Very excited!

Paul Hollywood does piss me off tbh, but I love seeing all the cakes & stuff. Will probably have to make something to eat whilst watching it though...

I agree Wintera and I have had to pull myself up on that score occasionally. One of my favourite sayings is Madeleine Allbright's "There's a special place in Hell for women who don't help other women" and although I am an atheist, I do try to keep to the spirit behind it, especially at work.

This sucks.
I know I was making fun of her writing style as well but I really thought her blog was funny and quite sweet and just so young. It's only half way through the series, I hope people who were/are nasty to her just stop now.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 21/09/2013 19:28

There was no call to laugh at it at all. It was mean. And the recipes were good. My girls made the plum and cobnut round today and it's amazing.

SelectAUserName · 21/09/2013 20:35

Speaking of blogs, Monkseal has added this week's entry Grin

SelectAUserName · 21/09/2013 20:49

And Ruby herself has commented on it, with a delightful degree (no pun intended) of self-awareness.

Bukowsi1920 · 21/09/2013 21:00

Russians Thank you so much for your kind words to and about Ruby. Wish she was at home so I could give her a hug. I am incredibly proud of her!

RussiansOnTheSpree · 21/09/2013 22:30

Bukowsi You should be proud of her. She seems to be a lovely young person in every way. And we (my girls and I) really enjoyed her blog. I hope she reinstates it soon.

mignonette · 21/09/2013 23:17

How many people know who has won? Because I have been told by somebody w/ a connection to the show who the winner is. And that has totally fouled it up for me Angry . And no, I will not be passing the info on, not even to my DD.

Sparklysilversequins · 22/09/2013 00:47

I'm only on "pies and tarts" but is anyone else finding Frances really tiring. I find her arty creations are Just Too Much and would love to see some baking that is JUST baking and not something else.

ppeatfruit · 22/09/2013 07:06

TO be fair to Frances sparklysilver She WAS overdoing the bakes but she took on board Mary's comments and then they were ALL asked to do bleedin' towers of things!! Someone else upthread said how ridiculous they were and I agree!

mignon OMG I hope it was our Kim if not i'm going to be Shock and annoyed. Unless she made a major cock up near the end.

wintera · 22/09/2013 07:57

Mignonette - can't believe someone has told you who won! I'm guessing they would be in trouble for that with the beeb though wouldn't they?

ppeatfruit · 22/09/2013 09:30

Yes wintera because the Beeb had have highly reputable morals Grin and i speak as someone who admires the Beeb (but not as much as i used to) even though my family work for the other sides!!

wintera · 22/09/2013 09:40

Fair point! Lol

I just meant I would have thought they would have to sign something if they work on a show like that. To say they won't release any details etc. I don't know to be honest, no idea how it works truth be told!

mignonette · 22/09/2013 09:59

They would get into trouble. I'm a bit upset about it to be honest. You'll get no hints from me I promise.

However when you think about all the contestants, their families and friends, it's surprising that the results can be kept secret at all. That's a lot of people.

ModernToss · 22/09/2013 10:36

secretscwirrels, you don't feel like posting your almond macaroon recipe do you? (Sorry for derailment.) My grandmother used to make them and I adored them; however, when I've tried to make them I have failed to get that delicious chewiness in the middle.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/09/2013 12:07

Are almond macaroons the ones with a whole almond on the top? My mum used to make those - you bake them on rice paper, and I loved the rice paper almost as much as the macaroons. Plus they look much, much easier to bake than macarons - if bakers on GBBO can fail at macarons, I don't have a prayer (though I do have a recipe book of just macarons, and I might have a go, one day). If they work, I will post a picture. If not, I will never mention them again! Grin

I liked Ruby's comment on Monkseal's blog, and now I feel a bit Blush at having let the way the show was edited colour my view of her.

Mignonette - I know how you feel - I once found out the result of another competitive TV show America's Next Top Model Blush because I went onto the american website by mistake, and it spoiled the whole series for me. But maybe your friend is wrong? [hopeful]

Gracelo · 23/09/2013 08:43

My mum makes a version of almond macaroons which isn't on rice paper but on a thin layer of flaky pastry a bit like the Quark puff pastry Brendan made last year. They are utterly delicious.

ppeatfruit · 23/09/2013 09:32

You know it's weird about macaroons.I'd love to make them but the recipes are strange; St. Delia says 'don't beat the whites' and others say DO so I've never bothered. (also you have to use them when you've made something with the yolks and often it's not the right time IYSWIM.)

Gracelo · 24/09/2013 09:03

My mother's recipe requires to beat the egg white but they are a little different to how I imagine the macaroons with the filling to be. I've never actually had one of those. She usually makes them when she has egg whites left over from something else or before Christmas when she bakes about 20 different types of Christmas biscuits (it's a German thing) and there are always a few varieties which require yolks only.

ppeatfruit · 24/09/2013 09:27

Thanks Gracelo is your mother's recipe a german one then so different again? I like the ones with rice paper because I'm a wheat free baker generally have you got her recipe?

The filled ones are lovely IF they don't overdo the sugar,I've had some bio ones here which were gorgeous.

Gracelo · 24/09/2013 09:45

I have her recipe at home, I look it up tonight. She uses the same recipe for Nussmakronen with a mix of hazelnuts and walnuts which have an amazing taste. I always pick them out and hide them when her Christmas parcel arrives rather than share them Blush.

ppeatfruit · 24/09/2013 10:38

Lucky you getting a parcel from her Grin Does she also make a mean Stollen? I LOVE Stollen but I make one without the fruit (no one likes the traditional fruit cakes in my family) I put in walnuts and lots of spices and homemade marzipan YUM!

mignonette · 24/09/2013 10:48

SdT I wish there was a chance of the person being wrong but sadly no Sad.

I make all kinds of flavours of the French style Macarons. I love them but don't make them too sweet or sickly.

Gracelo · 24/09/2013 11:04

I make a pretty mean Stollen myself ppeatfruit I'm good with yeast. My brother doesn't like raisins or currants so there was always a Mandelstollen as well, with just almonds. I really like that one too.
I make Vanillehoernchen (kipferl in other parts of D and in Austria) every Christmas and you wouldn't believe how quickly they disappear when I bring some in to work.
