Isn't There Anyone Who Watches Peaky Blinders?

It was a slow starter but I'm now totally gripped.

I'm surprised that there seem to be so few people watching it.

Surely it having Cillian Murphy and Paul Anderson in it should be enough?

Dh and I are both liking it very much.

valiumredhead · 08/10/2013 15:25

Why spend so much on production, costumes etc and get the definition of 'the clap' wrong?Confused Ffs, seriously thus sort of thing pissess me right off

valiumredhead · 08/10/2013 15:26

I'm just watching episode 4 now-still love it but finding blonde singing woman un convincing.

ReginaldBlinker · 08/10/2013 15:30

Agreed. Wondering why Cillian Murphy can't see through her and love me instead

valiumredhead · 08/10/2013 15:40

I've never seen him in anything else, what else has he been in?

ReginaldBlinker · 08/10/2013 15:49

Think he's been in a load of things, but the only one I can think of off the top of my head: He was the scary scarecrow villain in the Batman movie with Heath Ledger.

valiumredhead · 08/10/2013 15:52

Oh I didn't see that. He's an odd mix of baby face and menace, isn't he?

ReginaldBlinker · 08/10/2013 16:48

He is, yeah! Found him very menacing in Batman, but just think he's so sexy in Peaky Blinders (and I don't use that word often!!)

Rollergirl1 · 09/10/2013 13:59

He is most well known for Inception and Danny Boyle's film 28 Days Later (in which he does a full frontal scene Wink.

He is exceptionally beautiful. I've also taken rather a shine to the actor who plays Freddie.

tobiasfunke · 09/10/2013 14:14

Ooh I've just seen this thread and I really enjoy P Blinders although it is rather slow- they could do with fitting more in and less of Cillian Murphy walking down the street in slow motion. The accents are atrocious they seem to come via Liverpool. There isn't enough characterisation I don't think and the music pisses me off. It's all trying to be a bit too modern and clever and not just doing a good period story well. But still I'm enjoying it. Sam Neill is quite scary as the pyschopathic Ulsterman.

TigOldBitties · 09/10/2013 14:38

I had forgotten I started this thread Shock

As I've said I'm really enjoying it, I finally caught up on last weeks episode and did like it. I liked how the Tommy and Grace story moved on a bit, although the plot has definitely slowed again.

I'm a big fan of the music but each to their own I guess.

Totally agree less of Cillian ambling down the street.

The thing that has been bothering me about it most recently is Helen McCrory, absolutely fabulous actress but my god she's emaciated!!! I'm skinny myself so am not part of the 'real women' brigade but last week I just couldn't stop staring at how tiny she was.

I suppose there are some elements that are a bit off and I don't think that its really being done as a period drama, but I like it. It adds something different to the endless detective/gang type shows that seem to crop up every year.

Did anyone watch tonight? It's deffo picking up pace. Not really sure what the wayword Dad bit leant to the story other than making Arthur look even more of an imbecile. Even so I think next week is a gonna be an absolte blinder!

I actually don't want it to end. I know the accents are all over the place and it's stylised to the teeth but I've actually really enjoyed watching it.

tobiasfunke · 13/10/2013 23:14

I've managed to catch up tonight. I thought this weeks ep was great and wish they'd had that pace from the beginning - they could've fitted a whole load more in. I think with the slow pace they needed to do the American thing of having 12 episodes in a series instead of just 6. Just as we get into it, it's over. Helen McCrory does seem extremely thin. DH wondered was she ill?
I hope there is a second series. I felt sorry for Tommy at the end when it was all sunny for them when things are bound to go tits up next week.

LackaDAISYcal · 13/10/2013 23:21

My Brummie friend has been raving about it; caught some of this weeks and thought it was really good; will see if I can catch up. It's a bit tucked away on the schedules is it not? I don't even recall seeing a preview for it.

VenusStarr · 16/10/2013 21:31

I am loving it :) I agree the first episode wasn't the best but I'm really glad I stuck with it. I'm gripped and a bit sad that its the final episode this week. I wonder if it will come back? Does anyone know?

Cillian Murphy is hot. And he is getting hotter each week. It helps that he is in almost every scene :) really enjoyed last weeks episode.

valiumredhead · 16/10/2013 21:40

Last one tomorrowSad

There's sure to be a second series.

dimsum123 · 17/10/2013 06:41

I love it. I love the style and the music. But most of all I love Thomas Shelby! Spend most of each episode trying to hide my drooling from DH!

Tiredemma · 17/10/2013 09:59

Ive managed to resist watching so far because I want to watch them all in one go.

Cant wait.

VenusStarr · 17/10/2013 22:13

Good final episode :) sad that its ended though. I hope there is a second series.

Oblomov · 17/10/2013 22:17

Watching last one now. Have enjoyed it.

Afrodizzywonders · 17/10/2013 22:26

Brilliant series, beautifully shot, well acted, great sound track.......roll on series 2!

redmayneslips · 17/10/2013 22:48

Oh I am so sad that it's over, I LOVED it! Totally gripping and Cillian Murphy is vvvvvvvveeeeeeerrrrrrryyyyyyyy easy on the eye isn't he? My old crush Eddie Redmayne may have a rival Grin

I hope series 2 is released soon, I am going to miss it on Thursday nights, was a great sort of precursor of the weekend. I will miss oogling at cillian murphy. Even dh mentioned several times how handsome he is!

I hope what we think happened at the end did not happen

valiumredhead · 17/10/2013 23:50

I thought that was so unbelievably predictableSad
I was SO disappointed. And God almighty blonde barmaid ought to be banned from ever acting again, that scene in the pub when she pulls the gun was laughable imo.

tobiasfunke · 18/10/2013 09:13

I was a bit underwhelmed as well. I thought the pub scene was rubbish. I think Helen McCrory was meant to be menacing and could've been really scary but it was just totally bland. I also had an issue with the scene where they put in the stuff about her children. If that had been put in a few episodes ago and her character fleshed out a bit it might have made more sense.
I am presuming blonde bint isn't dead or Sam Neil would've just shot her in plain sight and it would've been more dramatic. Or is he dead.Ora railway porter. Or who cares.
I'm still enjoying it but it needs taken in hand and given a bit more depth.
I am so over the slowmo walking scenes. Mind you it was a crowd scene lastnight not just Cillian on his lonesome.

Rollergirl1 · 18/10/2013 15:58

Another one here underwhelmed. I thought it was going to totally kick off but it was quite dull. Can someone please explain the whole Grace being responsible for tipping off Billy Kimber? Why would she when she loves Tommy? Did we actually see this as I felt like i'd missed an episode last night when it all happened. Was it literally just the scene with Grace and Tommy where she says she's done a terrible thing? And why would she do that anyway, seeing as Billy tried to rape her in an earlier episode. I totally didn't understand that at all. Or was it that she had told Sam Neil's character (sorry don't remember his name)?

And how come Freddie is now back with the peaky blinders when he was a sworn enemy up until this episode?
