Horsemad · 30/01/2013 09:58

Has anyone Googled them? They could be back home now!

MrsReiver · 30/01/2013 09:59

Me too Fatima

My 8 year old only gets hair gel in his hair on special occasions, he does wear a scent (I refuse to call it aftershave as he doesn't shave) everyday though Blush

Wilts · 30/01/2013 10:11

I go back to work after maternity leave in a weeks time, I am gutted to have only just discovered this show . I think I am going to have to record it Grin

Vagndidit · 30/01/2013 10:25

Very "comprehensive" revisit, but yeah they've just recreated their old lives with more sun. Why that requires a 10000 mile relocation is beyond meHmm (and this is coming from someone who is 4000 miles from home)
She's deluded if she thinks they're settled after 3 months though. That's still very much a honeymoon phase. The worst is yet to come...

Sparklingbrook · 30/01/2013 10:31

Vagndidit wise words. It did seem a bit pointless.

ScrambledSmegs · 30/01/2013 11:34

Just watched todays - and found you all. Can only watch Mon-Weds sadly.

Agree it was all a bit pointless. 2 thoughts -

Dislike the dad more than the mum this time. He clearly didn't give a shit about leaving his stepdaughter.

WTF is with the dad's hair?! Why is his quiff grey but not the rest?

Salbertina · 30/01/2013 15:13

Yep well mine are on the laptop in the sunshine .. And rarely in yhe pool Blush
Sounds spoilt i know..but novelty really does wear off

Salbertina · 30/01/2013 16:08

Oh just catching up now. I warmed to them actually. Quite low key but seem decent enough. And they do seem to benefit from lifestyle more outdoorsy

Katz · 30/01/2013 16:46

watched on iplayer - feel for Kirsty, did they say what she was studying at university?

Horsemad · 30/01/2013 17:39

Fashion design I think.

DizzyHoneyBee · 30/01/2013 20:32

A real teacher or a teaching assistant - ow lol - if she's a teacher she can go but not as a TA, they don't have them in Oz as far as I know.

Lovely family...just watching it now.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 30/01/2013 21:27

Dizzy - I missed where she said she was a teacher, and the Australian teacher seemed to indicate that she would have to work in a non-qualified role to start with, hence me asking if she was a teaching assistant and being confused. I didn't know they made teachers re-qualify or take tests once there.

sailorsgal · 31/01/2013 08:52

Anne thats right they did say that she would have to take on an unqualified role first.

Salbertina · 31/01/2013 08:58

Speaking as an expat, would love to have seen much more of the revisited( rather than rehashed cheap telly) bits yesterday. Them 1 month6 months, 1 yr on. Progress/regrets etc

SconeInSixtySeconds · 31/01/2013 09:07

In most of Australia's states UK teachers would be told to requalify - basically a years retraining. There are very few classroom assistants (generally only in Prep which is the equivalent of reception in the UK) and parents are expected to help out in schools a lot more (there was a rota at dc's school, each parent was expected to help the equivalent of roughly once a week, although it could be done in a block, ie a couple of whole mornings would probably be ok for the term).

It isn't necessarily the case all over Oz of course, but something I was wholly surprised by is the constant fundraising/demands for money.

Each child is expected to return to school in January (start of Aussie school year) with a 'book pack' that contains all their stationery needs for the year. This is a specific list, includes copy paper and tissues, folders, text books, specific types of pencils etc. each list was an average of $190 (about 110 pounds) and did not include trips or extras. Plus trips not paid for won't allow your child to be included (so some children did miss out which felt horrible).

Anyway, enough blathering and on to today!

SconeInSixtySeconds · 31/01/2013 09:10

Me too Salbertina. I think the savage homesickness which kicks in about 8 months in would make for a very different programme (although still not realistic of course).

A weeks holiday is in no way what it is like to move somewhere for a normal life (whether you are there for 2 years or forever).

Sparklingbrook · 31/01/2013 09:15

Morning. Smile
