I have never seen his films so I have no opinion but why do I always feel really uncomfortable when I see him interviewed?

Any ideas?

Or maybe I'd find his films annoying anyway.

Ariel21 · 11/01/2013 23:48

I LOVE Tarantino. As in, I love his films. It's not just about style - although I love his exploration of genre, structure and symbolism. It's also about amazing stories, wicked humour and great writing.

HOWEVER I haven't seen many interviews with him - sometimes it's best to separate artists from their work as it can influence my opinions of the films. So he may well be a massive turd.

PandaNot · 12/01/2013 00:07

His films are amazing, he's a very creative man. Does his own thing. I think he's unsettling to watch because he's a bit unpredictable and has a hard to read face so you're never quite sure whether he means something or if he's joking.

MurderOfGoths · 12/01/2013 00:11

Because he's a twat and appears to constantly high.

piprabbit · 12/01/2013 00:14

There is a mismatch between his looks and his voice. I find it slightly disconcerting.

It just would be great to see him make a film without relying on the 'cool' factor of swearing and violence. I love horror films, I enjoy a good war film and westerns are one of my fav genres. So I don't have a problem with violence in context - it can be extremely powerful. But the way he rolls around in it like a hippo in mud, then criticises 'old' directors for making boring films - irritates the hell out of me.

Give me a Wim Wenders film, or even an interesting Clint Eastwood film, over Tarantino any day. Danny Boyle doesn't do the same genre twice and is constantly inventive, not making the same film over and over again.

No I don't think the Kill Bill films are genius. I think they are rather vile and to be frank, boring in their own way.

gazzalw · 12/01/2013 08:44

There's something very disconcerting about him - think he's rather mad...and if he was anywhere other than Hollywood he would probably be regarded as most odd....

I've only ever seen Pulp Fiction the once (and none of his others) and it's a distant haze...Certainly didn't do it for me. I just don't like that type of quirky but violent film - a bit like David Lynch films but at least his are 'arty'

SlatternismyMiddlename · 12/01/2013 10:12

I liked Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs. The song "stuck in the middle with you" has a whole new meaning attached to it, as does the phrase "bring out the gimp"! I did not like the Kill Bill films, although Uma Thurman is fab.

This is probably going to offend (although it shouldn't) but I thought maybe he was on the autistic spectrum as I've seen interviews before and he doesn't seem to react at all to social stimuli.

GlaikitFizzog · 12/01/2013 10:23

I think that too. Very obsessive about things.

He seems to be operating just on the edges of societal norms; almost as if somebody has given him a book on how to converse with other people and he's grasped the theory with none of the natural instincts.

I know NOTHING about him as a person but get the sense that if he allowed it he'd be in turn utterly obsessive and terrifyingly unpredictable. This is all just thinking out loud from the vague impressions I have of him from a couple of interviews.

He also seems bright in a v specific way. I don't really know his films but he seems like the sort of person whose life has easily contracted down to a brilliance in one very specific area.

ShowOfHands · 12/01/2013 10:27

Grin @ autism = genius.

I have 3 autistic nieces. My db says he'd be rich if that were true.

MurderOfGoths · 12/01/2013 10:39

"I thought maybe he was on the autistic spectrum as I've seen interviews before and he doesn't seem to react at all to social stimuli."

Or possibly he's out of his skull on drugs.

I love reservoir and pulp fiction. I have liked some of his others but not loved them like I did his first two. Pulp fiction is the only film I've seen were I came out of the cinema and wanted to go straight back in again.

wintera · 12/01/2013 12:10

I've just watched that channel four clip hadn't seen it before. Seemed kind of refreshing to me that he got so annoyed and didn't want to play the game. It is kind of a boring question to ask him, and he's right he's answered it too many times. Certain people get the same questions over and over in interviews it must get fucking tiresome. Like when they always ask Kate Winslet about her weight. And you never see an interview with Jennifer Anniston were they don't bring up Brad and Ang etc. Must get boring!

mrsjay · 12/01/2013 17:50

he reminds me of an oversized awkward boy who had no friends at school watched it earlier i recorded it, I like his filmsthe kill bills is one of my favorite films neve rhad the notion to kill anybody with a samurai sword though Grin he is quite arrogant and awkward , on the other hand James Mcavoy was lovely

mrsjay · 12/01/2013 17:52

He reminds me of woody allen not in looks obviously but in personality neurotic and awkward
