I have got the theme tune ringing around my head.

I love it. It is far more exciting than the english version imo. The challenges are a lot better.

It's a bit annoying in that in that exasperating 'let's recap what you have just seen in case you have forgotten' sense but it's good fun.

The judges are equally grouchy and matey (I do like a grumpy Australian man).

I don't know what they are making Lisbeth Salander do in the credits. He just looks mildly insane with some spooky smoke coming out of pots, like when you steal chemicals from a cupboard in Y8 chemistry and throw them in a beaker.

The last series had a different, but also stupid theme tune, I had no idea it was Katy Perry.
We like the NZ one best, it's hilarious, DD's face was a picture when I made her listen to it. We sing along loudly and badly

I do love UK mastercehef but it's not half as fun as the aus one.

Their challenges seem to consist of making 3 courses for a hunt ball in the middle of a forest and involve Greg wearing a flat cap.

I loved the Goldmine one, I used to live in a mining town in Oz, and worked in a few others so it brought back memories.
DD's Dad was an electrician on the minesites.

The last series of the NZ one had this montage of kitchen equipment at the beginning, with a fridge with drawers that made a trilling noise when it opened. Me and dd (sad, losers) used to make the trilling noise when the fridge opened and it kept us strangely entertained.

This is the first NZ one I've seen, I've only had Sky for a year so saw the latest Aus, and series one and now three repeated.

Is there another series with Katy Perry then?, because the last one had something about a shooting star

I made a couple of dishes from the last one, and am planning Billy's pork belly from this one, and a Massaman curry but I'll used Rick Stein for that.

I love how they are so comfortable with ingredients and cuisine/dishes that are so far from what we are used to in the UK.

And there's no question that the contestants' ingredient knowledge and skills far surpasses our uk contestants. The show also teaches the contestants rather than continually tests them.

Yes, is so much better as it is not relentless pressure, tests and elimination, but interspersed with masterclasses. I imagine it must be great to take part in.

They are very good with ingredients completely unknown to us - they cooked with marron (a type of crayfish or lobster thing) the other day - never heard of it.

I have, I once stayed in a Caravan Park called Mr Marron's, and the sign was a big smiling Marron.
It was in Collie, a very weird coalmining town in WA

I'd never heard of Kewpie Mayo until the last series though, and had to buy it. I've since bought more, been sent a bottle and sent a bottle to someone else.
I love it.

The uk version is just so dull once you've seen the Oz version. The nearest they get to a challenge is working a catering van to feed the crew of some godawful daytime bbc program. It's alway rainy and miserable and involves tinned food. Either that or the pomp and circumstance formal dinners that I find really cringy.

I totally agree chutes. I have watched Masterchef Aus anf professionals and the normal UK one is going to be so dull in comparison. I really hope that they have pulled their finger out re the challenges.

They should have it that the contestants live in a house as well. They all go back to their normal lives between the competitions in the UK one, didn't someone pull out last year because of the pressure and relentlessness of it?

I also hate the pompousness of some of the challenges. They cooked last year for some dessicated Duchess didn't they. Who cares what she thinks?

at Mr Marron. Is WA a bit odd then? The contestant from there on masterchef speaks of it as if she is from the back of beyond. Is there a west/east divide in Australia?

It's very isolated, and if you don't live in Perth even moreso, and then still a bit back of beyond.
My brother lives there, but his experience is different as he lives in Subiaco, a trendy suburb. I stayed in backpackers but also in the middle of two trendy suburbs. (Northbridge and Leederville for anyone who knows Perth)

Then I moved to Kalgoorlie, which is a brilliantly hilarious goldmining town, like hicksville with money.

We (DD's Dad and I), had planned to go back, which I had agreed to, but I said trendy suburb of Perth, Perth for it's close proximity to SE Asia, or Sydney, as it's where everything in Oz is.

He left when DD was six weeks old so it never happened.
