Although, this guy with the batman kid seems nice, any idea why he is in there. Hopefully he pulls his life around and goes straight.

Awful watching that lovely little boy getting frisked before seeing his dad Hmm

Sidge · 18/02/2013 21:47

At least this lad (?Josh) seems quite switched on and determined to learn from his incarceration.

Imagine watching your child being searched, crikey.

MakeItUpAsYouGoAlong · 18/02/2013 21:48

I'm not sure i could do that to my child.

Sidge · 18/02/2013 21:48

PartyFops · 18/02/2013 21:50

Don't forget that this programme was filmed over a 2-3 month period to give 2x50 minute programmes.
Yes prisons are very violent places potentially and most have this rage simmering just under the surface, especially places like Aylesbury that are housing long term young offenders, but the sheer professionalism of the staff keep things in check for the majority of the time.
Where else could you expect to see a hostage situation brought to resolution in under 3 hrs with no physical (although I expect unfortunately some considerable emotional problems for the victim) injuries as part of end scenario.
Big up to all prison staff they are unsung heroes. :)
P.s. a number of my friends were in the programme tonight!!

My dh is a wing manager. Now I understand why he's so stressed when he gets in. He's just done 14hr shift with muppets like those.

The staff were just brilliant I thought . So reasonable .

They spent 5 months filming at the Aylesbury prison. Just for 2 hours broadcasting. picking the exciting bit I suppose. It would have got nearer the truth with 5 days Secret Filming.

Last night's programme was heartbreaking. The level of rage in these young men is devastating and how the staff manage all that simmering fury heaven knows. What was really telling to me was that not one expressed regret or sorrow for what had brought them there (at least if they did it wasn't aired). One said that he didn't think that what he did was "naughty" (nicking cars he said), "naughty" was stabbing someone......the mind boggles. Is there any chance of getting them back into society with that sort of attitude? The opportunities for them are so limited once they have been in prison it doesn't seem like there's anywhere for them to go, and the prisons don't appear to be able to do anything other than containment. Working in the kitchen and laundry whilst productive can't really help them much once released - it would have been useful to know what other rehab/education opportunities were offered and whether they had successes.

Why would anyone want to work in that place for 15 grand a year? very odd

frostyfingers · 26/02/2013 13:36

Perhaps they felt they could contribute something to the lives of the prisoners....not everyone is motivated by money.
