I was born in the 70s. No facebook etc, but I used to lie awake till early hours listening to Radio Luxembourg on my personal stereo and daydreaming...

Me too! Loved radio Luxembourg, if not it was Janice Long I think on radio 1.

I would also separate the twins for the moment, they are a lively pair aren't they?

Awwww bless Josh, fast asleep Smile

girliefriend · 19/03/2013 20:47

twins mum looks knackered!

FadBook · 19/03/2013 20:47

Perhaps they might do CC Sasha. I agree the two get confused.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 19/03/2013 20:47

Channel 4 love big brain models. They whack them out at every opportunity - this one isn't as good as the drug trial one though. That brain flashed!

girliefriend · 19/03/2013 20:48

right cuppa tea time...

Shybairns · 19/03/2013 20:48

lol Jazz

Airwalk79 · 19/03/2013 20:49

Bet the cat would find you less friendly with a cup of water next to the bed... Fortunately our dog understands bugger off!

Katla · 19/03/2013 20:49

What's the chances of the baby just dropping off like that first time? Hmm, would have been more interesting if it had screamed a bit like mine

The twins look a total nightmare. I'd put them in sleeping bags - that'd slow the little buggers darlings down Grin

OhMyNoReally · 19/03/2013 20:50

One word stair gate. Child can't escape, boundaries set. Job done.

toldmywrath · 19/03/2013 20:50

Scurry you have made my day! I'm crying with laughter Grin

girliefriend · 19/03/2013 20:51

I have always loved my sleep, I can remember when my mum organised to take me and my brothers to a fairly late showing of Hook at the cinema and I was mortified (think I was about 14yo!!) as it would mean not getting to bed at 9pm.

Luckily my dd seems to take after me Grin

I ruined my eyesight as a child, reading Enid Blyton's under the covers with a torch when my mum thought I was peacefully asleep.

Jazz Grin re brain model

PartyFops · 19/03/2013 20:52

It sounds as though these parents have been working with the "sleep experts" Hmm for some time before this programme, the doctor working with Josh and his mum said that they have been working at moving further and further from him.

toldmywrath · 19/03/2013 20:53

Airwalk I can't keep a cup of water next to the bed because she drinks it or knocks it over (I have water in a bottle for me )

Katla · 19/03/2013 20:54

'Do it through the night' wow, I bet that cheered them up. They look like they need a stiff drink.

Sparklingbrook · 19/03/2013 20:56

Well i am nearly asleep watching it....

mummybare · 19/03/2013 20:57

I used something similar when DD was about 3.5/4 months old, which is why I asked, but I took it very very slowly and she didn't cry much (my retreat really was ludicrously gradual Grin). I wouldn't have tried it much earlier and I wouldn't have done CC at that age, but I might have thought about it at the age she is now (10mo) if she still wasn't sleeping well. She still woke in the night for a feed for a further 3-4 months, by the way - I wasn't trying to night wean, just to make her a bit happier to sleep in her cot by herself.

I guess it's a judgement call and something every parent has to make their own mind up about and will also depend on the baby's personality. I only tried things that I thought DD was ready for and could cope with (I can't stand the sound of her crying, so that was a determining factor!), but for me, that makes it hard to give a certain age where it's okay or not okay to use various techniques.

(Just realised I've written something of an essay - oops! Blush)

Airwalk79 · 19/03/2013 20:58

Squirty bottle? Maybe everyone in this house has worked out I'm not a nice mummy after bedtime! Unless the house is on fire or your heads hanging off it can wait till the morning!

twitchycurtains · 19/03/2013 20:58

omg, this is going to be on for the next 5 weeks!, good lord channel 4 must have some left over budget that needs to be spent quick fast.

Smicha · 19/03/2013 20:59

I agree with partyfops, there's no way they cracked this in one hour! I think if that's the case they should have explained how they did it as that would be just as helpful. Very misleading! But I'm still Grin for Josh's Mum!

Katla · 19/03/2013 21:00

"Incredible". Um, nothing really groundbreaking though. Not actually very much information given at all?

The twins were the only ones that gave them a programme.

It reminded me of Bill Oddie's 'Naturewatch' where they have a grey fuzzy image of something and have to make a meal of whatever it is and stretch out the mouse (or whatever it is) scuffling about as if it is groundbreaking exciting tv. Which it's not really.

FadBook · 19/03/2013 21:02

I totally get what you mean mummybare. Certainly no judgement from me - I don't like hearing babies cry either. You try anything when sleep deprived and I think that is unique to your own family circumstances. For me, we only have dd and I could nap during the day so sorting out her sleep wasn't priority until it did start to affect my DP at work, and this was when DD was around 12 months. We decided as a couple that nightweaning would be the first method to use to see if that worked and it did improve things drastically.

Some people may have chose that choice way before we had, but for me, it didn't matter that she fed during the night.

Grin
scurryfunge · 19/03/2013 21:03

I used to have a glass of water on my bedside table until I found the cat dipping his paw into it. He is keen on being fed at 5 am when I am getting up for an early shift but doesn't get the fact I want a lie in on other days.
DS disrupts my sleep nowadays when he returns from the pub and makes late night toasties!

toldmywrath · 19/03/2013 21:05

Thanks for the suggestion airwalk, but I haven't got the heart to squirt water over her. Toldcat thinks I'm her catmum & follows me around like a dog & sits on my shoulders when I've just showered.
Luckily my 2other cats ignore me unless it's food time. Grin

gallicgirl · 19/03/2013 21:06

Well I only caught the last ten minutes as I've spent the last hour getting 2 yo DD into her pyjamas, teeth cleaned, drink of milk, story and bed. Almost every single minute was a fight and struggle.

Perhaps one of you experts would like to come and do bedtime so I can get a cup of tea when I come home from work.
