on the kite LIZS.
It takes you on a Tour of sorts - for want of a better word.

The Narnia room has been renamed the Mystery Suite or some such....

Salamander · 28/07/2006 11:08

bubblerock that's funny - I thought the same thing.
What an unprofessional rag tag bunch they look!
I imagined the same show in the US and people would be dressed smartly and being polite, but with constructive criticism.
They looked like a load of pensioners they'd dragged of the beach...

twinsetandpearls · 28/07/2006 11:08

bubblerock I thought they were a bit odd as well. I also thought it odd that they did not bring any children with them.

But what was even odder was that couple having a romantic break in the dalmation room comeplete with the three pint carton of milk on their brekfast table.

bubblerock · 28/07/2006 11:10

I've never seen the place - it's South Shore and we're Central. I'd heard of it before we moved here - probably the same womans mag!!

There's children's Hotel near us called Donnas Dream House that takes children with terminal illnesses for holidays, there was a programme a couple of nights ago about it. They are now developing a Hotel for teens with illnesses too.

Salamander · 28/07/2006 11:11

See now THAT sounds like a nice idea.

Rather than a sick fantasy

twinsetandpearls · 28/07/2006 11:11

The exterior paintwork looks a lot whiter on her website than it does in real life, definite evidence of photshop enhancement - alledgeledly. ( sorry tried 3 times to spell that and can't - hope I am safe from libel even if it is spelt wrong)
